  1. IMO, Fulton is the best public school team in the state this year regardless of classification. They beat all of the top teams in ET this year, including 4A teams, and then coasted in 3A state tourney after tough first game with Fayette Ware.  Very talented team and extremely well coached as always by Jody Wright.

Lee Humphrey would like a word...

I’m sure Lee Humphrey doesn’t care what I think, lol. Lee had a great high school career for sure and then started on two national title teams at Florida. But I’m talking high school only and Carter’s accomplishments, both individually plus two state titles/ state tourney MVP’s, are the best ever for a high school player in Blount County, imo

You can say Alcoa plays in a lower classification but the reality is Alcoa has had some very good teams in the last 50 years but hasn’t won a state title playing in lower classifications before they won two with Carter leading the way.

  3. Congrats Tornadoes! Incredible effort by Alcoa. Jahvin Carter is simply amazing. I’ve watched a lot of basketball in Blount County and he is the best player ever at Alcoa and the best high school player in Blount County history, imo. His accomplishments, both individually and for his team, are off the charts.

  4. Watched Alcoa vs. Tyner last night and was very impressed with the Tornadoes. When they are locked in defensively like they were last night, they are very good. Jahvin Carter is an absolute scoring machine and just keeps getting better. Scoring over 3000 points in his high school career is just ridiculous. Their young players are very talented and big contributors, too. Freshman Jahmir Dean is a big time athlete and can jump out of the gym. If he keeps growing and gets stronger, he will be a high major prospect, imo. He is the type of rangy athlete that college recruiters love.

#22 for the home team looked like the best player on the floor. Is he also a soph?

I will respectfully disagree, Owensby is good but WB’s Windle was the best player on the floor, imo. And no offense to WB’s other players because they played very hard but I would also say Owensby’s teammates are quite a bit better than Windle’s.

  6. Maryville gets the win over WB 67-61. Third quarter was the difference. Great performances by sophomore guards Woodlee and Hazelbaker for Rebels- those two are a handful. Robertson and Windle had good, but not great, games for WB. Govs needed one of them to score 30+ to beat Maryville and they didn’t.

Maryville started out 3-5 this season.  Now they have won 8 straight games including wins over Alcoa, Oak Ridge, Stone Memorial and Bearden.  One huge reason Maryville has played so well lately is because of Matthew Clemmer. I remember Govman saying that Clemmer would be a bigger loss for William Blount in Basketball.  He was right. He is an outstanding Basketball player.

You and Govman are correct, Ron. Maryville has looked like a totally different basketball team since Clemmer joined the squad. Games with William Blount will be very intense this year, imo.

Everyone eventually leaves for some reason or another. Glad you mentioned he was going to Eagleton College & Career Center because I was thinking today was I dreaming that or did someone tell me that. Hope Coach West the best and we'll sure miss him. Always a delight to hear on the TV football games.

Very true- change is inevitable. Coach West had a very good run at MHS and I wish him well at Eagleton. I also hope the new girls coach does well at MHS.

As for football, I’m sure MHS can find another tech guru to run the NFHS broadcasts. However, Scott’s on-air personality will be much tougher to replace. He did a great job.

Thx OR2. That info raises even more questions. Good luck to Coach West. I’m confident they will find someone. I’ve heard good things about the new hoops coach. She may relate a little better. Time will tell.

    Facts:

    1) Scott West loved Maryville High School.

    2) He resigned as MHS head girls basketball coach.

    3) He has taken a head basketball coaching job at Eagleton College & Career Academy.

I am out of the loop but I did carefully read the Daily Times article the day after Scott resigned as girls coach, paying special attention to who he mentioned and more importantly who he didn’t mention in his article quotes. IMO, that article indirectly shed some light on why he resigned as coach.

  10. Coach Eldridge is a great basketball coach and an all around great guy. He did a fantastic job at Maryville. I personally hate to see him step down but if he decided it is time to quit coaching, then he needed to do what he did. IMO, Wes Lambert is a great choice to succeed him. Wes has Maryville roots, head coaching experience, and will pour his heart and soul into doing the very best job he possibly can.

  11. Congrats to Oak Ridge HS alum Tee Higgins and the Cincinnati Bengals! As a lifelong Cincinnati Bengal fan, I am happy to say that Tee was fantastic today with over 100 receiving yards in the AFC championship game in KC.

Looking forward to the Super Bowl in LA. Also hoping Bengals can keep the core of Burrow, Chase, Higgins, and Mixon together for the next several years. Those guys are some bigtime NFL playmakers.

We looked pretty vanilla on D. I don’t know if it was by design or not, bet we never mixed it up or changed it up. I hope it was just the symptoms of a trap game.

It’s a brand new season but it was very similar to the Dobyns- Bennett quarterfinal game last year, imo. Last year it was a preview of bad things to come the following week. We will see what happens this Friday.

Instead of acting shocked lets do something, there is a plausible solution but the NRA and the Republican Party will not act.

I join you in prayer for the victims. You are a good person.

I am extremely saddened by the recent senseless shootings at or near Austin-East but these shootings are not the fault of the NRA nor the Republican Party.

You would be correct sir. Just like when I said the Wiseman move from a posh private school In Nashville to Memphis East was very “suspect” and should be looked into. There was no way that kids family could make that move by themselves. And guess what??? I was right in the end proven not by T$$AA but by the NCAA!  Too many kids transferring into this program all at once so If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

Correct. Penny did pay $11,500 for Wiseman’s family to move to Memphis from Nashville- that is not innuendo, slander, or a false accusation. That is a fact.

i Hope Maryville can sure up their front 7. idk how Oaklands runs the ball THIS YEAR but i know that they are usually athletic and physical AF up front. Maybe its different this year and idk if they have as good as OL as DB.  It was just a little odd seeing that from a Rebel Team

I’m betting that Oakland won’t run it on Maryville nearly as well as D-B did. Like many on here are saying, last night’s game was a good wake up call for Rebels plus Maryville has a great history of shutting down stud RB’s like James. Of course, every game is a new game so we will see.
