  1. Who is the genius who provided us with the magic number 100? Why not go down to 75 or 50? What is it about #'s?

Pitch counts, at least the important ones, have more to do with pitches per inning than pitches per game. For example: 125 pitches in ten innings (12.5 pitches per) is totally different from 125 pitches in 5 innings (25 pitches per). Dads, be more worried about little Johnny learning to "work through it" when he struggles. Working out of a jam is one thing, throwing 40 pitches in an inning is another.

It is interesting that so many people like to toss around the words "old school" and "when I played." For most of us, those are the days of no pitch counts (at any level), the four-man MLB rotation, and before Tommy John surgery was as common as removing tonsils.

  2. Well unfortunately we finished up last night. A walk off homerun to the same guy who beat us in cookeville with a walkoff homerun. But it should not have come down to that. we battled and never quit and with losing only 3 starting seniors and moving into a much weaker district we ought to at least make it to the regions every yr and who knows

then anything is possible. the only thing better would be moving there with new coaches next year, and with that here

is my final burn of the the year. lets go back to siegel game, because of the ineptness of our coaches we do not have the catcher that deserves to be playing there. If our sophmore catcher is there we pick off a runner or throw

1 to 2 runners out against siegel and that changes the momentum and turns things in our favor. but i guess as long as dad is still cooking you steaks most every fri we will have to endure with this catcher again next yr. we see what you are doing yell the kid can pitch but man can he catch and not only catch he can even get the ball to any of the bases where your fielder can handle it. your guy right now cant even make a decent throw to first let alone second.

yell and we see the love fest piece in the paper about your coaches, well start coaching. I bet if we took a survey

we would see that your hitting coach dont help but maybe 1 or 2 during practice in all your in season and out of season

practicing that you do. unless i guess they set up a private lesson and they pay for it. and pitching yell we know its a long season but it hard to pitch effectively when we havent pitched in 2 weeks and no bull pen work during that time.

so hopefully a new district next will bring us new coaches. and that is my final burn for the year, yes i could go on but i will stop here

Glad to know you have found an outlet for your frustration. You are probably the first dad or player ever to think that the line-up is wrong. If only you were the guy in charge. I bet you'd have Cookeville in those regions now.

  3. I agree, HTV. Drake has been very solid on the mound this year. Powell is a very young team. They are starting 3 freshmen, 2 sophs, and 2 juniors right now, with another freshman lefty in the rotation. Powell had 2 freshmen and a soph that earned all-district team honors, as well as four upper-classmen.

    The future looks very bright for the Panthers. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

WOW! Seven guys on the all-district team! When was that announce? I haven't seen anything about the all-district team.

  4. Why does it not surprise me that someone from farragut does not know about the FALL dead period. Players are not allowed to use school facilities during the dead periods with or without coaches. Also, if no coaches are around how can the school provide insurance coverage if a player is injured on campus without supervision?

Knox Co. doesn't provide insurance for athletes who aren't "in season." This means that no athlete who works out with his team is covered when the team is not officially in season.

  5. No conspiracy about them and i think they have a good program. I just don't think that he is all he seems to be. You can get your feeling pinched all you want but look at the posts they don't follow all the rules like they are supposed to. I am not saying that everybody does but those kids work with other baseball instructors to get help and Coach Pharr instead of going along with that gets mad when they go elsewhere. That to me is not a sign of a good coach but an arrogant one.

No doubt that those "other baseball instructors" are decent coaches, but ask yourself a question: why are those guys involved with those young men?

Like most intelligent humans, you will answer $. I am certain that Coach Pharr understands this, and he helps his kids because he's interested in their futures. Private instructors do that for a job. Coach Pharr is a teacher.

  6. Back to the original question, is Coach Pharr a good coach?

Emphatic YES! Coach Pharr is a first-class human and the best baseball coach in Knoxville, if not the state. His actions are those of someone who has a clean conscience and excellent character. He has a plan, he executes it, and he teaches his players how to be men as well as players. I don't know what makes a coach in the eyes of the fan, but parents know that they give their children to coaches and trust them to teach them and mold them. He, like many other coaches in this world, does an excellent job of leading and training young men.

  7. i think defintielty think that pheifer is just a bit better, kid need to work on his curve ball

NIKEAIR is having a few issues today; forgive him. He also just posted that one of his teammates had 23 homeruns through 15 games. He must be a bit confused.

  8. i am surprised they even consider what these 2 do playing baseball

Amen! This thread has so thoroughly confused me that I think it should be shut down. Was there a JV/varsity double-header? Do these two teams each have two squads? Was it a varsity double-header? This guys are so strange that I'm not even sure that they know what kind of game it was.

  9. Rice did this last year. He is doing his own scheduling to benefit his team. I think its cheap and low.

Last year? Don't have to go that far back. I think they did something screwy with the Halls schedule this year.

How dare they move games around due to weather.

  10. Rice did this last year. He is doing his own scheduling to benefit his team. I think its cheap and low.

How was the field at Halls? Could games have been played there? I am trying to see if Karns was the only place in town that didn't play due to rain? Conspiracy theory-they probably ran their sprinklers all night to avoid the wrath of Powell

  11. Sure seems like a "convenient" rain-out for Karns, especially when they have 2 games tonight in the sports belle

Definitely convenient; I imagine that the magnitude of two non-district games was too much for them to bear. I bet Rice hollered at God and had him turn on the heavy rains. By the way, how was Powell's field on Wednesday?

  12. Amen brother. I'm starting to wonder if the hospitality the Farragut players, coaches, and parents showed Siegel last year was just an act. Perhaps success breeds arrogance in East Tennessee.

Despite the mention of Farragut, I don't connect the "arrogance" and East Tennessee as a whole. I know Farragut is from Knoxville, in East TN. I know you perceive them as arrogant. However, it becomes a wide blanket statement when you refer to "arrogance in East Tennessee." Please be more specific, or perhaps you intend to insult 1/3 of the teams in the state. If so, I must remind you that there was more than one state champion last year that hailed from East Tennessee.
