1. When I first began hearing that Coach Darden's job was in jeopardy I prayed that the outcome would be whatever was best for him. I truly believe that is what happened. God has something better planned for him! I was once fired from a job and am eternally grateful.

  2. I can't agree more, IrishBBall. I was disappointed with the display of classlessness by Oak Hill. They are a tremendous group of athletes, but I could not believe the lack of discipline the Oak Hill players displayed. A few years ago, I attended a Mater Dei game in LA (the number one ranked team thie year) and saw a team that was fundementally sound, stacked with great athletes (Duke, NC type of players), ran a great system, respected the opponent they beat by over 30 points, and behaved with real class. This is what I was expecting to see last night. Frankly, I would never pay to see this team again.

BTW, Simpson had a great game as well as Craig. Demonte and Dustin both had a lot to deal with inside against the giant inside, and they did a very good job.

Speaking of "classlessness", what about the UT players that stood along the rail in the upper deck blocking the view of people who had waited in their seats for three hours before gametime. I was really disappointed that they obviously thought that they were so special that they did not owe the fans this common courtesy.

  3. Is Farragut's point guard playing? I know he had missed a game or two earlier in the year against Science Hill and maybe Alcoa. And Bearden seems to have a very big weakness at point guard. Look for Farragut to exploit this area.

Who does Bearden have at point guard?

  4. Why would signability be a factor with Adkins and Gant? Are you saying because they signed with UTK they are hard to sign?

The bottom line is $$$$$. Every kid has a price. The ones that think education and further development are more important than signing now put that price at very high level. It is up to the major league scouting bureau and the individual team scouts to determine this prior to wasting a draft pick on them.

  5. A fun way to get back at them, if they allow it, is to bring outside food and drinks to the game.

They don't allow it. I paid $3.50 for a coke at the track stadium and took it outside with me to the tent area when I went to check on my son who had just finished a race. When I tried to come back in the stadium, I was forced to throw my drink in the trash can and was told that I would just have to buy another one. Ronnie Carter and the TSSAA organization has become a monster with a life of its own and is totally out of control. Those officials that the schools send to the meetings do not have the ability or the desire to control the organization. I was told by my local state representative (I mean as in state government) that the TSSAA is a "cult" and that it would be easier for the state legislature to sell the dome off the state capital building than to exert any influence over the TSSAA. I guess this makes Ronnie Carter one of the greatest cult leaders of our time. The TSSAA needs oversight from the state government, but our state board of education has relinquished the responsibility and potential liability and given the TSSAA free reign to run out of control saying that it is a "private organization". What this "private organization" needs is competition. If a few of the larger school districts got together and started their own organization the others would follow. But it won't happen. It''s unbelieveable to me that even after the TSSAA basically kicked the private schools out of the organization (by putting them in division II) they still pay dues and support the organization.

  6. Dude don't even act like Pheiffer isn't cocky. The kid is a heck of a pitcher, but his head is way too big for a freshman. Look at senior pitchers who are really good on other teams, they don't do anything like what Pheiffer does. During the Bearden game, Pheiffer turned to the dugout and told them to "shhh" and then started clapping his glove at them. After the game, he says "hey bearden" and sticks up a "L" for a loss. The kid is a great pitcher, don't get me wrong, but if he keeps acting the way he does, he'll get put in his place one day.

The last time he pitched against Bearden in the district tournament, he was knocked out of the game in the first or second inning and got the big "L" for himself (6-5). It didn't take long for him to get put in his place.

  7. Having seen both Farragut and Science Hill a couple of times this year, I went over to their game on Friday. I had seen Oak Ridge and Science Hill the weekend before at Oak Ridge along with a scout buddy of mine. We went to watch Oak Ridge but came away real impressed with SH and the Anderson kid who threw for them. He totally dominated a good Oak Ridge team. It was one of the best mound performances we have seen this season. SH was very impressive and very sound. SH clearly did not play at the same level against Farragut either at the plate or in the field. It was also very evident that for whatever reason, Anderson did not have anywhere near his normal velocity or command that we saw against Oak Ridge. Farragut did deserve to win that game on Friday. However, after seeing SH and Anderson a couple of other times this year, I am pretty certain you will see a much better team and individual performance if the two meet again. Both are very good teams and both well coached. It would not surprise me if both teams make the state and if they do, both could do some damage down there. I hope they don't have to play each other to get to the state because from what I have been told and seen, they appear to both be worthy of state appearances as the two best teams from east Tenn. Both are fun to watch.

Why are they the best two teams? Bearden has beaten Science Hill twice this year.

  8. The difference in scoring was at the guard position, yes. But the difference in the game was on the defensive end. Bearden gambled at the wrong times and was undisciplined on defense. They were poor against the drive and the high screen. DB was all over the place, using quick hands like Tennessee does to create turnovers and fast break opportunities. It's hard to win a game of that calibur when you're not a very good outside shooting team, and you let the other team score 70 points. DB played together more as a team and beat a more talented team in Bearden. Good luck at state.

The sad thing for Bearden was that they are a good outside shooting team but their last two games blevins did not allow them to shoot threes. As a matter of fact, Parker was sent to the dressing room for most of the first half for taking a three point shot. The beauty of Bearden's offense the entire year was the ability of the Big men, except Simpson, to step out and shoot the three. this forced the defense to come out and freed up Simpson from three defenders cheating down on him. Also Bearden has two senior subs who shoot lights out from three. The point guard's only role has been to bring the ball up the floor and initiate the offense. Jenkins is the other guard and he only tried to take the ball inside. Blevins subbed in two freshmen who had had no real playing time to rest the point guard resulting in immediate turnovers. He had a junior and senior point guard on the bench who had valuable big game experience. Blevins attempts to motivate by intimidation and belittling his players. During last night's game, some of the Bearden players were afraid to do anything. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. As someone said earlier in the season, " If Bearden doesn't make it to the state this year there can only be one reason"

  9. Wow. First off go Smyrna! They tried their best to give this game away. Did coach Shadowens learn nothing from Bobby Johnson and Vanderbilt two weeks ago when they smashed UT in the mouth for 3 quarters before getting too conservative and blowing a 15 point lead? Smyrna had only ONE first down after the 7:00 mark in the SECOND quarter. Rod Wilkes could have taken a slant route to the house on numerous occasions, but NO they run the ball. To top it off, they decide to run the prevent defense at the end at it almost cost them dearly. When will coordinators realize that all the prevent defense does is prevent you from winning. In regards to the officiating, it was horrible on both sides. Bearden was clearly holding players on their two scoring drives including taking a few defensive linemen to the ground. On the second onsides kick, the smyrna player goes up for the high bouncing kick and snatches it out of midair. He comes down face first and the ground knocks the ball out. It was clear as day. The ground cannot cause a fumble. In response to duh! c, only losers whine about the officiating, winners find a way to overcome those calls and pull out a win. I am sure that a thread has already started about how Smyrna is no match for Independence, but I sure like their chances. GO DAWGS.

The ground cannot cause a fumble if you still have the ball when you hit the ground. I was on the sideline and clearly saw the ball come out before he hit the ground. Also there were at least two press photographers who have CLEAR pictures of this. Check your local news. Good luck to Smyrna in the finals. Smyrna is a class act and I'm sure there are those on the football team who would have rather seen it played out with the correct call than have it end this way.

  10. Ok first off I'll let yall know that I do go to Bearden and maybe have maroon-tinted glasses on, but IMHO this is the best Bearden team I have seen in a while (yes better than Tony White's SR. year). We have a 6'8 big man that no one can stop (Demonte Simpson) and then there is no true other post. Blake Jenkins (6'6) plays outside for us and guards the other teams guards and believe me he is very quick. He has a body frame like Kevin Durant, tall and lanky and can play outside. I will agree that the one weak spot is at PG, but Andy Fennel has played varsity for 4 years and has very good instincts and can shoot, but isn't much of a driver. Then we have Dustin Craig who is also a D1 prospect along with Demonte and Blake and Dustin is very good at driving and dishing. The player to watch thought is someone no has heard about..NATE PARKER. He might be the most athletic player we have and he can jump outta the gym! Maryville and Farragut may have good guards, but tell me how you get shots off on guys who are 6'6 and 6'5 playing outside. I'm telling you this team is special and anything less than a state champ. will be very disappointing. The word going around is that Douglas isn't playing this year b/c he is having surgery on his shoulder. Idk if it's not true, but thats what I've heard at BHS.

Maryville coach this week said that Douglas is not having surgery and is good to go after football.

  11. I don't feel that it's handling pressure that will be the problem. Neither Farragut or Maryville are huge full court pressure defensive teams. I was referring to knocking down big shots consistently from the perimeter, taking care of the ball and running half court offenses. I don't know that the Bearden guards (or any other ET teams) can outshoot Damron, Lambert, Click, Abraham, Hundley, Phillips, etc. from the 3 point line. That makes the inside games of Farragut and Maryville much more effective. It would be much easier to double the Bearden posts without the threat of raining 3s like the other 2 teams.

You might want to refer back to the Bearden-Maryville tournament game last year when Maryville was down by 15 or more in the first half using that strategy.

  12. They are appealing and the hearing will be heard thursday or friday. Email and call the TSSAA to pressure them into letting Sonny play.

I have appealed a TSSAA decision before. The process is a joke. No chance of success. The arrogance is amazing.

  13. i can think of three off the top of my head that were selected for the team, the two from baylor and a pitcher from farragut. im sure there were at least a few more....or is eastern tennessee located in one small city im not aware of?

I didn't realize that there were two players from one team. Isn't one of the Baylor kids a recent transplant from Memphis? There was one more from Johnson City on the team. I really don't think the "one small city" comment was necessary.

  14. QUOTE(7inningparadise @ May 14 2007 - 09:41 AM) 826458826Justin Miller (Bearden) Offensive player of the year

    Also from Bearden:

    Bryant Walker

    Jonathan Byrd

    Dawson Halliday

    Andy Fennell

  15. QUOTE(HB2021 @ Mar 28 2007 - 08:07 PM) 826425320Bearden loses to WB. Fennell pitched for the Dogs while McGill pitched for WB. Late in the game the score was tied when WB puts 4 on the board. WB's coach was ejected.

The score was 2-2 when Fennell left in the 6th and 5-5 when mcgill left in the bottom of the 6th. Good pitching by both in a rainy game. What is Pueleo's problem? Why get tossed from the game over a checked swing call?
