No I’m standing by my initial prediction. . 44-8 Boone. . My heartfelt prediction IF Hampton shocks is 16-14 Dogs. . I just respect Pujo ALOT and i Hope he’s right. . Jus Sayin. Kinda like the Vols whipping Bama. . Who’d have thought Saban would get embarrassingly out coached. .

I think Boone COULD beat Hampton by that much, but won't. As soon as Boone gets a 3 TD lead so far this year the coach has called off the dogs. Even in that crazy Cherokee game starters were out before half and Boone had 3rd stringers still scoring TDs. But the rest of the games once there is a big enough lead he's been keeping it on the ground, avoiding turnovers, eating the clock and trying to keep starters healthy.

  2. Boone comes in 8-0 for the first time ever. Crockett is struggling this season. This is the first time in awhile where this game isn't a deciding factor in the conference championship. No team has won on the opponent's field since maybe 2014 when Boone was dominant for years. Since then whoever is at home seems to pull out the victory no matter who's the "better team on paper."

I've never heard that anyone in a school is supposed to "make money for the school."  There public schools that are public funded.  that don't make no sense.

I've got to assume you're being facetious with your poor grammar on a post about public schools? But if not...  Anyway...

Of course it's part of the AD's job to look out for the budget for the athletic department- I guess not necessarily to "make money for the school."  But ticket sales from football and basketball are a HUGE part of the overall budget for the whole athletic department. Yes, public schools can get by with what's allocated from the school board... but I would assume there's a certain number of ticket sales that are expected as part of the set budget so anything that negatively impacts that number (people staying home to watch a game instead of buying a ticket) would hurt the school.

I sometimes watch the Dobyns Bennett streams because they stream every game at home, and there will be like thousands watching, especially against Greeneville. Maybe they'd actually fill the upper deck if they'd stop streaming

Right- so Boone's AD looks like the "bad guy" for not streaming, but if his job is to help make money for the school- I'm sure they are making more money by not making it available to watch other than to buy a ticket.

Will this game be streamed or is the internet scarce up that way?

Sometimes cuzin' Johnny can rub two sticks together with some tin foil and we can get that dubba dubba dubba internet thing to work...

But - typically no, Boone's AD doesn't like video because it takes away from the gate. He won't allow the local news stations to broadcast the games unless they pay what the news folks said was "an exorbitant amount".  I do see his point however, many would choose to stay home and watch from their comfy coach instead of going to the game if that's an option. The last Musket Bowl that was televised was terrible weather and many stayed home to watch on tv instead paying to see it live. I don't think Boone's been on TV at home since then.

What station did you listen to?  Greeneville’s play by play guys have been there for over 20 years and feel like they do a good job and make you feel like you are at the game. (I listen to them every week I can’t get to a game since I live in Knoxville)

It was the DB Youtube channel

OK Blazer, I perceive you as a smart thinking man. If you win, other than the 7-0 record, how does that affect Boone? If you lose, other than being 6-1, how does that affect Boone?

It's non-conference so it doesn't matter as far as playoff standings. However, Boone hates losing to a city school so it's a pride thing. Boone should have beat SH last year other than a couple of special teams mistakes would have won.

Also, right now Boone is TIED for the best start in school history- a win next week makes them have THE best start in school history.  Players all year have said they want to go undefeated so it would deflate them a bit but also fuel a fire for the next two games which are conference games.

  8. This is the Blazer's year if O-line does it's job and the QB gets off to a better start than he has the last couple of games. Defense is stout- zone coverage on defense may give up too many short passes that'll add up against a good passing team, but if they make those small corrections and stay healthy this is the year to compete against the Knoxville teams.

  9. Don't know who's the best- but the two that called the DB/Greeneville game weren't great.  A good announcer will make you feel like you're watching the game even though you can't see it. I was watching the game with their call and was still confused b/c they often got the player's names incorrect, inserted way too much personal opinion and degraded players on air.

  10. That was a rough game for both offenses.  Cyclones was covering Boone's only pass plays effectively but the fact that Boone's coaches couldn't pull anything else out of the hat other than to run it up the middle is baffling.

Cyclones looked much better defensively. Both teams better get back to the drawing board on offense for next week.

  11. Blazerset1 either got some bad intel early on or just doesn't have confidence in his team. Not sure which.

Boone has not faced a passing team yet this year, and since Elizabethton had a total of 3 passing yards against Greeneville I'm not sure they'll see it yet. BUT... Eliz. at least did what I thought they should and move #18 to the QB spot. He just didn't get a chance to do much at Greeneville.  Boone's secondary is fast, but the team seems much better at stopping the run game than the passing game. There have been a couple of throws that if they were on-the-money they would have been TDs against Boone. So we'll see.

As far as the kids on this team... the seniors are the only ones who remember getting "beat" by E-town. Last year Boone was in it the whole game... just couldn't score on that last drive.  At that time Jenkins still couldn't make up his mind about who was going to be QB and THAT messed with their heads and their performance more than any other team did.  Like they say, if you have two QBs you have none.

The year before it was a doomed field goal before it was even kicked because you could clearly see they weren't covering the kid who blocked it. Coach should have called a time out and changed the play.

So I don't think this team has any "fears" of Elizabethton nor do they care about past records. They feel cheated that they didn't win the last two times they played and they are ready to win this one.

Witten is a very good coach and he's eventually going to figure out how to win without the studs from last year. I think this will be the toughest opponent Boone has faced to date.  But if the Blazers can get a handle on those holding penalties (still way too many) and use a more diverse offense than just run up the middle, Boone should win this one easily.

Don’t go there. Like Kenny Hawkins said on the Friday Night Rival broadcast, you cannot tell your 2nd and 3rd string players to not score once they finally get a chance to go in. Those guys show up in the heat, rain, whatever just like the starters and work just as hard. When they get a chance to get into a game and play you let them play. You don’t tell them “hey, don’t try to score” just because your opponent is awful. Not fair to those kids. Science Hill continued to run the ball with the running clock. It’s not their fault West Ridge couldn’t even stop their backups. The Hilltoppers had most of their backups in with 4-5 min min left in the 3rd qtr.

Uh- didn't say it was right or wrong. I just made the observation. Didn't need a lecture.

Johnson City has two middle schools now, Indian Trail and Liberty Bell. From what I’ve been told, Liberty Bell has a pretty good team every year. I actually watched them play Greeneville Middle a few weeks back and Liberty Bell won 38-18. Indian Trail has a football team for the first time. They’ve only played a few games so far but I don’t think they’ve won yet. For those unfamiliar with Johnson City, until this school year they had 7 elementary schools feeding into one intermediate school (5th and 6th grade) and one middle school (7th and 8th grade). These kids all then go to Science Hill for high school. The school system has become extremely overcrowded, especially in the last few years. It’s so overcrowded they can’t even allow kids willing to pay tuition who live out of the district in. There’s no room and it gets worse every year.

The elementary age kids play in a program called Junior Toppers. I have friends whose kids play. They seem to do well. There are a lot of kids and the coaches appear to do a good job.

I’m not quite sure what happens once these kids get to high school. Like you said, I do know there are a ton of athletic kids roaming the halls at Science Hill who don’t play football. I’ve heard some things, politics coming into play etc but I have no idea if any of it is true.

Not to get too Socio/political, but with Science Hill... the kids that are still playing sports in HS -many times are the kids who's parents can afford the extra private lessons, the AAU etc. Everyone else kind of drops off. Bart Lyon does a good job with JR Toppers of getting lots of kids involved in the JR Toppers. I know some coaches would go to Keystone area and pick up kids for practice etc. But once they get to school ball, you don't have the other parents willing to invest in that.  Science Hill has noticed a big drop-off in fan support as well in the past couple of years.  As far as Elizabethton-  it's almost a religion. For their middle school team they had 90 kids come out to play 6-8th grade... compare that to Boone who combines 5 middle schools and can only get 30 kids to play middle school ball and they are getting killed every game.  So I think Elizabethton just needs to adjust to their new life without those 2-3 star players and they should be fine as the season goes on.  They probably have the better coach to make those adjustments.
