  1. I am debating how to do the poll for DII, Class AA this time. There are now 14 members and I can only include 12 teams in the pre-season poll. Can we reach some kind of consensus as to who I leave out?

If any one gets left out it should be these 2. Ensworth's first year for any official football and St. Benedicts mostly likely to finish 2-8.. You can make a case for leaving out BGA and Briarcrest also

  3. JPII put together a solid 2nd half of football last night. If they can play like that for 2 halves they can beat Goodpasture. Still way too many mistakes on getting in the right formation and way too many penalties for a JPII team. If Goodpasture doubles Golden it opens up the middle for the run. If they dont then watch out.

Should be a fun / exciting game either way.

    JPII 38...GP 27

  4. take a look at the video's on www.schoolsportsradio.com when they played greenbriar the other night. to me, his line is not that impressive. golden is the man. he is definately what everyone is saying he is.

What were you watching. The 3rd TD after the snap ther is no Greenbrier D-line left in the picture where Golden ran through. Golden is a Good back because he sees the holes as they open. A good line will open a hole maybe not in the exact location but its the backs job to read where it is. The 1nd and 4th TD's were all Tate the other 2 you have to give some credit to the Line!

  5. I think the irish will win a very tight game against the knights. JPII might win the battle at the "skilled" positions but who do they have on the line (on offense and defense) or at linebacker on defense? You cannot plug a whole d-line with one man, Courtney Coffey. The irish should be able to pound the ball right up the knights gut play in play out. Nobody on JPII's line can match the speed and agility of Aaron Bateman and nobody in JPII's secondary can come close to matching him on a one on one collision. Aaron should have a big game on offense and defense. Just as Golden Tate is expected to be JPII's playmaker this game/year, Aaron Bateman is expected to be Ryan's playmaker.

Well.. Courtney Coffey plays linebacker now, and the Oline has some beef They probably average 255lbs. Watch the 3rd touchdown on schoolsportsradio.com the Oline had a real nice 3 yard push on the Dline of Greenbier; Tate had a hole anybody could have run through.... maybe not scored..lol.. but run through.

  6. This game should go down to the wire. Nerves and emotion will keep it scoreless into the second half. Unless FR is foolish enough to punt the ball to Tate. JPII's front Oline takes over in the forth quarter and FR gets a dose of Cortney Coffee up the gut and Drives down for the winning FG.

    JPII..10

    FR.....7

  7. Peronally my favorite is a 5-2 with a monster. Its hard to run against or throw on. The only way Wing-T's eat it up is the backside linbacker isnt doing his job or the linemen are getting dominated.

Pretty much my point on the 5-2. I see many teams with the beef in the middle of the line but light weight ends and aggresive backers. Its hard for a young player not to take that first step towards the ball and ends up out of position very quickly. In theory it is a great scheme but you need very strong, quick and disciplined players.

  8. Wondering what the most used HS defense is out there. In My day it was either a 5-3 or a 4-4 stack. I know thing have changed. So is it the 5-2 (with a SS) or 4-3 or 3-4 or something else?

I personally dont like the 5-2 for HS ball, unless you have some strong ends and a great nose-tackle. The Wing-t type offenses seem to eat it up.

  9. Okay, Golden Tate is a phenomenal player, but I don't believe you can compae him to Reggie Bush. Maybe once he gets two NC's, a Heisman Trophy, #2 pick in the draft, all before he's a senior in college, then you can compare them. If Reggie is a 95, there is no way Golden Tate is an 85-87. Like I said he's a phenomenal player, but Reggie Bush is almost inhuman.

I agree Reggie is almost inhuman. The most exciting Player I have ever seen on a football field. I have watched many of Tates Games and he is the most exciting HS palyer I have seen in some time.

with a little research I found ESPN has Tate ranked with a grade of 83 for the class of 2007, if he has another star season I'm sure that grade will increase.

Maybe not to the Rare Prospect level of a Reggie Bush, but good enough to play for any top level DI team that has a shot at a NC

    80-89: Outstanding Prospect

Player has the ability to create mismatches against most opponents. He is a player that could be a contributor as a true freshman.

    90-100: Rare Prospect

Player demonstrates rare abilities and can create mismatches that have an obvious impact on the game. Is a player that has all the skills to take over a game and could be an impact player as a true freshman

  10. All I will say is this

Reggie Bush 5' 11" 200lbs...40yd dash..4.35 returns kicks, punts, WR and Tail back as a JR in HS had 3135 all purpose yards & 34 touchdowns.

Golden Tate 5' 11" 180lbs...40yd Dash..4.42 Returns kicks, punts, WR and Tail back as Jr in HS had 2400 all purpose yards and 24 touch downs. Not Including his interceptions and punting

If on a scale of 1-100 Reggie Bush is a 95 than Golden has to rank around a 85-87 good enough to play on primetime Saturdays and I expect we will see him on Sundays as well.

  11. Is Franklin County's running game a power or finesse scheme? Will they pound it up the middle or should we look for a lot of stuff off the corners. Sounds lke they were working hard on the passing game against Cookeville so you have to wonder what we'll see on Friday night.

    Go Warriors!!!!

Franklin Co. Coaches should be retired. They have one of the Quickest backs in the area. But they insist on trying to run him up the middle. At the JPII game it was up the middle all the time. If they get him to a corner watch out.

Who you have to watch out for is the Nose Guard About 6-2 295 and quick off the balland strong as an ox. Needs to be doubled. If you take care of him the rest are pretty average.

  12. private schools are just that "private" they are not state or federally funded. I do not see how that could sue the TSSAA based on the fact that the TSSAA is a state agency.

Any Private entity can sue the state. The state is providing a service and You have to Pay the TSSAA to join and stay a member. Once they take your money your in the club. If they are sued it will be for Descrimination and bias against members it has let in.

  13. Let's make it real easy.

    Drop the multiplier period!!!!

Let all schools who offer financial aid or who are private schools play in their own regions. If you can afford $7,000+ to send your kid to a school then extra costs to travel should not be a problem. If that "education" is special at that private school, then the "sports" should be as well. My hat is off to the BA's of the state who offer aid and travel and make their budget. Those that pretend that their budgets won't allow the extra cost of travel and it won't be fair....make it simple....raise tuition another $1,000 per student.

Look for legal action here in Tenn as well.

Ok I agree Drop the Multiplier. Why the Heck would the Privates even need the TSSAA. The whole deal is if you let the privates in the league you must let them all play by the same league rules. Its not just a question of their own regions or divisions or classes. You must let them in or Kick them out of the league.... By the way BullDog the state of Tennessee and its counties spend $6500/year per student to send a kid to public school and when they need or want extra money they just raise your taxes.

  14. Having all the private schools in Division II would decrease the travel, as a whole. It's been pointed out (by me and others) many times. That's not an issue. Nobody wants a 350-student Brentwood Academy winning the state in football against schools six times larger, which could happen in a merit system so that's not the answer either. Some private schools just want to continue beating public schools, win 7 or 8 games at least every year and call themselves a quality program.

    Indian

Travel is an issue...I looked at your post from Dec 27 2004 - 08:35 PM and it does not cut down on travel at all. You have Knoxville Teams traveling to Chattanooga , Sewanee to Clarksville, Collierville to Jackson. Why should any team have to travel more than 1 hour to play anybody. And you didn’t even address the AAA teams just tossed them all into one big group. Hey Lots of travel savings there!

Your point on Private schools just wanting to continue to beat public schools is also unjustified. Private schools Serve a market, they do not choose the area in which they build because of the poor athletics of surrounding schools. They choose the area to fill a need that public schools can't or will not fill. Whether it be a religious or educational standard that is lacking in the area public school. People don’t send their children to these schools because they have a good football team. They do however encourage participation, something the public schools don’t do.

I believe in the Public school system I am a graduate of a public system.

There are several great public school systems in the state unfortunately not everyone can live in an area that has a great system. And those that can afford to take their children out of the Lousy systems probably will.

From your Posts I can tell your a public grad I would say about 28-30 years old.

Have Any Kids yet? I challenge you to Take a Visit to Gallatin, McGavock Lebanon, or Clarksville High schools spend a few days, Talk to the officers that roam the halls and man the doors. Then go to JPII, DCA, Goodpasture, and Clarksville Acad. then come back and tell me where you would send your kids
