As far as I am concerned Franklin should have moved up last year to D1. They may do alright. In case anyone forgot Ravenwood won State last year. Smyrna completely Demolishing Indy is old news. However, if you think independance has more talent than smyrna did, you are mistaken. First off We have a Mr.Football WR who has already commited to UT vols. Second off Sonny Gray wasn't even that great against INDY. A FRESHMAN WON OFFENSIVE MVP. Didn't say indy had more talent than symrna. Just as much talent as smyrna! Mr. Football WR congrats to him. Never really cared too much for the Mr. Football stuff. I think alot of good people get overlooked. So what if he signed with UT. He will probably be on practice squad for awhile. Not a UT fan at ALL. Hopefully he will get an education out of the deal at the least. Think MVP awards are over-rated. Let's see how many of these athletes go on to the next level.......

Congrats to smyrna on the win. I think Independence gave the game away with turnovers. Don't think Smyrna is the better team as far as talent goes. They played better on this particular night. That's the way it is. Don't forget there is no I in team. Bet the team gets a little tired of hearing how great Sonny Grey is. He is a good athlete for sure but not the best I have ever seen. Someone wins someone loses welcome to football. CHS keep trying. Play as a team and never give up. Ravenwood is a decent team even though most of the athletes graduated in 07 but they still seem to be playing as a team. Good luck to all the teams it will be really interesting to see who plays for title this year.

[Top star is an awesome camp with tons of recruiters. My son received several offers to play at the next level but decided to accept a football scholarship. He made the fabulous 40 top all stars at the top star camp. Really recommend it for sure.

I bet she (suzanne baird) cannot beleive they used her name. If I had done something like that my sons would be so mad at me for stirring up a hornets nest like she did. I bet the other parents are not too happy about it either. I get the idea they are just laying low waiting for it to blow over they are not on here much anymore and I cant blame them there is nothing they can say to make it right. Mrs. Baird and other parents were too quick to call out the kids when they should have been calling out their own bunch of little thugs. And just wait until next season its going to get all started again and the Raptors are probably going to get a heavy dose of medicine this will put a huge target on their backs and they better grow some very thick skin between now and August because I am thinking they will need it.

She and the rest of us saw behavior unbefitting State Champions. She had the balls to speak her mind after the paper contacted her. I'd say the mother calling the paper to complain is pretty classless. I bet Coach Rector is pretty embarrassed about that one. He didn't sound like (in the paper) that he wanted anything to do with any of this. Good post CHS.

Just a note the mother didn't call the paper the paper called her. That is a fact. Last time I checked this is America where a mother or whomever can say what they want within reason in print. Quit dogging on her for telling the truth. I am just as sick of this whole thing as CHS. Alot of people who post need to grow up and figure out what is really important in life. Half of the people on here will never play football after high school. So why don't you just enjoy the luxury of having an open forum and discuss things that really matter. as my grandmother used to say: If you don't have anything nice to say keep your mouth shut.

I know this one is destined for a closed topic discussion, but it has to be brought back up after the show in The Tennessean today.

 

The Dave Chappelle's player hater's ball has just broken out against Smyrna. This is absolutely amazing. I just can't believe that a team mom would say that its the "worst thing she's ever seen in sports". This is almost comical from my end. She may need to get out a little bit more, or at least hang out for about 10 minutes in her own Raptor student section. This almost reaks of the "we didn't win, but I always get my way" kind of thing. I'm on record as saying that I could have done without what Smyrna's kids did immediately after the game, because I have a lot of respect for Ravenwood's players and coaches and actions like that from afar make it seem like you don't. I know that's not the case because Smyrna's players and coaches actually admire what Ravenwood has accomplished in a short period of time. However, those little "ANGELS" in the Raptor student section have a big role in this, dating back to September 30th. You all can pile on JC all you want, but it takes two to tango, as they say, and they are not without blame.

 

People on the outside have no idea how close the first Ravenwood game and postgame incident came to ruining what ended up being a state championship run for the Bulldogs. There is no way that Smyrna wins the Ship without the kid who's football future was put on ice after that windy night in Smyrna. Now, he was DEAD WRONG in how he handled things that night, but he's a high-strung, competitive guy, and you live and learn. People know that I played a little ball back in the day and I will pay this kid the ultimate compliment, I would have absolutely LOVED to play alongside a guy like JC. You have to remember, we are dealing with 15-18 year old kids and they don't always make the best decisions at a beckon call. If they feel like they've been wronged, they will practice the eye-for-an-eye thing at the drop of a hat. Trust me, the little acknowledgement to the crowd was several months of frustration coming out. That kid is as well liked as anyone on that Smyrna team and his guys had his back, starting with a team vote just to have him reinstated. That was a vindication moment for all of those kids, as well as a championship one.

 

This sounds like sour grapes to me. Trust me, I am going to write Jeff Lockridge an e-mail (he's a very good guy) and stand up (somewhat....I reiterate that I could have done with the celebration) for the Smyrna guys. As a guy who is older than the players, but young enough to still put myself in their shoes, I realize this was a Newton's Third Law moment. I NEVER in a million years would have thought I'd say this, but Ravenwood fans have stooped lower than their neighbor Bruins on arrogance. And Raptor fans, take some advice for future reference "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

In my opinion, if any players ran to the other sideline before, during or after the game, for any reason, it shows that a coach and his staff are not in control of his zoo.

 

There is no reason to be there period. The T$$AA should fine the program and coachs involved. Sad commentary IMO it should have not have happended.

As I am sure you played a little ball in your day, I have been around football almost all of my life including the pros. I was there on game night and certainly thought SOME not all of the Smyrna players went way to far. Being 17 or 18 does not excuse wrong behavior. As I am sure you know kids that age are tried as adults in a court of law. I don't care how excited you are you conduct yourself in a manner that reflects positively on your self, your upbringing and your school! And might I remind you you always meet in the middle of the field as a team to shake hands period.... That did not happen. Bottom line it was disrespectful and certainly did not make Smyrna look good in the eyes of Ravenwood. I think maybe the pro's are a little to blame what with the antics nowdays. You should be careful who you choose to emulate. Quit frankly I am sick and tired of this topic. Smryna won the game no denying that. TRhey played a great game Ravenwood did not. However; wouldn't it have been nice to be a State Champion and also have everyones respect.

I've been thinking, it really doesn't matter what the Ravenwood fans write about our boys. We all know them. I've known mine since I gave birth to him. Most of the football team has eaten my food and has slept in my house at one point. Whenever I moved into my new house, I just asked for help, so many of them helped us move for just a bag of Krystals. Our boys just won STATE. This is not the first time our boys have tasted victory. In middle school, they dominated in football and now the cycle is just repeating itself. These boys are special in everyway because they know how to win. They love each other. They have been through so much together. No one will ever see a football boy in the community without another football boy by his side. No comment on an anonymous forum can ever change who our boys really are and how much respect that I have for them and the community that knows and loves them has for them.

Most boys on a football team love one another, and I believe both teams know how to win. Some of the Smryna team DID NOT handle themselves with class. Bottom Line. As far as dominating in middle school did'nt get that memo. But middle school has nothing to do with now. The community here has respect for the Ravenwood team and their players, knowing they will act accordingly!

The Bulldogs are the State Champions for this year. No one is disputing that fact. When you are State Champions you should act like it. You did'nt last night. Your players running to our fan section and pointing at their butts and yelling kiss my --- is ridiculous! Handing out your state hats on our side of the field unbelievable. I don't begruge your win just the manner in which some of your team acted. You can win a State Championship for sure but you either have class or you don't. The Ravenwood Team has CLASS. I also thought some of the calls were questionable. But truth be told Smryna outplayed us last night. However; I still believe Ravenwood has the best athletes on any football team. Hold your heads up Ravenwood you have nothing to be ashamed of! Great year for Laidlaw, Ayers, Presley, Ford, Barnes, Thompson, Witherspoon, Snoyobos, Heaberlin, Emkes, and the rest of the team!!!!!!!!!

Don't quite know why you are a Cleckner hater, he is a great guy and an even better athlete. Maybe he's flying beneath the radar for a reason. You are preaching to the choir as far as bad officiating because Ravenwood has had their share of bad calls. Ravenwood will also be more than ready for Smyrna!!!

Then there is also the newest Air Force fighter jet, the F-22 "Raptor". I bet Ravenwood wishes it's RBs could go into 'afterburner' also.

Just thought I would let you know that our players are more than capable of afterburner mode. What with Ravenwood fans having so much money according to some here maybe I'll buy one of the F22 for our runningback!!!

I was just reading some of the stupid comments on this topic. Grow up people it doesn't matter where your from or how much money you have. You seem to FORGET that this a football game to be played by two very good teams. Leave the rest of the bs out of it. We will see who wins on Saturday. Carefull that revenge doesn't bite you in the end!!!!!! I am a die hard Raptor fan and I think they have awesome athletes, great fans and a whole heck of a lot of heart. So we shall see............

I have never predicted the winner of a game, as I have always said it is pretty much up to whichever team brings their A game to the field. I wish both teams the best of luck. It's great for both teams to be on the field Saturday. Don't know if people know it or not but cousins will be on opposite sides of the ball. Laidlaw from RHS and Craig from Smyrna and step cousin Gray from Smyrna. Should be a great game. Hope all the players realize what an honor it is. Praying they have a safe, injury free game and may the best team on Saturday night win.

Ok but to not have Adam Presley, OLB for Ravenwood on there, starter since a sophmore, having a great year, but you have Issac Baugh in there for both WR and Db. Ok personally i thought he was the most overratted receiver i have seen all year, but then again they had not too good of a night when they player us. So, ok ill give him at least one, WR, but you cannot give him both DB and WR. All him and Darneel did as corners was line up and run with the guy you are covering. Purley offensive player. Him and Darnell may have the stats to be on there, but trust me there are better receviers. But again i only saw one game so i may be completly wrong.

 

 

Adam Presley is a great athlete, he should hands down be on the list!!!!!!
