1. Since my daughter completed her high school career tonight, I thought this would be a good time for me to make my last post and sign off of CoachT. I'll let the arguments, predictions, and smart remarks be made by those with a little more rooting interest than myself from here on out. If I offended anyone on here with my remarks, I apologize. That was not my intention. As hard as it is for anyone who knows me to believe, from here on out I will be a SILENT, casual observer. Be nice to each other.

    Jessie,

I don't know who got more enjoyment over the last four years, you or me. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I am so proud of you for what you have endured and for what you have accomplished. I know it has never been easy, but noone ever outworked you off the court or field, and noone outhustled you on it. You have been a joy to watch. Keep working hard. I love you 33.

  2. Congratulations to Boyd Buc. You girls have a great ball team and I hope you go far in the state tournament. I wish I were able to go see you girls play in Memphis because you play ball the way it is supposed to be played. Good HARD hitting, good defense, and GREAT pitching. Good Luck! thumb

To the Gordonsville girls: I am so proud of each and every one of you. No one (including myself) ever thought you could go as far as you did, but you came together as a team when you had to and you won the games you had to win. For that you deserve a load of credit. You have nothing to hang your heads about. Because of where you ended up, you will be the team that future Gordonsville teams will be compared to. That in itself is a great accomplishment.

Rachel, Jessie, and Ashley: It's been a great ride. Remember Wesley.

    I Love Y'all.

  3. The parents pay for all  the Touraments here, along with fund raiser,  the school kicks in 0000000!!!!!!!

I'm not talking about any financial contribution, but rather just the support to schedule tournaments. The parents are very involved and supportive, but outside of the parents there is little support. Several of the girls on the team also play basketball and once softball is concluded they are expected to fully commit to basketball all summer. Leaves little time for such frivolities as softball.

The reason I didn't think it was a possibility was because I didn't think you could play only two innings.

Whatever happens I know the GHS girls will play their hardest to the end and they won't lie down without putting up a fight and leaving everything they have between the lines. (Is that too many cliches?)

  4. I think that is true.  I have seen a few teams compete at the state level with a limited schedule.  I know Ezell did that several years ago.  I think those days are probably gone.  There are too many teams with almost all travel team players...and too many that play 40-50 game schedules.  It's difficult for teams that play 20 game schedules to compete at that level.

The fact of the matter is that softball at Gordonsville is treated as a fringe, extracurricular activity. Until the administration is committed to softball and baseball the way they are committed to football and basketball, then things will never change. Any success enjoyed by this team is because of the dedication of the girls themselves is spite of the obstacles they must overcome to succeed. There are at best four girls on the squad who have played any travel ball, all the rest are very inexperienced but improving. Getting the administration to commit to a couple of tournaments is laughable.

I am very proud of these girls for what they have been able to accomplish, especially over the last week or so. Upsets do happen, keep playing hard.

  5. I think I have been to quite a few games in my life ,coached in probalby a few more than you have seen, and when I said F.C.S. would win ,surely you took me serious,if not then you do not know about their winning percentage over the other teams in district 8A,and surely you know that they are the favorite. Thanks tennisguy, see you around.

What have you been to recently to qualify you to make an opinion? Have you seen either of these two teams play? Do you rely solely on what you read on this website? Nobody questioned who was the favorite in this game, I only questioned your qualification in making a prediction on it as to how Gordonsville would win only if the sky was falling. You still didn't answer the question I asked about when the last time you saw a game was. How many have you seen this year?

To say that you have probably coached in more games than I have seen is a ludicrous statement. You don't know me or my background and have no idea what my experience is. The only thing that is for certain is that one of the easiest things to do is to sit on this website for hours and days on end and make meaningless one line predictions based solely on whatever stats you can pull up or based on other people's opinions.

I know exactly what FCS has, what their winning percentage is, and I can guarantee you that I have seen them play 10 more ball games this year than you have. I also know that the Gordonsville girls have won three games this week in do or die situations in which they were the underdogs. Anything can happen and sometimes it does.

  6. FCS 12 - GHS 3. Same story, different day. A couple of big innings by FCS and that was the ball game.

Good luck on Friday in Chattanooga girls. Keep fighting. You're STILL playing.

  7. F.C.S unless the sky is falling.

I've got a question for you. When was the last time you saw a game...of any type, be it softball, basketball, or whatever. I don't mean watching it on TV. I mean actually paying an admission and sitting in the stands and observing a live ball game. The reason I ask is that you seem to have an opinion on everything, yet on all of your posts I never see where you say anything about actually seeing any of the teams play that you have an opinion on.

I'm not predicting a Gordonsville win, but the Tigerettes are playing better ball since the tournaments started and lost to FCS 5-0 during the district last week. You never know, a hit here and a good bounce there and things could turn their way. At least they're still playing.

  8. On the All-Tournament team are Carr, Waynick,Gill, Carrie Fry, Hailey Rutledge, and Kenzie Dye of friendship and Farr, Oliva Hall and Stevie Durr of watertown.

Any word if any Gordonsville or Westmoreland girls made either team?

  9. What happened to Westmoreland?

    825671391

Gordonsville beat them yesterday 4-2. Gordonsville got the big plays when they needed them in the Westmoreland game and the Watertown game. Good defense and good pitching from 8th grader Courtney Maynard. This will only be Gordonsville's second time playing in regions since they started playing softball at GHS.

    Congratulations Tigerettes.

  10. TC lost to Gordonsville today 10-9. 8th grader Courtney Maynard pitched for Gordonsville. She has shown a lot of guts this year and played very well. She had one bad inning today but was able to keep her composure enough to shut down TC the next two innings and get the win. She has pitched well this year against some good teams, losing to Smith County 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th, and she should be really tough for the next four years.

  11. why do you think private schools are better teams?

    825628618

Example: Travel Team A has ten players from ten different counties. Five players decide to go to Private School A, while the remaining five players go to the public school in their county. This happens again with Travel Team B. All of a sudden Private School A has ten top quality players and the public schools have two each.

This is far fetched, I know, but it could happen to some extent. The smaller public schools usually do not have the capital, resources, or the players available to them that the privates do.

  12. Stimpy, I like your post on the first page....I thought the same thing!

    825615881

I guess the difference is who is posting on this thread. :P

I go back to what I said one of the threads that was deleted. Whatever it was that Dodgen did to get fired, it was not serious enough that he be removed as softball coach. I'm confident that whatever excuse was used for his termination (and regardless of the vernacular, he was fired), the underlying reasons were personal, and probably the only people who will know the whole story are those directly involved.

I also said on the other thread that I did not care too much for some of Coach Dodgen's antics on the court, however I can't deny that he did a great job with the program at Smith County. I don't know the man personally, but the few times I spoke with him away from the basketball court, he seemed personable and polite. Every man deserves a second chance and I hope he goes somewhere and makes the best of his second chance.

Broman, this is probably on its way to deletion now.

  13. Now that I think about it, if they were to hire Ashley Mac I might become a SC fan. She's a lot prettier than Dodgen.

Well I probably wouldn't become a SC fan, but I'd sure go to a lot more of their games.

  14. I have tried to be about bball up here. I want to be welcomed back to a home court, where ever that is.

    825611071

If you want a serious answer, here it is. Nobody knows who the next coach at SC might be, but it will probably be a hire out of left field. When Dodgen was hired, noone really knew anything about him.

And a few questions: Who is going to make the decision? Roger Lewis? The school board? Jimmy Maynord? All three? What was wrong with the coach they had? If whatever it was that happened that he had to resign as basketball coach was so bad that it can't be discussed on CoachT, why is he still the softball coach? What's to keep the next coach from making the same mistake? Has Ashley Mac been hired anywhere yet? Just wonderin'.

(Trying my best to get the under.)

  15. I think they had a short list the last time, maybe they need a long list?

    825610977

There is 160 minutes of floor time for a team in a four quarter game. Take away about 30 minutes each for Chumney and Sleeper, that leaves 100 minutes of floor time. If they can find a coach that will give the other 13 or 14 girls 7-8 minutes of floor time each, that's who they should hire. Of course, after next year everyone's floor time would have to jump up to about 10 minutes each but he/she can work that out then.

  16. They can't block all the post on this subject. The news papers will soon get wind  and scoop the net. That may be the best way to go for this website. Let the print media bear the burden of pruff.

    825610934

What's the over/under on this thread getting locked and/or deleted?

  17. I don't think his ouster has anything to do with his coaching ablilty.  Making the right people happy was not a factor either.  Don't care if you are suprised or not.

    825606268

    Don't care if you care.

If you want to know who "Petunia" is, ask Jimbo. He's the one who brought her up.

    He didn't make someone happy.
