    any predictions on the tourny?

  2. Congrats to G'ville for Friday's game against CCHS. If you were not there, do not be deceived by an 8 point game. We were soundly and throughly beaten. If not, for some unexpected good outside shooting from the Lady Red, this would have been a 20 point loss. While I don't have a stat sheet in front of me, these are the numbers I heard. 3 assists, no baskets made and only a few attempted inside 6-7 feet and out rebounded 36-15. We were out muscled, out hustled and out played. We played with little desire. Very, very disappointing game. I posted 3 things had to happen to win: rebound and not give up second chance points - maybe half of Nicole's points were second chance points - she alone equaled our rebound total. We had to hold Nicole under 25 - she had 29. We had to make shots. On the outside we did, but didn't make anything underneath. My confidence is a bit shaken, b/c this team has played hard from game 1, but did not at all Friday. We played with the mood that we have been in. Didn't play well at Cherokee, starters until the end of the game. Didn't play well against G'ville.

Hopefully, the attention will get off the "I" and back on Wade and "the team." If ever there was some Nikki Anoiskie Senior Leadership needed, now is the time.

Don't quite agree that we are down to a one game season, yet. Remember, these seniors girls were a 1 win team as Freshmen and won the play-in game against a very good Jeff Co team - the Kyle girl's (at Carson Newman)senior season. So anything can happen. But I do totally agree, if we are facing the rubber game against G'ville, it will be a season making/breaking game - b/c we have gone on the road for the Regional 1st game the last two years and played well and lost. And it appears that the top end of District 1 is getting stronger.

I also want to say that in watching G'ville play the past 4-5 years and having seen them 4-5 times this year, I have always thought that they played hard w/o alot of emotion - almost like robots, like they expected to win and everyone to roll over. That was not the case on Friday night. They displayed lots of emotions, high fives and laughter - very much like a team. Very supportive of each other. I really like that very much. On the other hand, maybe they were too emotional and thus the lost the next night - I don't know.

To briefly shift gears, on Monday night, the Lady Red will say thank you and good bye to 3 seniors - Alex Suggs, Courtney Lewis and Kelsey Lloyd. In the 4th grade, these 3 helped win a rec league championship; in the 5th grade, with the help of Megan Cleavenger (South Greene and now Mars Hill), I don't think they lost on the 5-6 grade team at Newport Grammar; in the 6th grade, Shannon and Morgan joined forces with these 3 to have another great season on the 5th-6th grade team. In the 7th grade on the 7th-8th grade team, they lost 3 games in the County Elementary league - all 3 to M. Cleavenger's Bridgeport team. The next year at NGS, with Shannon and Morgan, they had a 21-0 season and won the County championship game by 45 points and the best games that year were the two scrimmages with Nicole and GMS. We were so strong that year, the county kicked out Newport Grammar which allowed Shannon and Morgan and Nicole Ball and Jayla Lane's 8th grade team to win the Small Middle School District and Sub-Regional championships. Alex and Courtney made the Varsity team as freshmen at the beginning of the year, and Kelsey would join them by Christmas - all became starters during the year. They won 2 games that year and have been mainstays on the Lady Red since winning 18 games each of the past two years. This week Valedictorians were announced and this year there are 3 at CCHS - Alex and Kelsey are two of them and I think Courtney will be in the Top Ten. Courtney has some desires about continuing to play basketball and Kelsey, providing her complete recovery from ACL surgery, has settled in on playing soccer which will be announced soon.

I have 2 sons on either side of Kelsey who have played sports on all levels through college. There has been a joy to be with my boys and their endeavors. But there is something very special that daddies get to share with their girls on the athletic fields. From tears of joy over winning and celebrating to tears of sadness over losing and injury; from the hours of kicking soccer balls, traveling all over East TN or just rebounding free throws; from the endless lessons of strategy and sportsmanship, to just enjoying being with your daughter on a ball field and being grateful that through sports in a difficult age and transition in her life, she allows me to be part of her life. Just the hours spent in a car driving back from a game and conversing about the game and life, is just special times. Playing ball was fun, being a parent of one who plays ball, is so much more. It has never been about wins and losses, just play hard, do your best and have fun. We may or may not make that ultimate goal of getting to M'boro, but what an incredible ride it has been for me. Thanks, sissy, for letting those bonds run deeper and for letting me in your life at such a wonderful time in your life. What a joy! A toast to Ricky Suggs and Gary Lewis who have shared these years together with me and our three girls. We three will be the emotional ones on the court tomorrow night.

However, the season is not over and it is time for our girls to show some leadership - all three of them.

Sorry for the very long post.

Good post! I was two years ahead of them in school, but I've enjoyed watching them play basketball since NGS. They've always worked hard and played together. Gonna miss watching them play for CCHS. Best of luck to all three in what they do after high school. Think Courtney is going to try and play on after high school like you said. Playin athletics is a special time, and the memories last forever know matter the outcomes on the field or court. Teach many valuable life lessons as well.

The Lady Red have been playing off for weeks now. Don't know if it's just a slump or there are issues within the team or what?? They need to pull it together this week because conference tournaments are on the way. They have a very special chance of making it to a possible sub-state appearance at least. This will probably be one of the best teams CCHS will have because these girls have been playing together for years. Hope they pull it together and make a run at it. West, GHS, and CCHS should make for a great conference tournament.

  3. they can list their players all they want but the tallest guy that steps on the floor for them is maybe 6'3 they also have another kid that gets limited playing time that is 6'2 it doesnt matter the size they have on the team but what goes on the court and after those two there is noone with any size

Finally some closure to this issue lol!

  4. My gosh we're making a bit of an issue out of nothing aren't we? Let's just all calm down here. Hahaha.

Ha ha yea West does have a small team though. CCHS post players actually looked good against them. Who all plays this week?

  5. They lied! Ask CCHS2 Dockery is no way 6'5. & their is not one player on West team taller than Huffhine's or Dockery!!

Yea Ray gets a lil carried away with the substitutions. Wasn't really a threat of being a close game so that might have played into last night's choice of substituting so much. Everybody lies on their heights and weights for the media things. Barry and Hunter probably like 6'3 or 6'4. The West guys are all smaller than Barry and Hunter. Need to take an inch of two off of what most people list themselves as. I always gave myself 5'11...I'm not 5'11 lol.

  6. I think Haney will be better when he becomes a complete player. Yes he can score at times but he can also shoot you out of a game at times. He has played in 16 games this year and has only 1 assist. I think Ottinger has been clutch since coming back from his injury. He has made some big baskets and pressure free throws in the last 2 games. But to be sucessful Stewart has to be scoring. I hope coach Evans cuts the rotation to a least 9 and give these boys a chance to win it again this year.

Seems like you know the team pretty good. How many games have you watched? Haney just looks for his shot and will throw it up almost everytime. He can help the zone out on defense some. Luke coming back has been big. He is always calm on the court and he can shoot, drive, and pass. Luke and Marcus are going to be the two guards on the court more than likely at the end of the games. Marcus usually holds off on shooting until the late third quarter and fourth quarter. He tried to put the team on his back again at East, but the shots weren't falling and he was forcing the issue which hurt the team badly down the stretch. He is still the go to guy hands down however, just had a bad quarter.

  7. A little observation on the Cocke County team. They have had to battle back most of the year to win their games. The coach plays 12 -13 players in the first half and then cuts that down to 8 or 9 players in the second half. If he dosen't cut that rotation down to 8 or 9 for the entire game the Fighting Cocks will not go far come tourney time. It may work against weaker teams but these boys can't battle back from 15 pt deficient's ever night. From the looks of things it should be Stewart, Glenn, Ottinger, Dockery and Ball on the floor when the game is on the line.

Yep Ray likes to start his five then sub in a whole new five in the first quarter sometimes. All the subs could be the reason they are winning the game in the fourth quarter though. Just another way you could look at it. I would feel comfortable with that lineup on the floor for CCHS. Think thats who they went with to comeback against West the other night. Ottinger has missed time with injury this year. I would start with Regan, Stewart, Glenn, Ball, and Dockery then make Ottinger the first guard sub off the bench with Haney and James coming in at the wings and posts. Carmichael needs some PT as well. This keeps it to 8 or 9 players anyway.

  8. What are everybody's thoughts on the games this Friday?

    Morristown West hosts Greeneville

First time was exciting, down to the wire at Greeneville. This time, with the game at West, it's not as close. The Lady Trojans are playing terrific basketball right now, and Taylor Hall has stepped her game up since their only loss of the season. Nicole Dickson gets her points every time out, and Friday will be no exception. I just don't think that she has enough help on the road to get Greeneville a win. MoWest by 10.

    Cherokee at Jefferson County

The Lady Chiefs are still struggling to find their identity with a young squad. JCHS has been a streaky team thus far, but Haley Nelson seems to be putting together a solid run going towards the tournament. Cherokee has struggled all season on the road, and the Lady Pats are tough at home. JCHS by 14.

    Cocke County at East

The Lady Red rebounded from the home loss to West with a lopsided win at home over Grainger. East has to be the most difficult team to predict. With the game in Morristown, can East come up with enough magic like they have lately to win a game they probably shouldn't? I say no, but it will be close. CCHS by 7.

How does everybody else see these games turning out?

I'd have to go with West over Greeneville by a 5-12 range, Jeff over Cherokee, and CCHS over East. CCHS may play sloppy and just win by several points though.

  9. Great thread to start and nice research to develop it TCSF! In looking at the info I notice 3 points: most impressive win Central over Cocke Co. by 13, East winning against 2 different teams by large margins, no fix on Mo. East as they haven't played any Big9 teams. It would be easy for a Big 9 fan to feel like our league is stronger this year, but The Hurricanes haven't shown us their stuff yet. This year could be one of the more exciting district and regional tourneys in recent memory. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

I would definitely give the edge to region 1 in the boys. Science Hill, DB, and Central are three good teams that I think would be the favorites over the Easts, Cocke Countys, and the Greenevilles from the IMAC. Don't think anybody is going to beat Science Hill or DB from region 2.

  10. This week's AP Poll is out. Morristown West continues its climb, nearing the top spot...

    Class AAA

    Record Pts Prv

    1. Memphis Central (8) 15-1 145 1

    2. Morristown West (6) 18-1 143 3

    3. Hillsboro (1) 15-1 135 2

    4. Oak Ridge (1) 16-2 124 4

    5. Wilson Central 15-3 104 6

    6. Millington (1) 19-2 93 7

    7. Mt. Juliet 16-2 61 5

    8. White Station 17-2 41 9

    9. Clarksville (1) 17-1 36 -

    10. Walker Valley 19-2 22 -

Others receiving 12 or more points: Cocke County 20, White County 19, Riverdale 15.

West is a very talented team..Hall is a great player and she has a solid Pg and 3 pt shooters to go with her. Very dangerous and difficult team to contented with. They also play really good defense. CCHS can beat West if they cut down on the turnovers, hit their easy shots beside the basket, and act like they know how to play offense without Buda or Alex trying to drive it in. CCHS has three solid post players who need to step it up if this team is going to make noise in the conference tournament and possibly the state tournament. West is going to beat CCHS a majority of the times because they are just simply more talented and athletic. IF CCHS executed we could beat them though.

Officiating is terrible in the IMAC. It's been bad in basically every game I've watched. Nothing is going to change about that apparently, so teams will just have to outplay the other team and the refs to make sure they win games.

  11. Just a note...

I know everyone in the conference knows of Wade Wester's promotions at Cocke County - ranging from the crazy to the free-food types.

However, Friday night... He's got a good one on a serious note.

It's Breast Cancer Awareness night. The team is dressing in white/pink uniforms. All Cancer survivors will be honored before the game in a ceremony. I believe some proceeds will also be donated.

Wade's mother herself is a survivor, so it's near to his heart.

Great promotion for a great cause. Most everybody knows someone close that has been affected by cancer. Girls will be very excited for this game. Should be a loud and packed house much like last Friday!

  12. Well your right... and the more and more I hear about it from people who still live in Newport, it probably was "control" and "professional jealousy."

I had school board members lie to parents and turn their backs on me. No one in that county will stand up for the kids and why should a few parents and even myself (even though I lived in Charlotte, NC!).

It's just like the case 3 weeks ago when some of these "coaches" used a personal friend of mine to relay a message to me. They have my number, they can call, or they can come on here and answer the posts, statements, or what not. Truth hurts and again, a few of Cosby's coaches have replied on here, but when it comes to CCHS coaches.... nothing but tumbleweeds there. Spare me the "we aint getting dragged into some game" deal. The coaches at that school hate me. Why? I have no idea other than I held their players more accountable and worked kids harder than they did. These coaches have never had the stones to EVER talk to me professionally... EVER! I tried to offer my services, advise, and professional knowledge and they chose to decline. I'm fine with it. Thats their call and I moved on, simple as that. They (CCHS FB) wanted to do things... "the old way"... and thats their choice. Well the "old way" or "old system" got you ZERO wins with the same team you returned with a more basic offensive terminology/execution (spread passing offense vs. basic I-formation/2 back set). I am done with this back and forth nonsense. I will reply to any questions on this thread if anyone askes them, but I am done whipping this already dead horse, or rooster I should say.

Finally, I will say this... Good luck CCHS... with the new league and new TSSAA system, your going to need it!

Looks like CCHS is really working pretty hard this offseason. They have workout logs, diet plans, and are keeping up with progress in lifts as well as running. Glad to see effort being put into the offseason program. Work hard guys and try to be competitive out there by playing and working hard.

  13. That was me!!! I said that they won my "scappy team" of the tourny award!! I went on to say that they had impressed me the most of any team I watched, never dreaming they would beat us. I'll never do that again-lesson learned!

    /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

West could have kind of like an on/off scenarion against south greene and CCHS. It's gonna be two hard games in two nights. One night the shots may fall and the other night they may not. They could play sloppy against South Greene then come out on fire against CCHS or vice versa. I don't think the Lady Red are gonna sit on the Greeneville win because they are good at avenging their losses or bad play in a game. They will be focused on this Morristown West game because they lost by double digits earlier this season, similiar to the Science Hill loss perharps. West is a very good and deep team so CCHS will have to find help off the bench and a third scorer to go with Buda and Depew whether its Courtney, Alex, Jaleese, or Allie.

  14. Great work TCSF! I hope this thread will take off so we Big 9 fans can keep up with potential play-off match-ups. After so many dismal football teams recently and so much Greeneville dominance in basketball, I believe I'm adopting Cocke Co. as my sentimental favorite. Go Cocks! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

    Appreciate the support

Good bunch of kids that have worked hard to make CCHS a good basketball team in boys and girls..We can win conference in both. Glad we finally have a winning sport around here again

  15. congrats to cocke co. on beating greeneville!! great bunch of players and super parents. ashame kelsey is out because not only is she a great kid but she would have helped this team.

Big game friday night between West and CCHS...pink jerseys are coming out and its homecoming it's gonna be a packed loud house for the game between number one and two

West has a battle with very tough South Greene before they come into CCHS and we don't play until Friday so we should be the fresher team

Great physical game between CCHS and GHS.. I didnt see any one sided officiating we had fould trouble too...The IMAC refs are just bad..watched sever games over the school break and all the offiiciating was bad..JCHS and CCHS was worse that the GHS game

  16. Greeneville over Cherokee 55-30

I'm not sure I would call CCHS overrrate when they already have wins over Science Hill and DB away from home. I didn't watch the Mo West and CCHS game, but from what I have heard Mo West was just deep and athletic. Seems like they kept about a 10 point lead throughout. CCHS also has more than two players that are good. The starting 5 are all more than capable players. Pretty sure almost all of them flirt with scoring double digits every game. Seems like Mo West is the frontrunner with GHS and CCHS battling for second right now.

  17. How will the new classification work for Cocke County? Hopefully it will give them a chance to win more games and build more confidence with the kids in the program. I hope Cocke Co. will get on track. Word is that they lose a ton of seniors off of the team. I hear that one football senior is happy to be back in basketball and his father agrees. They said it will be very hard for the football program next year, so hopefully the coaches can get more people out and also keep them involved and fired up.

I also want to thank "WPFAST" for taking the time to answer some of my questions and rumors that I have heard. I am sure there are more sides to the story. WPFAST, thank you again for the information you personally sent to me. We will definately use the workouts and suggestiuons in our offseason programs. The plyometric section and speed workouts are phenomial! You seem to be a class act and thanks again for helping our program. I simply cannot understand why Cocke County High School and even the school board would not want someone with your professional experience involved or even to be used as an advisor. That is what I cannot understand. If your ever up near Chattanooga, please come see us and thanks for taking your time to help!

The new classifications actually make it harder on CCHS to have any success. Seymour, Sevier, and Jeff come into the conference while Volunteer, Crockett, and Greeneville go out. Take Volunteer and Crockett out which can be wins and replace them with Seymour and Sevier which is more likely to be two losses. They lose the whole team basically. Probably gonna be rough times ahead. I'd be glad to be in basketball too, it feels better to win that lose. IDK why they didnt welcome Parker in, my guess is control and jealousy. Just a guess tho.

  18. No problem! The hoopgirlz site and espn have merged and its a great site to keep up with.

I agree....but its not just the Imac thats being overlooked... I think East Tn as a whole is overlooked by state and national media even tho West and Middle tn AAU teams look to the east to help fill there rosters.

Good luck to all the Imac teams at holiday tournys!.........Im trying to make a list of who plays when so i can come up with a plan to see em all........That mixed in with the local Knoxville teams i watch will probably get me into hot water with the wife.

Are Buda and Depew recieving college interest?
