My six-year-old has become obsessed with tennis. He knows all the players, has been getting up at 5:00 am to watch the matches at Rolland Garros, and plays what we have deemed street tennis (a net set up in the middle of our street) almost every day before and after school. This is 100% driven by him. He watches my husband and I play in tournaments and wants to start playing as well. I think he has a long way to go before we get there but I think the better place to start is to figure out what the best path is to be a good competitive player to build a strong mental game and excellent technique. This summer, we are sending him to tennis camp and having private lessons a couple of times a week. I know nothing about junior tennis and how it works in the US. I read about red ball tournaments and can't find anything other than orange and green ball tournaments. One of the reasons a lot of kids miss out is simply because of a lack of information on the right path, so anyone willing to explain, would be much appreciated. I want to emphasize that this is being driven by our son and by no means are my husband and I pressuring him - he's 6! I've heard lots of stories about crazy parents. We will, however, invest in his passions as long as he has them.
