Probably a long shot after his unfortunate ordeal @ Catholic, but what about Steve Matthews, former Catholic Coach? I doubt he would be in consideration for the job after what took place when he was Coach there, but keep in mind, him and Gaddis are really close, and JG coached him when he was at Tullahoma. Just throwing it out there.

I think Steve Matthews would have a good shot at Tullahoma when John Olive hangs it up. 1987 semi-final team QB for the Wildcats.  I would welcome him back.

  2. I have a hard time betting against a team that has beat 14 4A teams, a playoff bound 5A team and 3 6A teams in the same season.  But we did give up a safety in a scrimmage so I guess anything is possible. I really don't know if we can play  with the sun out though. It's been dark almost our whole season. But win or lose we will have carried the west side bracket as best as it could have been carried.

Good analysis but your numbers for The Cyclones is incorrect. EHS has only played 13 games. 9 game regular season. So their stats are..

    PF 502   ( 38.6 ppg )

    PA 122   (9.4 ppg )

just wanting the numbers to be what they are  so, now it’s more even and even more interesting…..

    EHS   38.6 ppg     9.4 ppg

    THS   38.1 ppg    9.3 ppg*

    * using the already stated stats for Tullahoma

The stats are useless. Tullahoma scored 49 points in the first 10 minutes against Glencliff and put freshmen and sophomore in for 3 quarters and played the second half with 10 minute quarters because it was so over. In fact several games were such blow outs that younger kids played half the game. The wildcats could have scored another 200 points this year if it mattered and not allowed any in a few games. A Win is a Win nobody wanted to just pile on when it's over.  The stats just don't tell the story.

The issue with these statistics are that it’s based on your opponents out on the west side which no disrespect but has been known to be the weak side of the state when it comes to 4A football. Statistics are only relevant really if we had some common opponents. But I like everyone thinking we are the underdog. This bunch of young men from Elizabethton are a special group, probably will never be another group like them again and we sure hope they can complete this dynasty

Every week all season long when I looked at the rankings it was Greeneville Tullahoma, Pearl-Cohn, Haywood, Montgomery-Central, Marshall County and Elizabethton moved around in there somewhere. There were more top 10 teams from the western side this season each and every week. I know rankings don't tell the whole story, but to say that there wasn't much competition out west might be a stretch. I honestly can't see why Tullahoma at 86.20 degrees west was in the west region but it saved Elizabethton meeting us last Friday instead of this Saturday.  I think the perceived competition gap is closing year by year and will achieve parity pretty soon. But I guess it takes a west bracket champion to step up and do it. Bless Haywood for toting the water this long. Them kids got some broad shoulders out there.

  5. Hats off to the whole Haywood team and fans. I was really impressed with the turnout. That shows how much y'all care about your program and your kids. I had hoped to really see a tough go of it for the Wildcats and y'all didn't disappoint. 20-19 at halftime showed how good you are. The second half seemed to show conditioning and maybe the travel and cold. It's hard to go all out every play all night against teams at this level. I know why the Tomcats stay in the hunt year after year. We may never be here again, but you have the secret to keep on going. We have enjoyed a special group this year.

I think with the addition of the Knoxville area teams and region 2 it’s forced tullahoma to move west.  I’m not sure it’s a bad thing for y’all though.

Oh we have made the best of it.  We had 377 miles of travel just to get to our away region games. And have 371 miles for next year. Chattanooga, should it happen, would be the shortest trip we make.

  7. Y'all just take it one game at a time. The whole season is just one game and then a new season next week. I'm a Tullahoma fan and having to put Pearl-Cohn down twice in the same year was really against the odds. No, really the predictions were that it wouldn't happen. Just one game at a time. I heard all season that Greeneville was the best until they weren't the best. At this point what you did or didn't do in week 3 or 4 might as well have been last season. We were really good last year and knew it. We beat Nolensville once in region play and then they waited till playoff time to settle that score. We were looking ahead to the next week and it cost us. Good luck to all in the east. I'm still trying to figure out how we got in the western bracket being only 77 miles from Chattanooga.

Will this game be streamed anywhere

As far as I know the audio only will be available on Youtube. The local radio station 93.9 the duck will let you listen on their station online also. But the only TV broadcast will be on our local electric, internet and cable provider Tullahoma Utilities Authority on channel 23. Unless there is something else I have missed. My TV 30 from Nashville carried our game last week I guess they wanted a 6A game this week. If I find out any other way I will post here ASAP.

  9. I’ve waited all season for a team to really test us and make us dig deep to get the W.  The 1st Pearl-Cohn game almost did but we know now that they were not as complete a team as most thought. It would be sad for either of our teams to win big on Friday and think they were good to go in the championship and then be surprised. Haywood has been there so many times already they must realize how good they are by now. Tullahoma seems to still be looking to see if they can move the next mountain in their way.

  10. Y'all bring some blankets. The high in Tullahoma is gonna be 42F on Friday and I guess by 9pm it will be under 32F. We are 1047 feet in elevation and get a fair breeze in the evenings some times. The last 2 games I have been froze solid by the end. I don't have warm hunting clothes.  I'm sitting in a sleeping bag for this one. I have seen hot chocolate at the concession stands. Good luck and bundle up.

Watched a couple of games on Tullahoma, one thing that sticks out is discipline. We have to stay on blocks and be methodical this game

They do keep to their assignments rather well. The only Haywood game film I saw was against Covington maybe 6 weeks ago. They do not play the same style of football as Tullahoma. Haywood's size gives them some options that other teams don't enjoy. But with that size seemed to be a lack in overall speed and agility on the line. Tullahoma's linemen for their size move quite a bit quicker than what I saw against Covington. It could be a speed difference that helps negate the size some. But we will see. Maintaining a running game against Tullahoma has been a tall order this year but if anyone has a chance Haywood's big O-line might get it done. I think this game might be even a better game to see than the 4A championship game. I wouldn't be ashamed to say I lost to either of these teams. You are seeing the best of the best this year. In 48 hours we should be froze to death and know who is going to Chattanooga.

Pearl went up.  Could have stayed in 3A  No one denied them.

They let 3 each of the 3A teams move up because they had 52 teams in the 3A class and only 46 teams in the 4A class. This made 6 equal classes of 49 teams each. They would like to have 48 in each class but as counties add new schools they get a few more as they go. Only one 2A team moved to 3A  and no 1A, 4A or 5A teams were allowed to move up. The main effort is to keep an equal number of teams in each class. I wish the regions had the same number of teams as some only had 5 teams  and others had 9 teams. But travel distance and cost figures into laying out regions within each class.

Wrong!  Tullahoma chose to go down into 4A classification.  Get it right.  The rest of our sports dropped too.

Wrong.... The enrollment numbers for 5A classification started at 1115 students. Tullahoma only had 1090 as of the count date.  We are the second largest school in 4A this season.  https://cms-files.tssaa.org/documents/tssaa/2020-21/2021classification.html#di-football

Not as big considering Haywood is the only school in the county

Tullahoma has to share the talent pool with a 6A team at Coffee County central. We are the second largest school in 4A. We tried to play up to 5A for this 3 year classification period but we’re denied. I think we will have 5 A enrollment numbers by 2023.

If I remember correctly Tullahoma paid $6 million for the stadium along with all other upgrades to the facility, the booster club furnished the Jumbotron…..While AEDC employees many from this area, there isn’t any direct financial support, some indirect support through  STEM programs.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's a little federal money came to town to help with the schools due to a large influx of federal workers. But nothing comes directly from the AEDC complex other than some decent salaries that help with the tax base some. We have a pretty good sales tax collection that helps with the school funding better than other cities our size. Wait until the Blue Oval starts spending in Haywood County, y'all guys will have a domed stadium and so many kids you'll have to move to 6A with 2 teams.

Tullahoma’s kicker is pretty impressive!!! He is 1 of 5 kicker finalist for Mr. Football.

And there is 2 of them 2 years apart. 95% touchback on all the kickoffs. You have to plan to start every drive on your  20 all night long. Field goals inside the 40 are almost a guarantee. And have hardly punted this season but they are just as good there too.

Tullahoma has to stop choking on play calling in the beginning of playoff games.  Regular season it is all fun and games.  Playoffs we lock up on play calls until its late.  Haywood will put pressure on us to get after it early.  We might want to get a first down before the last series before halftime.  No completions until last series before the half.  PC would crowd the box and pull the safety and have 7 in the box and we would run the ball!

The Wildcats stout defense has let them move at a difference pace up to this point. When the D keeps games within reach well into the second half you don't have a sense of urgency. The defense will still be there this week. But the game may get out of reach a bit earlier this week. Agreed it would be nice to see some more pressure put on the other team to play our game in the first half. Maybe this is the week to get ready to move that mountain between us and the gold football.
