    My uneducated predictions.

    Greenback vs Oliver Springs

    Rockwood vs Coalfield

    South Pit vs Sale Creek

    Whitwell vs Gordonsville

    Moore County vs West Carroll

    Colinwood vs Mckenzie

    Dresden vs Lake County

    Union City vs Mase

West Carroll vs Eagleville and Mcewen vs Colinwood  are toss ups for me. Could go either way.

Curious as to why you think Sale Creek will come to Celina and beat the Bulldogs. Are they much improved from years past?

  2. Best high school game I have ever watched. Hate it for our Bulldogs that we came up one play short, but they gave everything they had last night and have nothing to be ashamed of. Hats off to Gordonsville and congrats on the win. Would love to see this game again in 3 weeks!

It's crazy to me that one of the most pivotal plays on the night was #53 catching that pass illegally for Gordonsville that indirectly let to a touchdown. If he doesn't touch that ball, it's intentional grounding and a loss of down (plus more yardage) instead of illegal touching and still first down, meaning that 90 yard touchdown pass on third down doesn't happen.

If that was the case, then the Dogs wouldn’t be 6-3 and would’ve have gotten tan off the field last week against TC. You still may have a good ball club, but this team isn’t anywhere near as good as last years, I haven’t even seen them play yet and I can guarantee you that

Definitely not fair to compare last year's team and this year's team. Last year's team was the best in a generation and the most successful in program history. However, let's not act like Gordonsville didn't lose a very good senior class from last year as well. Tonight's game will come down to which team wins the battle in the trenches and who can avoid making costly mistakes.

  4. How’s everyone feeling after the halfway point? Good start on the season for Red Boiling Springs and Whitwell. The Pirates are still the Pirates. Slow starts for the defending 1A runner ups in Celina, but they have started coming on strong the last couple of weeks. Gordy still trying to find their way, but still expect them to have a huge say in how the road to the semifinals shapes up. It’s been a while since things were this wide open between these regions in my opinion.

  5. Portland throws six interceptions to fall in Celina tonight 48-35, including three that were returned for touchdowns (and another called back). All six interceptions were made by brothers Nate (4 INTs, 1TD) and Nolan Adams (2 INTs, 2TDs). Statement win for the Dawgs!

  6. Curious to see how this one turns out. Monterey looked very average last week against Clay County, with very little passing attack. However, they pulled out a big road win at Westmoreland this week, which really surprised me. To me, this game has similar feels for Gordonsville as it did for Clay County a couple weeks ago. This is a game Gordonsville should win in my opinion. If they can't, it's going to be uphill battle the rest of the season.

There was a year in the mid 2010’s that Coalfield made the ship. Can’t remember if they beat South Pitt along the way or not. That was a good Coalfield team.

That was 2014. South Pitt was not very good that year, as they barely squeaked out a round 1 win against a 4-6 Clay County team before bowing out in Round 2 at Copper Basin. Ironically, that same Clay County team beat Monterey 19-18 in Monterey's third game of the year, and then Monterey went on to destroy everyone until the semifinals, when Coalfield made the first of two trips to TTU and knocked them off. I remember Monterey was likely the only team in TSSAA history that could have literally played every postseason game at home, since they were in the process of getting a new school and field, and played all their home games at TTU that year.

  8. I'm against Nashville, unless they are going to guarantee hotel rates for teams at a discounted rate, as paying weekend rates for a football team can really start to add for a lot of programs. For most teams that are not driving east on I-24 or north on I-65, Clarksville really isn't much farther than Murfreesboro. Definitely wouldn't be opposed to Clarksville. T

Memphis will never host state championships. I think it needs to be back in Nashville/ Vanderbilt.

I would say there's a good chance it goes back to Nashville once the new stadium for the Titans is built. As for now, it's likely staying in Chattanooga, unless Cookeville decides to up their bid for the next cycle. I honestly liked the setup in Chattanooga pretty well, as the parking was fairly close and the facilities are nice. The only thing about Cookeville I prefer is the drive (1 hour for me vs 2.5 hours to Chattanooga).

  10. Congrats to the Rebels! Definitely a special feeling when you finally get the championship that has eluded you in the past. Marquez Taylor is a very talented running back and Jackson Cassidy made some big time throws. Hope they both have great careers at the next level. As for my Dawgs, still proud of this team. The best season in school history and they could have easily laid down when McKenzie jumped out 14-0 in the first six minutes. If you take away that awful start, the game was nearly even the rest of the away. Strength of schedule definitely hurt us in this game, as McKenzie clearly looked to be the more battled tested team. However, as I have said before, it is nearly impossible to fill 7 non-region games and definitely makes it an uphill battle to be properly tested for a game like this. Lastly, I don't like to criticize the officials, but man they blew a couple of egregious calls in my opinion (one going each way). You certainly hate to see that in a game like this, but it certainly made no difference in the result of the game.

I'm talking about real offers. I know he claims an offer from UT, but they would not accept a commitment from him. Does he have a legit offer from Ken Tuck?

It is sad how a lot of recruiting works in football. Not speaking on this case in particular, but there definitely should not be a case where a school "offers" a kid and the kid cannot commit based on that. That's about as bad as the airlines overselling the seats. If you can't take a certain kid at the moment, just tell the kid his interest is appreciated at the moment, but there is not a spot available at the moment.

You haven't seen McKenzie's backup QB in #14 T. Surber. In my opinion he's the best backup in 1A, as a Freshman he could've started for any HS around. However he didn't start at Qb 1, but as Outside LB and is an All State candidate this year as a Sophomore at that position. He will get his reps as Qb1 as a Jr, and Sr. & could quite possibly be Mckenzie's next Mr. Football candidate from 1A. You heard it hear first. Feel free to ask any other posters from this area!

Maybe most proven backup would have been better way of putting it. I'm sure Surber is likely a talented future qb for the Rebels. However, how many current backup QBs in 1A have their school's single season record for passing yards? Nonetheless, it certainly proves that both teams have championship level talent (as injuries are an unfortunate part of the game and hurt 1A teams the most, both teams have been able to fight through them), and should make for a great game tomorrow.

How has Clay County been able to get competitive in football the last couple of seasons?   They were a doormat for much of the last 20 years.

At one point, we had four different head coaches in a span of four years. Definitely hard to build success when the leader of the program is a constant revolving door.

I know some have already answered this question, but here's my answer

They have prepared for this season since these kids were in 3rd grade. You have some parents on staff that have worked with these kids since then. A couple of the kids were held back in Jr. High to play with this class. Lamb, Maynard, and Dickerson are good established coaches. I hear Dickerson may be done coaching after this year, and I can't help but think Lamb and Maynard came aboard this year because of the talent this year.

I suspect they'll fall off a lot next year, however, they'll be better at QB.

Nate Adams definitely has all the tools to be a special quarterback the next two years. He set the school record for single season passing yards last year as a freshmen, despite not taking over as the starter until game 3 last year, due to Arms sustaining an injury, and then giving him the starting job back in the last regular season game. He may not be the bruising runner that Arms is, but he has a great pocket presence, always keeps his eyes downfield, and reads his progressions well. He is easily the most talented backup quarterback in 1A this year. Will hurt though losing Burchett, Kerr, and in effect Adams as receivers for next year.

  15. McKenzie is a great football team no doubt. Clay can't have back to back fumbles like they did tonight. However, I don't see this game being a running clock. Too much fight and pride from this group of seniors to roll over against anyone. If Clay plays like they did in the quarterfinals, they definitely have a puncher's chance. Should be a fun one!

  16. FIrst things first, hats off to Coalfield on a great season. Those kids showed incredible heart fighting back from a 27 point deficit to nearly tie the game. Their coaches made great adjustments and moved the ball downfield better than any team has all year. Second, while our boys certainly had some uncharacteristic mistakes, they came up big with a goal line stand when it mattered, then we got a couple huge first downs to salt away the game! Definitely some things to fix before next week, but glad we found a way to finish the game. Anything can happen next week, and the game isn't won on paper! Lots of the Clay County faithful will be making the trip down Highway 111 to Finley Stadium next Friday. Super proud of this team!

I understand your focus but as another poster here says.  I’m just keeping it real.

The same people were saying the same things about South Pitt last year. They went to Cloudland (I understand it's harder to win on the road than it is at home) and only won by 1, but then beat McKenzie for a state title.

You should win by a lot more than 35-14.  Dogs need to be able to win this game by 49 or more to have any shot in title game against a loaded team.

Clay County needs to win this game just by 1+ to have a shot against McKenzie or MASE. Every game is unique and you can't get to Chattanooga without winning on Black Friday. Either team playing in Chattanooga has a shot to win. I promise you that the Dawgs will believe they can win both this week and next weekend and don't have to blow out Coalfield to measure up to McKenzie or MASE. The Dawgs have great respect for Coalfield and are only focused on beating them right now.
