Who is the best basketball player in the state? If I wanted to go watch a game who would you recommend? Are there any 7 footers or close that just dominate? Or a 6'7 point guard. Any "Penny Hardaways" around?

    Dalton Knecht. Plays in Knoxville.

Unless coacht has the wrong schedule I checked some local 5A teams and this is not 100% true clinton was listed vs heritage on a friday both are 5A

Schedules were done at the TSSAA office for the 2023-24 cycle with this plan implemented for week 11 both years. Some fan probably just dated the schedule incorrectly on this website. I would check the TSSAA website for official dates when they are published.

Traditionally playoffs start in November so I did not know if 1st round would be on 11/1 or 11/8. I do know that any classification can play on thursday or friday in the regular season so I don't know why you have the days set up like its the bluecross games.

TSSAA did ALL the region schedules for teams before the 2023 season. The emphasis was on official crews being available for each week. Week 11 is the only week where NOBODY has an bye (most games to cover). So to accommodate, TSSAA scheduled games on Thursday and Friday. 5A-3A-1A played on Thursday (10/26) and 6A-4A-2A played on Friday (10/27) last season. It flipped for the upcoming season.

So this leaves a possible game on 8/24 if they do a Saturday game like they have in recent years. 10/10 & 10/17 are also open. I think they normally leave the last game of the year before the playoffs to see which game has the most riding on it but now they have filled that with Coalfield and OS. It will most likely be for the region champ anyway though.

Anyone know any games that could be filled in these spots?

Last week of the regular season is on Thurs 10/31 (6A-4A-2A) and Fri 11/1 (5A-3A-1A) in 2024

In the playoffs - Ran up against Knox West’s Ronnie Cottrell who signed with Georgia Tech. Tough back. Also lost to Sevier Co.’s Deuce Wallace that signed with Vandy. And Jordyn Potts (Tenn Tech) and Walter Nolan (A&M -Ole Miss) were at Knox Powell when we lost to them. They also had a Div. 1 WR. - one thing I will add is Coach Pemberton will not back down from scheduling any team. Just give him time.

Is that Nathan Cottrell's grand daddy?

Anywhere is east tn.    I have heard blount county schools make a good bag of corn.  Anyone tried blount or heritage this year?

It's hard to beat the corn at Lenoir City not to mention the great venue. But if you're gonna get the corn make sure it's a midweek game. I think they use the leftovers on Friday from the Tuesday game.

Look, I’ve been staying pretty quiet because I really don’t wanna get into this, but you’re just mind blowing like I’m not denying you’re a Bearden fan, but the fact that you can’t get through your mind that Pruitt is a good coach or a great coach which is what he is, Mark was awesome what he did at Bearden will go down in history, but Pruitt took what Mark was doing and has ran with it and you talking about this team and how you think they should approve which I agree and I’m sure the coaching staff as well see’s, but you said you’ve been following Bearden basketball for two decades well if you’ve been following for two decades, you should realize that this is the one of the youngest teams that Bearden has ever had since the I don’t even know when only two seniors that really get any playing time. The rest are sophomores and juniors. Arguably the two best players on the team, Brody and Nordin, are both sophomores, following right behind King and Blair, who are juniors. They’ve always been good for Bearden as freshman sophomores and currently as juniors, so imagine what their senior years are going to be, and even still, it’s not really a “down year.” We’re actually having a great year, considering we’re pretty young with only two seniors getting playing time.

Again, it’s true. Farragut is known for their academics more so than their athletics. Same with Walker Valley. You can have good academics and athletics though, which is what Farragut has done. Thus, the reason for the comparison.

Farragut has or had the most Team State Championships across all sports for public schools. Brentwood has closed that gap and maybe surpassed them. Top 5 public school for academics and athletics.

Him, Blade, or Meadows, maybe? Ironically they all have the same first name.

Certainly Meadows earned that reputation years ago but not sure I agree with Blade. He left Hillsboro for OR and spent four years there before going back to the mid-state with a 9 year run at Indy. I think most threw him in that category because he chose to leave OR and they had never had a coach do that before.

And lost 23-12 which wasn’t a bad showing at all against a State Champ.

I've already laid out what needs to happen at these 5a and 6a schools in the Tri-Cities but until you all do something about it, your statement is right.  It’s not like Greeneville and Betsy have been State Champs for forever or just breed insane athletes, they took the formula from schools like Maryville and Alcoa and replicated it because they were tired of getting beat by them

And Betsy & Greeneville moved into a classification void of Alcoa or Maryville...

Yeah Barney We went and the place was packed. It was like watching college teams, the lines were  big and fast. Receivers would actually hold on to the ball when it hit them in the hands. I think Baylor made too many mistakes in the 2nd qt. and it got away from them. I don't think there are any publics that could compete with these last two. I've never seen a game like the last one. The other two looked about average but not the last one.

    Baylor had several costly drops

You act like Oakland had been trash for Creasy and this run. They just have titles in 5 different decades.

    80s 1 title, 2 runners-up

    90s 1 title

    00s 1 title

    10s 1 titles, 1 runners-up

    20s 3 titles

They may not have Maryville’s historical resume, but they’re no slouch.

Great resume, all of a sudden their championship pedigree far exceeds Rankin's championship run at Riverdale for best of Rutherford County.

  13. The old head coach relieved his duties and became the athletic director, (for the second time), and the former athletic director hired Jones before the former HC took the position (for the second time). Jones has really only worked for one AD since the former AD was in the position during his first spring semester but not regular season. The Bball coach was on the interview committee because the AD change was imminent. Just so happened his son was the freshman QB that year.
