Yup, I remember well. He was fun to watch. Another thing to note is that Dy'shawn often didn't play in the second half of those games. With the exception of the William Blount game, Bishop has played for 4 full quarters every week this season.

Still, to be able to achieve that feat in 10-11 games versus 15 is an accomplishment.

Absolutely! I did not mean to take anything away from De'Sean. He is the real deal! But like you said about Mobley only playing the first half... it's apples and oranges. If Mobley played four quarters for fifteen games, 4k would've been totally possible. Powell was so good in those days. I had just moved to Knoxville a couple years earlier and was spoiled with the HS ball around here during that time!

I had the pleasure of doing play by play for every one of Dy'shawn Mobley's 3.068 yards in 2011, which at the time was a state record, but is now 3rd.  And he had 15 games to do it and I know how impressive that was.  For Bishop to even be in the discussion of having an opportunity to do it in 11 or so games shows what a talented running back he is.

Alcoa's Jarod Toney has the state single season record for rushing TDs with 50 in 2009, and Mobley is next with 46.  Where is Bishop right now on rushing TDs?

Dy'Shawn also played a much much much tougher schedule. Go look at it.

  3. From the footage I have viewed, Oak Ridge does not how to utilize their athletes. I don't care what the offensive line situation they have. They have always struggled to get playmakers the ball. Powell is just too good on offense for Oak Ridge to keep up. Powell +14.

    TROLL?!  Really?!

Well I did look at their schedule and here’s the FACTS.
    PF 176.    PA 179

Over fives games played, 35.2 points for and 35.8 points allowed. So, yes, 36 points per games. They are giving up more points than they are scoring.  And yes, we all know that 60 of those, 60! Were against Powell. Just stating facts here. No need to call people troll for stating facts.

We'll see. Insert shoulder shrug emoticon.

The umpire used to coach at West. Just saying…..

Unfortunately, this happens far too often and it should be discussed more freely. I understand that there is an official shortage and it is not a glamorous job. These guys are working for peanuts. Packer opened my eyes to it with the special he ran in the past about how difficult it is to be an official. However, the Knoxville Officials Association must do better! These kids work too hard to have their efforts hindered because of the egos of grown men. Totally unacceptable. Reminds me of that scene of Coach Yoast calling out the official's in 'Remember the Titans.' "Coach, you just lost yourself the Hall of Fame" Do better, ADULTS! Let the kids play.

  6. Had the opportunity to watch this game on Mark Packer's broadcast last night. Awesome game as a fan! Haven't seen Alcoa on their heels like that in some time. The officials reminded me of that Buffalo Wild Wings commercial to keep West in the game at times. Always disheartening to see them obviously trying to impact the outcome of the game. The team that should've won, did. Best of luck to both teams as they move forward this season!

  7. I have had the pleasure of studying AC this year having watched some of their footage. They are an excellent coached football team. You can tell that their players know exactly what they are doing on every snap. Explosive offense, stingy defense. Have taken some licks throughout the season mostly notably with their studly little QB, Martinez. Would be remiss to not discuss their lights, fireworks and overall game day experience. Top notch! They do it the RIGHT WAY all the time! Kudos to AC Players, Coaches, Fans for making Anderson County one of the best high school game day experiences in the Country!

  8. I have been following TN High School Football for 12 years since my move from the Pacific Northwest in early 2009. Additionally, I learned of the SonnyMoore Power Rankings not long after my arrival. I just do not think they are as accurate as they once were. I am not sure if that is due to the lack of IBM products used in the calculation and the inception of Apple. But they are truly not as accurate as they once were. This truly skews topics such as this, unfortunately.

  9. I have watched the footage on this contest for many weeks dating back to the 7v7 passing tournament that Coach Lowe held at his place this summer. I am expecting the Powell Panthers to take advantage of Halls through the air and on the ground. Unfortunately, the Halls defense is just not multiple enough to handle the exotic schematics that they will see tonight. Having viewed the footage, I believe that Powell has one of the best offense weapons in the state with their little QB. Watched him play against Sci Hill and he absolutely took care of business. Halls will battle hard as always but will just not be able to keep up. Best of luck to both teams as they move past the halfway point in their regular season.

  10. I haven't been able to watch much footage of the Greeneville HS Greene Devils this year. Are they as good as what I have read in the media? If so, what are are their strong suits? I know that Coach Christian always does a great job of creating a physical, down hill running attack that may stress Greeneville and force them to play some different structured coverages and add an extra run defender to the core. If this happens, I expect D-B to take advantage of them in the pass game.

I have, however, been able to view some Science Hill footage over the past few weeks. I must agree that they stand no chance vs. the Maryville Rebels. Maryville is on a collision course with Murfreesboro Oakland in late November. Coach Hunt has some absolute gutsy ball players on both sides of the ball. Science Hill does a good job of getting the ball in athletes hands. Coach Carter is always creative in his play design and utilization of multiple personnel groupings. However, Maryville's stingy defense will swarm and match their athletic ability. Their safety #1 is the real deal.
