  1. I apologize, maybe I have been a bit harsh with the words that I used. I say that because I remember playing a Cocke County team that did what needed to be done. If a team didn't play a perfect game against them, they would lose. We played one of the best games ever against them in 97, and still Bubba White was too much to handle. A close game at the end, but wow........it was an amazing team. It takes a while for a new coach to break things in. I believe Coach Jenkins is in his third year at Boone, though I might be wrong and it could be his second year. All I know is that a new coach steps into a program and it takes at least two to three years to see the impact that he has made on the program. As far as respect goes, I dish that out off of certain things. If the kid goes through the two a days, survives the beatings and hard work that is required, plays with respect and determination, then you will never hear a word out of me saying "you stink, it doesn't matter, go home, blah blah" nope nope not me. Why? Because I know kids like that WANT to win, they need that win, and even if they are 0-5, they will go as hard as they can to beat those so called "good" teams. I guess I just see Cocke County as a mere shadow of what they used to be. 4-5 "bad" years for a program is hard to get over. It takes a total rebuild by coaches and players. They have to put in a lot of extra work off season and come in with a do or die attitude. To be honest with you about something else, I was against Boone being moved to region 2. Why? Two years ago you had the top four teams from region 1 beating every region 2 team in the play offs. It just looked like a weaker conference (notice the past tense there). Besides Morristown West, I saw Region 2 as just not as hard as region 1. Now, it looks like we have some teams that are putting together great programs to dig deep into the play offs. It would please me greatly to see better competition from the teams that are usually at the bottom of the barrel. The better and tougher each of these conferences are, the more likely you will finally see one of these region 1 and 2 teams finally bring home a state championship in this century.
  2. I'm not sure now things work in Sullivan County, but if I had a choice of School, it would probably go South, North, East, Central. This program was strong while I was playing, I don't see what is wrong with them now.
  3. Greenville Cherokee and North have probably been their toughest games this year. North and Cherokee are good teams no matter which way you put it. Greenville hasn't had good luck, but almost stole a win away from Sullivan South this year.
  4. I think it is pretty obvious that a very strong Boone team is going to be headed down to Newport to play a down and out Cocke County team. I played against Cocke County when they had a hard nosed program, but it looks like those days might be gone. Boone 35 CC 7 It just isn't going to be close. As long as Boone shows up and plays with determination, this is going to be a one sided game.
  5. Just admit she had her ankle stuck in your beard and she tried to make the best of the situation
  6. The switch that was forced upon Boone to change conferences has well..........it has been nothing but positive. Looks like Boone pulled off two close ones these past two weeks. If they can keep this up all season, we are looking at a 9-1 or possibly..........I won't say it. Cocke County first, fanboy thoughts should not be spoken aloud.
  7. Must have been a good game. I'm glad my boys came out on top. Looks like Boone has really put together another good team. Good luck to North during the rest of their season, I hope no one got hurt, and I'll see all the Boone men in the Boone vs Cocke County thread.
  8. I see that in the second quarter it was 7 to 6 Boone ahead. Can anyone give me an update on the score? I hate working...
  9. I've been to those with him before he was at South coaching. Snake drills, four quarters, hills....... I can't imagine what fun he put you through since he is now a head coach haha
  10. He did that while I was there, and wouldn't you know we had dead feet on Friday because we were tired from our Thursday practice. I won't say anything against Coach Green and the way he did things, but Coach Jenkins really runs a tight ship during practice. I believe (last fall) I went and watched a practice and they were out by 6 (or less). All drills were run on time and quickly done. The kids were well disciplined and really functioned well together in the practice environment.
  11. Comments like that make me nervous about the game. I can't say that your pick is totally wrong because we both know this will be a close game. I know the game can easily go back and forth so that either of our picks can go either way. I know that both teams will have to be at the top of their game to bring home the win. Good luck and I hope everyone is prepared for a good game this Friday.
  12. The Jonesborough Herald Tribune ( I think that is the name) had some great color pictures of the game last Friday. I look and what do I see, some player (who was number 52) excited. I think it would have worked better for him though, if he would have shaved. All I saw was some red and a dark beard, I wonder what his face looks like...
  13. I'll give ya that one. We probably should stay on topic, but it seems like the Boone fans pretty much talk about the game at hand and other things that happen around the team. The reason Mo West is brought up is because Mikey feels/felt that Boone should not be playing North in a pick up game for the season. This lead to other discussions about last year, the game next week, and how it might affect a game two weeks from now. I just don't see why you get so riled up about what the fans are talking about. If players were on here talking about how important the Mo West game is, I could understand that, but this is just a bunch of fans wondering just throwing ideas at one another.
  14. Both teams have a pretty solid offense. The question is, which defense will show up. Boone 21 North 14 That will be my prediction for the game. That can easily be turned around if North gets breaks and/or Boone doesn't execute. I think this will be another exciting game just like the one against Cherokee last week.
  15. Getting ahead of myself and thinking about games in the future is entirely different from a team thinking ahead two games. There is nothing wrong with supposing what might happen in a certain situation. Note I said I HOPE that both teams show up undefeated, I HOPE that it comes down to these two teams. I'm a spectator my dear, I can sit back and wonder what might happen all day long. It doesn't mean that I don't believe all the other conference games are just cakewalks for either of the teams, but it does mean I can talk about certain games coming up later in the season and my excitement about playing the opposing team.
  16. Yea, I hope it ends up that way too. I guess I somewhat like this conference that Boone is in because it seems like they have had better luck against the teams they are playing in it now. A Mo West team can be just as good as a South or TN High, but Boone doesn't always have the best of games against them. That isn't to say that West is a bad team or even close. I think (and hope) the game against West will be for the conference title. I respect the Mo West team and I think that if Boone doesn't play at the best of their ability for that game, it'll be a long four quarters.
  17. Yes but in the case of a tie, beating North could be very important for playoff standings.
  18. Did it play out that they went by "Well such and such team was a 5A team vs a 3A" or did they look at the points scored to decide the tie. Because if what you are saying is right, a team, lets say..........beats Maryville, but another team beats......lets say Science Hill, then if a tie happened, the team that bit Science Hill would go to the playoffs but not the team that beat Maryville. Far fetched, sure, but entirely possibly if what you are saying is true.
  19. They could also lose two important games inbetween that time by just worrying about West. You know how Friday Nights work, a team that just laughs at another is just setting themselves up for a loss. Case in point, my senior year against Mo West in the playoffs, the team was looking toward Elizabethton and even ordered themselves pizza as an after game treat. What happened? We stole your pizza West, we took your pizza, we went on to play another game while an 11-1 team went home wondering "why?" If Boone does this, they would set themselves up for a big loss against possibly Cocke County. That is a region game and extremely important for the Blazers success.
  20. I hope the Boone band plays Back in Back. There, I threw down the gauntlet, let thee North fans come!
  21. Maybe I'm kind of lost what you are trying to mean. Do you think they should have off three weeks to prepare for the team, or that these games are only getting them ready for the team? I'm confused I never liked off weeks. I don't really think they help out that much (personal opinion). I think playing games week after week keeps you focused and on top of your game. Oh well, I'm sure you'll explain what you mean........I mean you better, I'm confused!
  22. Losing to North did mean something. It brought Boone back down to Earth and showed that they weren't an invincible team. Not only did it bring a reality check, it also showed the coaches and players their own weaknesses. Losing that game may very well have been one of the best things for Boone last year. And it kept my team tied for the win record Don't worry about M West yet, well you can, seeing as how you are a fan just like me, but let the players keep focused on North for the week. Whoever said one week at a time is right. If Boone keeps their nose to the grindstone and does that, they will keep being successful.
  23. Should be a good game. I'll have to look up stuff about North, but if Boone can keep things together, I see good things for them this week. Going over to North to play should prove interesting for the Blazers.
  24. Sounds like this was a game that could have gone either way. Good game all around.
  25. Ah I think I might have quoted the wrong person. I thought someone said that Boone was on strength with South, and I was pointing that out. Apologize, and you are very much correct. Didn't mean to sound like I was disagreeing.
