I think he might transfer out but you never know and Cory Russell I think is the leading receiver at Maryville.

Heupel needs to offer Both Immediately. You can’t beat the heart of an in State Player. They could both make a difference at an SEC School. I’d hate to see them both waste their college careers at a FCS school.

The Funny thing BC is the program he pulls for has Open Enrollment too and has gotten transfer from not just Carter County but Sullivan County too .

Swipes you’re alive. I was afraid that you had done humanity a favor and disappeared. You and BC need to carry a potted plant because you’re both a waste of oxygen. I thought BC was the dumbest person on this thread. He better hope you don’t accidentally OD smoking crack. You two sure you’re not cousins. I had forgotten that BC existed. But I’m still trying. Swipes check your birth certificate. I’m pretty sure it’s an apology letter from the condom factory. Apparently all someone needs to do is mention the devils or tornadoes and you two come outta the closet holding hands. Cheating is cheating whether you want to blame some other program for the crap you all have been doing for decades. Swipes your just mad because Alcoa has more money than Greenville. Can’t buy parents the way Alcoa can nor supplement the coaching salaries with a “generous” donation from a big corporation. I’m against open enrollment for athletics. I support a level playing field for all the kids. And in Alcoa’s case it’s blatantly obvious that they get the best athletes in Blount Co just like Greene. So you 2 pathetic excuses for fans can shove your excuses up your small intestines.

  3. Meigs Co might be “going to the state championship”. Hope they have a spot for the silver ball. I’m ready for Alcoa to either go private or play 6A. The “open enrollment” situation needs the attention of the TSSAA atp. All the good athletes in Blount Co end up at Alcoa and it’s getting abhorrent that a school with their “enrollment numbers” send a half dozen kids to play college football Every Year. Greenville is and example. But they don’t have the recruiting budget (thanks to Alcoa Aluminum Corp) or the job opportunities (thanks again) that Alcoa utilizes. So good luck to whoever makes it to Chattanooga to grab the runner up trophy.

Coaching staffs do matter, but this coaching staff is solid. Not great, not bad, just solid.

players have to step up and make plays. Offensive line has to give plays more time to develop. Hard to get a real feel on how good they are or they aren’t because of the schedule.

I’m Proud they got the Win. They’re more talented than they’ve played all season.

Look at our history,so have we regardless of transfers 70% win percentage for near 40 years until last 3.Probably better than Gordys as a whole. Our youth programs are outstanding also.4-1 all time verses Gordy

That’s where it starts. With the kids playing when they’re little. We had a 6yr old league called “grass cutters”. Now days with all the garbage about CTE parents won’t let the kids play. I can’t say I’m brain damaged but I’m sure Swipes would disagree. .

    Well I am biased also.lol

I was on the 87 team also.It WAS the best team we ever had.The Defense was nasty and the O-line were bull dozers and our WR was a Rocket.Your team was the best we played all year other than Knox Webb.

How is Gordonsville consistently good. U guys using the transfer portal like Alcoa and the Greene Co Allstars. I’m not accusing of anything. But they have seemingly always put a highly competitive team on the field.

South Town you never seem to disappoint when it comes to any subject.
You’re posts always spot on as usual. Love the horse race. And that’s what it’s become based on regional popularity. Probably 5-8 Kids in 1A statewide that “deserve” it. But it’s normally the Kid who’s Fan Base pushes them to the Top. Throw out stats. Just pick the Kid that’s going to get the Award without causing a Riot at the TSSAA Offices.

You left out Schlicht from Dresden.... Brown won't be in the running this year. They have basically been saving him for playoff times it looks like.

I was just looking at film online and the 247 top 100 players in Tn for 2024. I believe Brown is in the top 20. I’ve seen Franklin at Cornersville. The kid is built like Bo Jackson. Impressive looking Football Player. Dresden must have some dudes this year based on their results so far.

This award has to be Dawson White. No questions asked, there is no other player in 1a who has the impact on their team this kid does. If you take him off of Moore County they are an average team at best. They might as well call this award the “Mr. White” award this season.

If you take him off this team and send him to Oakland he’s a 2nd String Safety.
Anyone know of any Colleges that are interested. He’s fast. No doubt. But undersized to play QB in College. Maybe a Safety at Austin Peay or at best Tn Tech.
He’s a big fish in a small pond. I think the kid at MASE already has a lot of D1 offers . Not saying that is everything that goes into the selection. But he’s definitely Not the most talented player in 1A by a long shot. But his team wouldn’t be where they are without him. He’s definitely MC MVP. But is he really the Best State Wide. .

That QB was the real deal. Hampton was a one dimensional team. Once they figured out they were not able to really throw on them, they just loaded the box, stopped the run and dared them to try. It was still a great accomplishment for Hampton to be there. They played hard and tough. I think all Carter County teams are like that. They don’t mind to line up and play smash mouth football. Tough as nails. And 2nd place in football, followed up by a Championship in basketball tells me there are athletes and good coaches up there.

I totally agree brother. Hampton athletics has an awful lot of to be proud of. Not only now but historically. Van Huss and then White carried on to present: a track record of being great coaches at a very small Mtn School and small enrollments.
The football program has had nearly the same success with Coaches such as JC Campbell going forward. I can only imagine that IF we (Betsy) had 6 of the best players from Hampton. But those Kids are loyal to their community and School rarely IF ever transfer to Betsy.
A Carter Co “transfer portal team” with the best from the Co Schools like Greeneville would be able to play with anyone in the State. But the Co Kids are loyal. And i respect them for representing their school, friends, teammates, and community. Every Co HS has 4-5 Kids that would either Help Betsy as starters or providing quality depth. It’s about “family tradition” where your kids go to HS to the detriment of Elizabethton. Other “open enrollment” Counties get the best athletes from smaller City or County Schools. And it’s like the Blount Co Allstar Team. I think everyone who plays outta not live more than 15mi from the City System. Either move to the City or Play where you pay taxes. Open Enrollment is great for a few and detrimental to A Lot.

Don’t forget, a lot of Betsy fans stayed to support Hampton too. That previous weekend was special for Carter County. We were, probably, the first county not named Blount or Knox to have multiple (3) teams HOSTING semifinal games. If Cloudland could have pulled it off, we’d had 3 teams from little ole Carter County in the Championship games. Not sure if that has ever been done in the modern era.

Oh i was there too. . Hampton should have been tied at half. But just didn’t have athleticism of Westview.

You have to realize just how special them times are and that it may never be that way again.

Oh i know how “special” was. So many losses in the Semis starting with Maryville in the rain at their place with Rider coaching his “Sons”. Up with the ball leading 13-10. Cyclones needed a 3rd an 4 to seal the game with less than 2mins left. They passed but came up a yard short. Punted. Maryville pulls a double pass trick play with under a minute to go inside their 20 to score and win 16-13. That was the State Championship Game because Maryville beat some team out West 56-3 in the Finals. So no Silver Ball Either. This scenario has played out multiple times with CAK and Alcoa. Betsy was clearly the 2nd best team every season.
So i can see how the Fans who finally made it to the big game were obliviously excited and hungry for what had been denied for too long. And no help from the TSSAA.

2019 was a special time. 2020 we did the best with the restrictions that were in place. But that 2019 game was an absolute spectacle. The roar of that crowd before the game was insane. I’ve never been to a high school football game like that one. After the 2020 game it was more of a sense of relief than accomplishment. Defense of a title is a completely different ball game than chasing it.

Makes sense. I guess that’s why there we’re more people there to support Hampton than Betsy. I was trying to figure out WTF was going on.

I like the new stadium but as far as fans go I just can’t figure it out but the true football fans go to the away games and yell like crazy and know one leaves.I have had season tickets for about 25 years and I sit in the top row of section AA and it’s about empty because the people that have the season tickets hardly ever show up and if they do they always leave early.I know one thing that there are a lot of people in my section that are band parents and they hardly ever stay after the band plays.Like I said if you want to see the true fans come to the away games and we get rowdy.

Lawn Man I’m not sure i understand why “fans” will travel but not attend home games. It absolutely makes no sense. I was at the 2021 State Championship Game with Tullahoma. I was thoroughly surprised by the lack of Betsy Fans. And hardly anyone else who i recognized. Tullahoma brought their whole town. Didn’t the Cyclones set a record for attendance in the 2019 Championship Game? Has the Community just gotten complacent because Witten has won it all multiple times already. I wish back in the day we routinely beat both SH and DB in the same season. Especially DB. They just had so many athletes and depth every year but we had problems with them in the Big 7 Conference. Rider did win a nail biter in his first or second season to win the championship in 76 or 77 i believe. We promptly lost to Cocke Co in the Playoffs. Fans showed up at Home and on the Road. I don’t know what is going on with the lack of enthusiasm for this Program. Its baffling

Back in the 70’s and 80’s there were more students that attended EHS and less things to do so Friday night football was the main event in town. Also Tom Taylor hurts attendance some people can’t go which is good for them but some people that can go just set home and watch it for free. Also way in the past the band had their supporters but football was what made the people come now not so much.                                                          I agree on the old stadium I liked the atmosphere there a lot better. The seats and bathrooms and concession stands at the new place are a lot better. Parking is not great at either place unless you know where to.

Good Points. . Also Kids and Adults didn’t have cell phones etc. It was the way people got together as fellow students and their parents, friends, alumni, etc. A different time for sure my friend.

Me and about 10 people around me were loud but no cowbell.

Lawn man what is going on with the “fans”. Heck I remember the 1982 game opener against Science Hill and there were easily 10,000 people there or more. There’s an archive article in the Star Online about that game at Brown Childress Stadium. We won a blood an guts game 7 to 0. And beat Tn High at home 14 to 0 the following week with a similar crowd.  That’s just an example. It was like that as far back into the 70’s as i can remember. My Dad had season tickets 2 rows below the e in cyclones written on the press box. That’s how i was able to find him in the mass of humanity when i came back from concessions as a kid. The new Stadium is Great and All but i still don’t understand why we couldn’t have remodeled the old historic Stadium. I’ve heard all the pros and cons. And we know money talks. Glad the Laporte Family thought enough of our Community to help with the financing but did we have to honor them by calling it “Citizens Bank Stadium”. It’s abhorrent considering all the past Coaches Teachers etc who made Betsy what it is. Nice that they gave Coach Rider a 3ft stone and a small bronze plaque. Citizens Bank’s Name should be on that rock instead: with the Stadium named in Honor of someone who devoted their blood, sweat, and tears over decades to our Football Tradition. Ok brother I’m tired of complaining. What’s the problem with the Fans. Because that place should be packed out considering the success their having with Witten.

Gotta get with the times or left behind, lol. They might be sorta fun to pet in a few years. Hope they get declawed. The modern America,WWWOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I’m all about free speech and free expression. But if you have a dress code how on earth are kids being allowed to clip a cat tail on their backside and claw at each other passing in the hallway. Have we gotten to a point that the teachers are afraid of disciplining kids for fear of a lawsuit.

We don't need anymore of that woke BS.These liberals have mutilated enough kids minds nd bodies. Why can't we just go back to the way it used to be,put them back in the hay and Tobacco fields.lol.This world is so crazy now.

What’s up with “furries” and litter boxes in the bathrooms? I thought it was a big joke until my 11yr old told me it’s true and showed me a video she took of girls wearing cat collars and painting whiskers on their face. And meowing at each other. That kinda craziness would have gotten you a 3 day suspension and a good beating from both the teacher and parents when i was in grade school.
