  1. This late in the game it would be hard, if not close to impossible, for an unsigned senior to be formally "recruited" to play at a school. That said, if you were really REALLY dedicated, you should contact the coach at your intended school and ask about walk-ons. Most schools (particularly D3's who give no aid), have a walk-on tryout during the pre-season. These can be extremely competitive (in my experience) and the kids often don't have a lot of time to show their merit. It is possible to get a spot though and I have seen it happen more than once. Time is of the essence and the sooner you get in contact with a coach the better. Make sure they understand your intentions. Don't be afraid to be blunt and ask questions (like will you actually have a chance). If you want it bad enough and show your talent, then a good coach will have no reasonable answer as to why you shouldn't be on the team. However, you're also competing against the "recruits" and will have to be spectacular in order to replace one's spot, as a college team is only allowed so many men on a roster. Even if a walk-on doesn't make it the first time around, I've seen a number come out in the spring or at a later year and make it. Best of luck to you if you're going this route. Don't give up just because it's hard.

  2. I had the pleasure of being ref'd by Hiko for atleast 7 years throughout highschool and club. I don't think there was a friendlier guy in town. He was always in a good mood, no matter the outcome of a game or how he was treated. A true staple for Chattanooga soccer that will be greatly missed.

  3. I've heard of a kid named Corey Brewer! Ever heard of a kid named Lebron James? Who did he have on his team in high school? The great ones make their teammates better! He ended his high school career with 3 State Championships... 3 out of 4 and the only reason it was 3 and not 4 was because they moved up a division in 2002!

There were at least 2 d-1 players on those teams and several naia players, probably more of both. The head coach also coaches at d-1 akron now. Not bad company to be in as a superstar.

  4. This is pretty sad, especially considering how much complaining is going to happen when someone is left out and their coach didn't take the time to rate his top 10 players he saw this year.

How many high school soccer coaches and players would you expect to be checking the Coacht boards in the middle of the summer? Right now I'm the only person logged on Coacht.

  5. As good as these two teams are, I hate going to Baylor-McCallie games for this reason. Both teams play not to lose. Intensity and heart are always present but the skill level diminishes greatly as compared to the majority of the other games these teams play. I guess the rivalry creates kind of an intense environment for players and coaches.

  6. soccerref, if your team has had 3 reds in 5 games for slips of the mouth, then I believe the players should learn to keep their mouths shut. sorry, but I don't have any sympathy for the red for someone saying anything, that comes down to discipline from the coach down. In five years, we have had a half dozen yellows for players and 1 for the coach (me), and mine was given b/c I was warned to tell a parent to be quiet and he decided not to listen to me. As far as club v. hs, I think you do have many more inexperienced players in hs soccer, but most refs can recognize this and do a good job of letting kids know to calm down when the player is beginning to get out of control. Is a two game ban stupid, yes. But getting the red for something that a coach should teach to prevent, i.e. language, tackles from behind, is even more stupid.

Would you still feel that way if your starting sweeper was out for 2 games for trying to make a play on a breakaway that got away from him? It's silly to punish high school kids so severely for infractions that many of them probably don't fully understand. College and professional players in the US knowingly and willingly commit offenses like this and are rarely ever suspended for more than a game unless it was an unusually bad incident. So are we to say that the players who are more ignorant of the rules and far less experienced than players at a higher level are to be punished more severely for the same actions? That is completely counterintuitive.

  7. It doesn't affect the Canadian team, it affects us. All of CAK's upperclassmen would be gone on a trip (doesn't leave much of a team). The asked to scrimmage us, and since we couldn't, I told them I would see if anyone else around the Knoxville area was available. Catholic is going to try and play them, I believe. Regardless of if they find someone to scrimmage, they are still going to train at LMU...

OK, I see. I thought GoVols was asking on behalf of another team. Thanks for the clarification!

  8. Govols, I would have liked to, but we had two problems: It is on the week of our junior/senior trip, and we already have our maximum amount of scrimmages.

We are going to try to set something up next spring.

I believe Catholic is going to try and work something out.

Why would you having a junior/senior trip affect the canadian team? Are you hosting them? Are they not still available?

  9. How is the talent level for CSAS, CCS and Notre Dame this year. Who looks like they will take that division this year. Thanks.

CSAS will definitely be experiencing a down year though they have some good players. CCS will probably be in a similar boat, though they certainly have an edge because they return all but two starters. Notre Dame should be the favorite to win by far.
