Doesn't mean anything, other than he's faced good shooters. He has had little to no game experience, and he will have to learn how to run the defense. Think about it...Most guys tend to shoot in the same spot each time, and it is fairly easy to pick up on that, so you can save it easier because you'll know where it's going when you see how they shoot.
  2. CBHS had a good overall defense, with the slides coming at the right time. Taylor was good, but not great. I was not too impressed with CBHS as a whole team though. They will probably be decent next year, but after a few lucky games both the players and the fans will think they are All-World, capable of beating everyone, only to be dominated 100% in the tournament.

You need more than atheletes to win state. This year McCallie won not with a bunch of big defensemen and middies that play running back, but with guys who focus on lacrosse 100%. We were by no means the biggest team in the tournament, but with teamwork and skill we won. It's going to take more than a year to start a decent program too.
  4. True, but it is still Gregor beating their man straight up. I don't know who does the stats for MUS, but we had one of our coaches with the stat book recording them throughout the game, with no other responsibilities.
  5. Anyone else notice that Gregor from McCallie isn't on the face-off team? In the games where he went head-to-head with these guys he had more face-offs won than lost, against Webb he was 12-2, against MBA he was 18-2, against MUS the first time he was 13-4, and in the finals he was 7-5. For the season, he was 124-52. He deserves more recognition than he got for a great season facing off.

    Sippin?

Most people in here are either from DI teams or only care about DI teams, because they are the best. Yea, there are good DII teams, but there aren't any that are consistently competitive with DI teams. Heart and pride do play a big role in a win or loss, but not more of one than skill. A skilled team DI that plays without caring or teamwork will beat almost all of the DII teams on most any day. I'm assuming that since you went 5-1 in DI play, that you'll be at McCallie next weekend for the semi's and finals...Stick around and watch MUS, McCallie, and the other teams play, and you'll see that the top DI teams are way beyond the top DII teams.

It seems to me that CBHS is setting themselves up for a big loss against Webb by focusing too much on the finals. True, CBHS has talent, but to say that they can compete with McCallie or MUS on a day to day basis is wrong. One or two close games with McCallie or MUS don't make you a great team. McCallie got beat by Westminster, but I think everyone here will agree that if they played again, McCallie would come out on top. Just because CBHS beat MUS and came close with McCallie doesn't mean they are equal teams. As far as who is going to be All-State, stats should have alot less to do with it than presence on the field, and who they put those numbers up against. To have a DI team beat 5 DII teams 20-2 or something like that inflates the stats, but it doesn't mean that you're a great player. McCallie has probably the toughest schedule in Tennessee, and our stats show it. We don't have a single player with more than 25 goals, we've only had one or two lopsided wins, and we've only played 11 games. In spite of this, we are 8-3 with our 3 losses coming during a period where we were down 3 d-poles and a middie, and had to reshape the team in order to play. Everyone knows that Gregor, Brafford, Jackson, Stevens, and Hughes are among the top players in the state, but if you looked at stats you would think that they were mediocre at best.

    MUS 9 CBHS 6

I'm going to chime in on this with a couple of things I saw in the CBHS-McCallie game. #28 for CBHS should have been kicked out of the game, or at the least penalized more than once for unsportsmanlike conduct. While he was on the crease (offense), he attempted to hit #2 for McCallie in the family jewels with the end of his stick, multiple times. He was called for this, and as soon as he got back on the field, he did the same thing again, this time to #7 for McCallie. Ball went down near them, and instead of going for the ball, he went right at #7, hitting him repeatedly across the chest (not a cross check, but close). #7 pushed back once, and then dropped it, but #28 kept trying to start a fight. I know there was an exchange of words, but that outbreak was still uncalled for. No flag thrown at this either, although it went on for ~5 seconds. The final thing I saw #28 do that was dirty, and just plain stupid, was KICK #9 in the chest while Penn (#9) was on the ground. It was in the open, and everyone saw it, and there was no flag thrown. It wasn't an accident either, as Penn's body moved about a foot when the guy kicked him. In our (McCallie) game against MUS, they (and us, for the most part) played a fairly clean game, but there was still a clear bias against us. The ref bias in the CBHS game was much more evident, and I'm going to say that it is not a stretch at all that the refs were extremely biased towards CBHS, especially since it is such a heated rivalry.
