Outsider here. I highly doubt Caine was offered anything. I'm thinking there was probably some interest on both sides and there was probably some initial information thrown out there such as typical teaching salary and coaching stipend, pretty much what anyone could get with a little research. Also, Beeman, I'm pretty sure Upperman had been pretty good before Caine got there. I can't remember the coach before name that really built the Upperman program. I want to say Herring but I may be off on that. Anyway, not taking a shot at Caine, but he did not build that program. Has he done well, yes, but so did the coach before him.

Ben Herron was there from 2011-2017.  He went 48-33 overall, which isn't awful.  13-1 in 2013 and 9-3 in 2015.  Outside of those two years, they were pretty average.   Caine has definitely elevated the program, though.   Having said all that, I don't think he was offered anything either.

First off, don’t get so offended by words, you’re right I don’t want to see Adam Caine leave because I’m really good friends with him. He is a very good coach and he is  an old-school coach. Let me retract what I said about Gallatin. The facilities are not trash. They’re just outdated and as you say they’re fixing them that’s great but that’s not enough to lure him away. That’s what I’m saying. When Gallatin was relevant and really good back in the day when I was in high school, there was not many other schools in your area now they have to split that money between all the schools so they don’t have the funds they used to have just for Gallatin that may be one problem plus your community is not as big as what it used to be because they support other schools now . Do I think Caine could do a great job there, yes, I know he could but he loves where he’s at his family loves where he’s at it’s a small town that before he got here was not very good at football just OK. His old school mentality  with the small community has been wonderful and they kind of gelled together. The kids absolutely resonate to him and absolutely love him. I do not feel at liberty to tell what he was offered and it’s not my place , but I do know, if anyone wants to know, they need to call him and ask him ! Don’t think I’m against Gallatin at all one of my very good friends played football there that lives here in Cookeville 2 streets over from me. I have no ill towards Gallatin and I’m not upset that Coach Caine is checking on jobs., Heck, I didn’t even graduate from Upperman. I actually went to Cookeville. I hope you guys do get a good coach and I hope you make it all the way to the state championships. I really do. The only reason I got on here was to let people know that he was offered and was contacted. He did not put him for the job. They contacted him. I’m telling you what I know and what I feel comfortable telling you.

So you're gonna get on here and say you know how much they offered him, but you won't say how much it was?   Convenient...  And nobody here is going to go ask Adam Caine how much Gallatin offered him.  He's not the one who got on a message board bragging about knowing how much the offer was.  You did that.  So let's hear how much Gallatin threw at him?

I never said that Upperman facilities were not trash, I said Gallatin’s was, when you go to build a successful program you have to change the culture and that is not an easy job. It takes time and people to buy in. Gallatin was a great program years ago it’s not now, so what’s enticing someone to go  there? Just because you guys say that they would be great. Maybe,  maybe not, Coach Adam Caine, and his family Love Upperman and the Community, it would take a big offer for him to leave , because he’s already changed the culture and built a program that wins. Gallatin is not that great of a job even though you guys think it is. You can think I don’t know what I’m talking about all you want but I know the money he was offered, etc. I also know he turned it down. Maybe there’s a reason you don’t have a coach yet think about that !!

I think the reason people say that Gallatin could be great again is because of A.)  talent/athleticism every year  B.)  tradition of winning  C.)  community support.   Baxter will never be a hotbed for talent.   Upperman has a 43%-44% win pct all time.  I’m sure there is support for Upperman football, but you could fit the entire population of Baxter inside Green Wave Stadium….  3 times….   Not hating on Upperman, I’m just saying that there really isn’t a comparison between the two programs.   I do want to know how much money we supposedly offered Caine though.

How much money was he offered?

Yeah, all you need to know. Very obvious. They have good enough stuff to win.

Exactly.  The right coach will come in and put their own stamp on the facilities anyway.  Absolutely Gallatin needs some upgrading.  If Caine doesn’t want that to be part of his job description, that’s fine.  Someone will.

Very true.  Growing up in this town and being a part of the program during our "Hayday" the support is still there for a winning program.  It will be funny to see all the response if we make the type of hire we all want and should be able to make.  Everyone saying it's not a top tier job anymore, are probably former opponents that we beat when they were in school.  Message board warriors that probably took a couple of loses from the WAVE, don't hide behind made up screen names.   It's comical to read all these experts here.   Happy holidays to all of you.

It’s absolutely still a top tier job.  And it is still viewed as such by coaches across the state. I’m confident we are about to see things change for the better at Gallatin.

Teachers and coaches are considered 10 month employees. If you are an 11 or 12 month employee you are admin, guidance, instructional coaches and board of ed folks.

The head football coaching stipend in Metro will depend on your number of years experience in coaching football. This is for head coaches.

    0-5 years experience $6848

    5-10 years experience  $7691

11 or more years experience  $8533

Now if you make the playoffs you get what is called extended season pay meaning you get paid for the extra time that you are putting in. That amounts to 7% of your coaching salary for each week you participate in the post season.

    1 week  7%

    2nd round 14%

    Quarters 21%

    Semis 28%

    Finals 35%

This means that both Stewart and Brunetti made an extra 35% of their stipend this year. That comes out to $11,519.55 for 11 years experience.

FYI, extended season pay is in all sports. You do not get it for the district tournament since everyone goes, but the region, substate and state tourney levels. So say basketball or baseball/softball could make and extra 21% for going to the state tournament.

Pretty good system for rewarding success.

Well I know the facts as do you but I want to hear all of these “experts” and why they think the way they do.   It gives everybody a good laugh.

I would like to hear from one of the metro people about their pay schedule.   MNPS shows different schedules based on number of days worked - anywhere from 200-241 days.  Sumner County (and most other counties) have a pay scale based on just a 200 day calendar for teachers.   Are football coaches different in this regard when it comes to metro?  How much is the coaching stipend in metro?  Anyone out there who can shed some light on this?

I do not even know how his name was brought up to be honest.  I guess just because he is not coaching anywhere at the moment.  There were a list of his last few years coaching somewhere listed and they were far from impressive.  Looks like zoning and loss of interest played a part in that.  Not a guy that would be on the top of my list.

Blade’s on-field results really took a nosedive when Indy moved from 5A to 6A.  Although with the recent success of Page and Nolensville, I don’t know that he would have done any better in 5A.  From some of the interviews I’ve watched, he doesn’t strike me as the type of guy who just loves coaching.

So it's not often that you see coaches go from one part to another, even less often that they are successful. There might have been a time where Gallatin was appealing statewide, but I believe that time has passed.

I could see Waggoner since he's got some familiarity with the area, but he seems pretty content there. Yeah he has to deal with Alcoa, but if he took the Gallatin job he'd have to deal with Oakland/RuCo. Ryan and Brown would both be taking a pay cut, would make even less sense for Brown since he left a good situation at RB to go to Baylor. Don't know much about Chandler and Spradlen leaving Greeneville for a job where it'll be tough just to make the playoffs would be a head scratcher. Kind of surprised you didn't mention Ballard instead.

West TN, the only name that would probably gets folks excited would be Smith, but with current situation and Haywood about to undergo a population boom with the ford plant, I can't see that happening. Don't know Martin and id have doubts about a guy who only lasted 2 seasons at Milan.

Middle TN, Rang moves around too much for my liking if I'm a Gallatin fan, although you cant dispute his ability. As SumCo said, Stewart is building something good at EN and so is Brooks at ER. I could see both Caine and Osteen, although both are in really good situations.

Honestly, Gallatin might be better off going for a top assistant or an HC that is a little under the radar that may have taken his current program as far as it can. Would love to what a guy like Chris Hughes or Kyle Shoulders could do at a place with more talent

I don’t think Gallatin can afford to go after an “under the radar” type guy.  We just went through 2 of those, and it has set the program back exponentially.   The administration has to get this one right.   Can they?   We’ll see.

  11. Since nobody has responded to this in a while, and no names have really leaked...  I decided to do a list of potential candidates from East, Middle, and West TN.   Plus a couple others.

    EAST:

    Brad Waggoner, Gatlinburg-Pittman

Greg Ryan, Knoxville Catholic OC  (Greenback HC 2015-2020)

    Hayden Chandley, David Crockett

Chris Brown, Baylor DC  (Red Bank HC 2018-2021)

    Eddie Spradlen, Greeneville

    MIDDLE:

    Derek Rang, Lewis Co.

    Adam Caine, Upperman

    Jamaal Stewart, East Nashville

    Thomas Osteen, Marshall Co.

    Chase Brooks, E. Robertson

    WEST:

    Chris Smith, Haywood

    JR Kirby, Covington

    Bryant Hollingsworth, Lexington

    MISSISSIPPI:

Scott Martin, Lafayette Middle School  (Charleston High School 2013-2019)

Carl Diffee, North Panola?  (Milan 2020-2021)

I realize some of these guys may not be realistic, but they are by no means ridiculous.  In any event, all of them possess great ability and have proven it on the sidelines at one point or another.

I apologize. I’ll try to clarify better. I just meant those schools had more talent the last few years. I don’t think it makes him a bad coach if Brentwood or Ravenwood just simply had better players and he couldn’t beat them.  I think a coach can only do so much if his team is not as talented as the team lined up across from him.  I heard he left education and coaching to take some time off and be with his family more. He may be ready to jump back in at a school with more talent and resources available.

I think Blade is a good coach.  I just think there are 8-10 that are better than him that are realistic choices.
