1. Greenbrier will have their hands full.

I hope we have our hands full of a big W!

Isn't there a keg or totem pole or something of value that should be held by the winning team every year from this rivalry? Of course, I guess WH could have pretty much cast theirs in concrete and glass for the past, what, 23 years or so? Remember, though: Streaks are made to be broken...they say. They also say, "if you forget the past, you're doomed to repeat it." Lord, please! Let us never forget!

This game will be a good one because there's annual neighborly pride and incentive on both sides. It's Vandy-UT, Auburn-Bama, Florida-Fla. St.-Miami. It's coffee shop, hay field and message board chatter. But, really, nothin' matters except THAT particular Friday night between 7 and 9:30pm. Heck, I'm gettin' excited and we ain't even played Macon Co. yet. Glad I ain't a player. Coach'd bench my butt for thinkin' ahead! Pray for some of this good weather to last.

Good luck to both teams. Go Cats! :thumb:

  2. I don't gamble but I would guarantee at least 2 td's by macon. Both from the ground. B)

2 rushin' TDs, huh? Garnteed? And with a GREEN thumb, too? Okay! We'll be keepin' up. B)

Somebody mentioned their 12th man, I think, earlier on this thread. Well, I don't think our 12th man is our fans, as good as they are...and they are WILD about their football team!, which Macon Co. will soon see. No, in my humble opinion, our 12th man is the Bobcat coaching staff. They are committed, calm and capable. They've been there, done that. So, while we have a lot of fun (not you Catfish, you "idiot," you're too serious) on this board discussing, giving opinions and such, those guys are sweating their butts off working hard, working late and preparing our young men for the game at hand. That makes me sleep good at night (just kiddin' - It's ONLY A GAME B) ), knowing these kids are in the competent hands of men that make it fun and want to win.

    Oh, yeah. Go Cats! B)

  3. Surely you can find that score because it is the one you got when you came to Ashland City back in week five.

I've done Cheatham games all season long you idiot. I have no affiliation with Sycamore in 2005. You know that but you are just in denail because the team I support spanked your team this season :D:D

Better hope that WH doesn't do the same in week ten because if that happens Pearl-Cohn will be the 2005 Region 4-3A Champions. When was the last time you beat White House again????

I will feel bad for the guys like NoDoubt and COACHHARD, who I actually get along with. It is guys like you and GreenbrierCat2 who are the idiots I can't stand talking to on this website.

Oh! Oh, yeah. Sorry. I AM in denIAl because that was a fluke.

And, speaking of denial, who could blame you, a Sycamore grad, for having "no affiliation with Sycamore in 2005." In psycho terms, that'd be what Cat2 has correctly diagnosed that you have: ANGRY DENIAL w/ NO LOYALTY DISORDER.

You NEED to latch on to a team that has a few wins, although last night wasn't one of them, was it? Not many people lost twice last night, but you did! :D

So, in conclusion, we're kind of alike, except one thing: You live in a fantasy world and I don't.

Good night! (And don't forget to take your medicine...please!)

  4. Actually we won and you lost buddy (28-3 was the score) ;);)

 Are you also supporting a DII team now? I can't find that score anywhere.

Anyway, in the Sycamore game I noticed where both 'IFs' played and they still got hammered. Have mercy!

Good luck with both...I mean all...of your teams this week. We'll be taking on a very dangerous Macon Co. team. The same team one of your teams(?) lost to last night.

  5. Great job, guys! Not too shabby of a coachin' job either. What a 'team!'

Okay, how 'bout THIS sce na rio: GB beats Macon AND White House...

and Catfish starts rooting for the Cubbies ONLY! How 'bout THAT scenario, Cat2? Does THAT sound about right to ya, 'buddy?' ;)

It does to me and you know what else?

    Tim-boy (aka the GB reject),

You might want to pick another team to support, too. I'll take whoever you don't want from here on out, okay 'buddy?' ;)

  6. You are right by saying Greenbrier is "methodical" on the offensive side of the football. They will have to either catch the Firebirds sleeping in the secondary OR trick them in some fashion to make any kind of big play because their backs (Dill, Pigg, and Herndon) certainly aren't gonna outrun PC's defense.

The same can be said for Greenbrier's defense vs PC's offense as well. When you look at this matchup on paper it is a total mismatch. PC is huge across their offensive line. They have a good quarterback who can throw it and run it. Their receivers are big athletic players who'll go up and get it. They have a 1,000 yard back who's faster than anyone Greenbrier has. HOWEVER, Greenbrier is a team that is extremely well coached defensively and their players are almost always in the right spot.

I'll be calling a great game this week between Cheatham Co.-Creek Wood but this one should be a classic :thumb:

Good analysis, but make up your mind: Methodical or the big play? If you know Greenbrier, you know the offense is not geared around the 'big play.'

And if I was Coach Z, I'd be thinking "Hmm? They're more athletic and got speed to burn. 1985. Miami. Bigger, stronger, faster. Where have I heard (I mean celebrated) THAT recently? Oh, yeah! Uhmm!"

  7. Beautiful weather is predicted and the stands will be full of fans.

Maybe the 'predictors' (you know, them million $ computer models that Bill, Lelan and Davis always blame when they mess up) meant beautiful football weather. Yeah, that's it!

It's a chilly, gray January day here in Metropolitan Greenbrier at just after 2 in the afternoon. Oh, well. So much for the beautiful sunset I usually enjoy over the visitors side. I'll bet the stands will still be full...on BOTH sides and now we'll enjoy some of that special Bobcat hot chocolate. So, HA HA HA!

  8. In other words you believe that White House & Greenbrier are fairly equal football teams

I'll go out on a limb, although it wouldn't be a really large one seeing the game these two teams have played against each other since '01, and say Sycamore wins this huge region matchup on the road. This is assuming that both Lohin & Graham play this week for the War Eagles.

Why did Greenbrier move Herndon from QB??? Was he injured at Cheatham OR is it just a better all around move for the team to get him in the backfield along with Pigg and Dill????

    Sycamore: 21

    Greenbrier: 14

'Buddy,' is that a Sycamore tree limb you're on? I know. It's weak, but I couldn't resist.

Herndon ain't hurt. He's just been jerked around so much, he's never had a chance to get real comfortable with a position (RB, WB, WR, QB, coach, waterboy, mascot, brother of current Mr. Football). IF he gets comfortable, IF the Three Horsemen remain healthy, IF Justin Grogan continues to gain confidence (we're confident - HE'S A PLAYER!), IF the line continues to mature and IF the coaches let Mr. Pigg return punts, well, this game could be the catapult for a tough stretch-run (baseball term, sorry) to the playoffs.

I really like this backfield. They're talented, have deceitful speed and tough as nails. If they come to play tomorrow night, it could get ugly quick.

Beautiful weather is predicted and the stands will be full of fans. But, more importantly, last year's seniors should be there in force. They are the group that raised the bar forever and now Greenbrier's expectations should always be to make it to State. It'd be nice to see this year's group play 13 or so games (15?). Do they have the talent? Yes. Do they have the coaching? Absolutely! As last year's team will readily admit, it takes luck and timing to get there. You just gotta believe. Go Cats!

  9. They sure have battled it out for the last few years. Gonna be a great game. If 10 plays, Sycamore can win the game. I hope his status is good for the coming week.

If you think your 10 can beat our 11... Jus kiddin'. Hopefully, he'll be healthy, 'cause we don't want no whinin' about it later. Run whatcha brung!

Win OR Lose this football game it really doesn't matter. Sycamore's playoff hopes will be decided next week when Macon Co. comes to Pleasant View. If they win that game, then they are in the playoffs, end of story.

It doesn't matter what seed you are heading into the playoffs. Sonner or later to be a legit title contender you'll have to beat a couple of great teams anyway

Right! Dude, you'll be REcalling this game FOR-E-VER if Sycamore wins. So quit playin'. You're correct as far as getting INTO the playoffs, but as far as pride and braggin' rights, oh, IT MATTERS alright!

  10. To TiredSportsFan:

Greenbrier knows the feeling---we didn't play like the Bobcats normally do against Cheatham either. It's like watching a bad movie. and having to wait a week to change the channel.

    GREAT description!

Sycamore scheduled Pearl Cohn for Homecoming?????????????

    GREAT comeback!

One more thing: Get Mr. Pigg more touches (IMHO, he ought to be returnin' those punts). Him, li'l Herndon and Troy Dill ought to be gettin' it 10X each...per game! And Justin Grogan: You've got it, boy. Just keep your cool, do your job and it'll all come together at (hopefully) just the right time. Y'all were impressive Friday night. Keep it up. You ARE good, but you've got to believe it yourselves and stay humble.

  11. i don't mean to make fun of the guy or say anything bad about him bacause he has alot of heart but if he plays nose-guard wouldn't he be easy to block

Think about it: You and I have both seen athletes with complete, healthy bodies, but no heart. They're whiners that go half-speed most of the time and need a 'kick in the butt.' Don't you know this guy's heart is as big as they come? What an inspiring story. Hat's off, indeed!

  12. GreenbrierCat2' post='825761489' date='Sep 24 2005 - 12:06 AM']

PS: Cheatham needs to get some visitor side bleachers. Some strategy to put the visiting team on the other side of the field with no fans behind them. Not that would have helped won this game, but it really stinks to not be able to be on the same side as your team.

PSS: Face it, we got our butts handed to us. So, the only way bleachers would come into play is if we could've thrown them at the CCHS players that ran all over us!

    LOL!!

  13. I was told they will go east for the sectionals this year, with East Ridge possibly being their stongest opponent.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure Greenbrier's middle school is currently undefeated as well. Volleyball in Greenbrier is starting to build some tradition.

You're correct. Those li'l Lady Cats are undefeated (14?-0) and just won the Jim Satterfield Middle School Invitational Tournament in Hartsville for the 5th time (4th straight under Coach Vicki Clark, I think) this past weekend. I'm sure Coach'll have 'em revved up for their own tourney this weekend @ GHS, too.

Any news on what Coach Grogan is gonna do next year?

  14. The parking situation at CC is lacking. I know we used to fill it up for Jr Pro games and there will be twice as many fans there Friday night. They may need to park the overflows and shuttle them in from Moss Wright park........ :P

 That JPII announcer just don't know, does he? ;)

My apologies to catfish-hunter for the comments of two members who are no longer with us.

:D Death by stupidness. Will there be any visitation? (just kiddin' Coach!)

  15. Golden Tate is a very good player with great athletic ability.  Most people are lucky to watch a player of Tate's ability much less play with or against them.  Roger Herndon is a great kid, student,  and was a good player but he is not close to being the athlete or football player that Golden is now or he would have been offered a scholarship to an SEC school.  Golden Tate will be the #1 prospect in Tennessee next year because he has what you cannot teach; speed.

    825750298

There's lots of speed out there and next year won't be any different. I heard Deion Sanders, a guy who was pretty fast back in the day, describe speed this way just the other day: He said some players are fast in the 40 by timed speed, but are faster when you put them next to somebody else...on the field. Roger had (has?) THAT kind of speed.

So, I disagree with you that 'he is not close to being the athlete or football player that Golden is now...' And like I said, attitudes mean a lot and G's attitude is lackin,' from what I've observed on the field. If I had to pick 'em today, I'd take a team of Roger's over a team of Golden's (I never observed the reigning Mr. Football take a play off...ever! In fact, that's when he'd make you pay - when you took one off). Too bad we can't see who wins in this one.

  16. I don't know about 'Best All-Around in State,' but he's obviously a gamer. Gaston Miller (from Riverdale) might have a say in that title. Golden's attitude will determine his success. When you're young and that good, it's hard to be humble I know, but...

Roger Herndon (last year's 3A Mr. Football Back) was a gamer, and his attitude was always in check. He's a humble kid and always showed great respect for his opponents and teammates. Most of that influence came from his parents (and I suppose grandparents) and coaches. He's not playing this fall and that's a real shame.

As for any player taking plays off: If I'm the coach (or parent), I'd let him know my displeasure about it. In my opinion, the ONLY time you can take plays off is when you're on the sideline resting or injured. Lots of people in this world don't have the healthy bodies needed to compete in sports. It's a privilege and a blessing. And when you're competing as a team, you should go 100%, 100% of the time.

  17. Note:

All overflow parking will be located at Moss Wright Park.......

    825723509

Except for you, Bomb. Your special overflo parkin' spot's located at Travis Price Park in Sprangfield, just a short jaunt to the north. So don't miss the publicly-funded yeller short bus. Oh, yeah, and remember, the park closes at 10...for outta-towners!

  18. I just want to know what was that JUNK leaving a timeout on the board and running on 2d down after the failed draw play.  Did the coaches quit on the players for Greenbrier?  That is the question that all the Greenbrier fans are talking about.  How can you finish the game with a timeout still on the board?

    825723171

    Yep!

The phone number for GHS is 643-4526. Why don't you give one of the coaches a call, set up a meeting and ask them face to face?

    825723201

Come on, Coach. This don't even sound like you! Let's call a timeout B) ...calm down...and at least talk about it.

I know the Cat fans I was sitting beside were aggravated at the end of the game with a timeout left on the board.  As even a kid said "if we had a breakout run and then could have gone for two the game would have been tied"..... anything was possible, given the chance.

We can only ASSUME the Cats' coaching staff did this for a reason, but if the fans and the boys are not going to fold until it's over, neither should the coaching staff.

    825723292

Amen! Where was the long ball? Lil' Herndon sure looked good throwin' it to me (Yanks, I think we've found us a QB, duh!). Just need a receiver that'll hang on to it (Mr. Pigg, maybe?)! Coaches are paid to manage the game AND play to win...ain't they?
