Do they take any that are not playing football?  Or does it matter?

i think when classifying by enrollment, they only take the schools that participate in the sport. which is why there are currently more classifications for football than baseball, soccer, or girls' soccer.

    i think.

that might make too much sense, though.

I think they’ll be fine with playing that competition for one game, but do you think they can handle going 4 straight weeks of playing high caliber teams. They’ll have to beat lake county, peabody then mckenzie, fayetteville, or dresden

scrambling QBs, especially ones with O-lines can't hold the D-line, are more likely to get hurt. that kid played his entire heart and soul out in that game. i saw him walking to the bus after; he looked rough. he's an awesome athlete, but he can't carry that team all season.

After seeing that Fayetteville struggled with Moore County I would definitely give McKenzie the edge vs Fayetteville.  I think Union City would handle Dresden this season.  We will see how good Dresden is in a couple of weeks vs McKenzie and I don’t think it will be as close as many think it will be.

look back at the last 4 MC/Fayetteville games in the last 3 seasons. it doesn't matter how good fayetteville is, MC *always* puts more points on fayetteville than anyone else on the schedule. last year MC put more points on them than Red Bank did, and that was fayetteville's only regular season loss. it's a rivalry game, emotions run high and anything can happen, and moore county seemed to hit their stride.

Penalties also hurt you guys last year. I went back and looked at the stats.  126 yards in penalties.

penalties have been hurting this team for two years now. this season has been different so far...the boys play more disciplined, more maturely

  5. Moore County has put more points up against Fayetteville than any other opponent in the 3 meetings over the last two seasons (maybe more, I don't know what the *on-field* score was in 2019) regardless of how well Fayetteville did the rest of the season. my gut says a 42-14 win for Fayetteville but I can easily see the Raiders scoring 21 to 24 points.

Trying to figure out what the complaint the op had. If you live outside the City limits does that mean you can't go to the City School or vice versa?

I believe students can go to either school. there is no "zoning". however, there are some irritating, small print rules that I'm going to have to let someone else explain

Wondering how City with a population over 7000 can be in 1A?

Most 1A towns have 2 to 3k at most.

enrollment, a lot of the kids are still going to the County HS. and City will probably move up a classification next year, whenever TSSAA figures out what they're doing

There is one team in northwest Tennessee that will be very dangerous come November. Everyone is sleeping on Lake County. The Falcons are getting better and nobody will want to see them come playoff time. Not saying that Lake County is the best team in 1A in the west but they definitely can give the teams everyone favors all they want.

you guys stuck close to peabody last week. was the game as good as the score indicates?

This years City team is way more disciplined than a year go the talent has been there for a while and they are senior led now. Biggest difference out side of being humbled last year and lack of discipline is the offense can finally move the ball with a more efficient QB than the kid a year ago..they aren't one dimensional now. Still wont be a walk in the park vs Mckenzie because they have a lot of motivation and returning guys as well that game will be epic. The last team you want to see come to your home field will be this City team.

their discipline was on full display against Upperman last week

Wasn't there a high school there once upon a time before the current City was opened?

City was actually around *several* years ago and closed, sending all the kids to the county high school even though they'd been in the city school system through elementary and middle schools. Lincoln County's population started growing, the HS got a little too crowded, and there was a push to re-open the City high school, which happened...10 to 12 years ago? something like that.

and before anyone says all of Lincoln County's talent went to City, Lincoln County was in a downward spiral long before the split. this group of boys at City is a special group, most have been playing together since peewee league, in the City school system.

I've wondered as well why we don't use our TEs more. I know we have some boys that have the size and hands for it.  Also, what about using #7 as a blocking fullback for our speedy little running backs.  He could open holes like the Jaws of Life.

i've wondered that myself, especially when they line up in wildcat. let 7 take the snap and hand it off to 1 or 3, then clear the way

Just gonna throw this in the conversation, doesn't add to or take away from any of it but it's worth looking at IMO..... Peabody has been trashed by a lot of people here and on social media about their dropping down to 1A this season.... We all know classification is based on enrollment and Peabody DOES fall into 1A numbers there, albeit near the top.  The numbers I look at this time of the year for those whiney lil ones who cried about Peabody moving down and picking on these poor 1A teams are the roster sizes of the teams left... Here you go from the Final 8 in Class 1A:

    Cloudland-28

    Lake Co.- 28

    Coalfield- 36

    McKenzie- 44

    Peabody- 47

    So. Pittsburg-50

    Fayetteville- 53

    Gordonsville-61

And from one of the more vocal fan bases about Peabody moving down, Cornersville, their roster was 46 players, 1 less than Peabody and 2 more than the Rebel team that sent them home.....

Congrats to all of these teams on your outstanding seasons, should be some great football the next 3 weekends, safe travels for all of the fans, with no injuries for any players, and lifetime of memories for everyone involved..... oh yeah BTW, ROLL TIDE

I love it when people use numbers to make their argument

maaaaayyyyyyybbbeeeeeeee? But, after Friday, I'd love to talk about it.

honestly, i was kinda hoping City would have a shot at breaking Peabody's ridiculous win streak. now that it's broken....i'll pull for them against whatever team they face, one Friday at a time

Peabody defense allowed points per game is less than that. There were a few games that were shutouts by the starters and the second team played 3 quarters and allowed points.

from what i've seen, peabody's starters don't usually play the full game anyway. i understand the ppg is skewed because in games like that the starters come off, but that just adds more evidence to the point i was trying to make: how do some of these people say McKeznie, Peabody, and Fayetteville defenses are bad?

  15. i've seen a couple posts saying neither team has a good defense. just going by points alone, both teams hold opponents to an average 12 ppg. I'm a lot more familiar with Fayetteville and know that their first string defense has shut out a couple teams, and that there have been a couple more games that had the opponents scoring only when either the second string defense or when the Tiger offense was on the field. is there something i'm missing?

    for reference:

    Gordonsville allows 10.5

    Peabody 12.3

    Cland 14.1

    S Pitt 13.8

    Clay 12.4

    Coalfield 11.8

    Cornersville 10.5

    Lake Co 17.3

    Dresden 15.7
