IDK if those in this thread followed last year. My alma mater (Indy)  won the district tournament last season and immediately went to play Hillsboro for a regional champ to determine seeding for state tourney. 4 teams from each district did not advance.

And honestly, could care less about how it's been done in the past. Reward the totality of the regular season or reward teams for how they play in a 4 day tournament??

Independence did not immediately advance to play Hillsboro following the district last year. A quick glance at their schedule from last season on here shows they played  Brentwood and then Nolensville in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the regional tournament before playing Hillsboro.

TSSAA Tournament setup for 2024 AAAA basketball is a complete cash grab; they should be ashamed. Post-season seeding was based on how teams finished in their district tournaments, rendering the entire regular season meaninigless. A team like Centennial finishes 3rd (10-4) in regular season in a very competitive region 10 but is upset in the first round of a single-game district tournament and misses out on post season play? First round Independence is playing a 6-23 Lincoln County team?

Last year, the single district champ moved on to sub-state; a way more efficient model.

Have no idea what you mean by a single district champ moved on to sub-state last year? Only the region winner and runner ups move on to sub state and it’s been that way for years.

  3. I would agree with him on the “boy” thing. The part about Harlan just makes him sound like an upset toddler though. The refs didn't give South Shore a fair whistle in my opinion, but the coach from Harlan choosing to be overly friendly with the refs when he sees another coach who is irate, is just smart coaching. South Shore isn’t 50 times better than Harlan in any world either. I saw them twice before the Arby’s. They played sloppy and undisciplined both times. I don’t think they beat Harlan even with a fair whistle. Closer game sure, but they didn’t execute and couldn’t make shots. That whole part makes taking anything else he said seriously difficult.

Were the refs fair to them? Probably not. But I ain't complaining because of their attitude.

I’ll give you that. I saw  the thing with Independence and I don’t think Noah intentionally fouled the kid either, he just went for the ball and got the arm instead. Then the walking off the court and not shaking hands doesn’t help the appearance for SS either.

    Yep you did.

Here's the breakdown so far as game is still ongoing:

--South Shore gets a technical for dunking in warm-ups.

--South Shore coach is made to sit for the game.

--South Shore coach asks ref "I didn't dunk. Why do I have to sit?!"

--Ref replies "Because I told you to."

--South Shore coach at the half walks off the court and yells "I'm never coming back here! Ever!"

--South Shore players have been called for two more technicals

--Between third and fourth quarter break South Shore fan yells "Ref you suck!"

--Ref subsequently gives South Shore coach second T.

--Scorers table clarifies it was a fan and not the coach so coach is allowed to stay on the bench.

--Harlan County still gets to shoot the two technicals and makes both.

Appreciate the break down I went to the bathroom between quarters and came back to the end of the technical involving the fan. Can’t blame the SS coach if he doesn’t wanna come back after this.

What happened? Not there, but we got smoked in OT. Did have one of, if not our best player out in Cooper Williams though. Not sure why he didn’t go. Certainly didn’t help.

Start of OT Dorman player drove and finished, foul called. Idk what was said between coach and ref, it did look like the ref went over and warned him, I thought it was just about the being in the box but maybe it was that and the complaint. They line up at the free throw line and something was said and ref gives him a T. Ended up being a 5 point swing to start OT.

  7. What a game! That’s why you play to win instead of not to lose. Don’t get me wrong, I understand it, it’s within the rules here, but trying to hold the basketball for over 2 minutes of game time just stinks, and really shouldn’t be an option. Congrats to Mentor and hats off to GW they’re super impressive, Kritner was unreal.

Harlan County will be the favored to win their region and make a state tournament appearance at Rupp.  Trent Noah is engine that makes them go.  He draws a lot of fouls and cashes in at the charity stripe. He will show well at the Arby’s.

He put up 37 against Oak Ridge in game one. Should be a step in competition up later today against Kell. Can’t wait to see it.

Did you stay for it all? Stupid me left.

Stuck around. It was almost unreal. It wasn’t like he was just attacking the rim and finishing. He just kept drilling deep shots, contested, falling down, didn’t matter. I kept thinking okay, he can’t keep this up and Maryville has enough cushion that when he cools off they can hang on. Nope, never happened, he just refused to be denied.

Anybody know if an out of town we can stream the radio broadcast of these games? I tried on the ESPN Tricities page and no audio is coming though. I tried WKPT on the tune in app and that gives me nothing.

Espn tri cities website never works for me. I don’t know an option for radio, maybe someone else will. You can stream the games, but you have to pay for that.

Mentor appears to have caught a big break with George Wythe pulling off the big upset. I know Mentor could fall into the same trap as Dorman if they underestimate GW, but I don’t think Mentor will do that. If Mentor isn’t hitting from the outside, they should be able to have success with their top 2/3 guys attacking the paint. All three have a sizeable advantage over GW based on how small they look from pictures. I don’t know if Mentor will aim to shoot up 40+ threes again.

I’d agree with you. I’d give Mentor the advantage, taking nothing away from GW but Mentor will shoot much better than Dorman I think, I don’t see them having that much of an off night. Dorman wasn’t hitting and they just never seemed to find any other gear that entire game. Credit GW for that, but I say there’s a good chance Dorman runs the table on the 6th place bracket side.

Arby’s starts today. Predictions on the winners for day one?

    Tabernacle over TN High

    Maryville beats Daniel Boone

    Dorman over George Wythe

    Mentor over Sullivan East

Harlan County over Oak ridge, think this will be the best game today but I’d give Harlan the nod.

    Kell beats Greeneville.
