  1. I wish I could say everything I’m really feeling and wanting to say but I won’t. I will say this. Walker has practically been non existent ever since Smith and Rebstock announced they were moving on to Bartlett. I personally think he has gotten some bad advice and I’m not gonna speculate on where he got it from. Knowing what I know  I laughed when I read the commercial appeal article.

Don't be an instigator. There are also several programs that had multiple head coaches the same time Marley left USJ.

Not being an instigator! I am well aware of the turnover at west Tn schools in that timeframe. My Haywood probably has more turnover than y’all do between Massey and Marley. I know why Haywood has had coaching changes. Why has USJ?

this is just water-cooler talk I've heard from dads, but is there any chance they pursue either of the two private school coaches already in town?

One of those coaches has already left. I doubt very seriously the other one is the daddy’s guy! The daddy’s is why nobody wants the job at USJ. I’m assuming they are having to go out of area to find someone

I have no first-hand knowledge of what Coach Smith may or may not do, but I can list several reasons why he might consider leaving.

    1.     There’s no way Haywood, or any other public school system in West Tennessee, can match the salary USJ will offer him.

    2.     Haywood High is in shambles…no discipline, kids in control, fights, threats, low test scores…you name it!

    3.     Large numbers of students are leaving the system for Crockett Co. and the Jackson privates, and who can blame them.

    4.     I realize money is a problem, but the county commission and school board can’t, or won’t, support athletics.  Just empty talk about a new stadium with a turf field and an athletic training facility.  The training facility might happen, but I won’t believe it until I see it. (Haywood is rapidly falling behind other systems in West Tennessee as far as facilities are concerned.)

Let’s face it.  With his resume, Coach Smith could quit today, and have a job tomorrow. I hope he stays, but I can see why he might choose to leave.

I can’t help but give my two cents on the subject. Everything you stated is true Stacmot, but I don’t think those are  the reasons he’s looking to leave. I truly believe Smith loves sending kids off to play ball at the next level. No better place in west Tn to do that other than Haywood. From what I understand he got tired of the “recruiting “ that went on in Memphis while he was at Germantown. There is no recruiting in Brownsville. Unless he plans on poaching talent from other schools to go to USJ I don’t see him being there long term. That was the main reason he wanted to come to Haywood from what I understand. I also understand coach smith has a beef with the newly hired superintendent in Haywood that came from Memphis, who was at Germantown while he was there. Coach Smith isn’t the only person with a problem about the new hire but that’s a different topic for a different day. Coach Smith may very well take the USJ job if offered but I totally do not see him being happy there. At Haywood all you have to do is keep a few people above you happy. At USJ you have to keep a bunch of rich daddy’s happy. Big difference. I don’t think Chris Smith is that type. I could be wrong.

HA! Your funny. IF you would like to go back and look, SGC had Haywood on the schedule way before we were put in the same region. I would be disappointed as well that Henry, and Covington especially are not on the schedule.

I’m aware of that. Why not keep us on schedule you think?

I live in Clarksville. So right at 3hrs one way.

I don’t doubt that UTC is nice and I’m sure Chattanooga is nice. West Tn. people are sick of having to drive to east Tn. How would East Tn people like having to drive to west Tn every year? It only makes sense to me to have it in the middle in Nashville/Murfreesboro. Just my opinion. Heck I would be good with Clarksville.

I agree. Chattanooga is pretty much accessible for everyone except the far east and west. And the experience there is SO much better than anywhere else it’s been held. No offense but Cookeville was a dead spot. Much better in Chatt. Easy access. Parking right in front of the entrance gate. Heck i walked out to the car and back at halftime. Lots of good food, hotels, and in a fairly safe part of town. No WAY we go back to the Liberty Bowl. Every house around the stadium has bars on all the windows and doors. Not a good place to walk back to your car after dark. I do like the idea of the new Titans stadium. But parking, hotels, etc will be a pain. I hope they leave it at UTC. It’s a great location. I realize you’re never gonna make everyone happy regardless of the location. But I’m quite happy with it staying where it is.

How far do you live from Chattanooga?

Ive stated this before when every team that wins state claims to be the best ever. By the way that BA team had a 6'7 365lb left tackle(Texas). Their defensive line was as follows: 6'4 255, 6'7 285, 6'2 245, 6'6 260. Not to mention 6'3 and 6'2 receivers. This is the tiny team from the 95 BA squad!

I was more of an MBA fan then, but that BA team was the best I have seen in the 46 years I have followed TN high school football(even better than the 72 TN High team). With the big uproar now over financial aid, let's remember then you could only have 3 football players on financial aid actually play. They had the best coaches and unbelievable talent!

That BA team had the most dominating defense this state has seen. The starting defense was loaded with college players. Here is their lineup and college they played at:

    DE Air Force
    DT MTSU
    NG nowhere
    DT Memphis
    DE Tennessee
    LB Nebraska
LB Georgia Military ( Tito Lee. The best player on the team, but didn't qualify)
    CB Virginia Tech
    CB Tennessee
    SS Vanderbilt
    FS Tennessee

Most of these guys played on offense too. An offense that had receivers that went to Ole Miss and Army, and a tackle that went to Texas.

And to think little Ol  Haywood County beat Brentwood Academy in 94. It was a great game! Then went on to lose to Cleveland 7-6 in the championship

The new soccer stadium in Nashville, Geodis Park, is an obvious answer if it's available. It's centrally located in the state, easily accessible in the city, and far nicer than anything else in the state, including having a roof over the seating areas. With a capacity of 30,000, it's also a reasonable size. Bigger stadiums would make the crowds these days just look sad.

I’m sure there would be more fans at the championships in Vandy stadium than Vandys typical home games not involving UT

100% agree on Murfreesboro.  They have the hotel space and it is centrally located.  Nashville has it as well, but the hotel rates would be astronomical unless you stayed outside if the city.

At least Nashville/Murfreesboro is centrally located. Most people in the state could drive to the game then turn around and drive back home. Hard to do that when the game is 5-6 hours away on the other side of the state
