  1. Another encouraging thing is that there are a few new faces on the defense that are not only new to team, but new to the sport, whether its their first time or if they've taken a few years off. Those few guys have played extremely well from what I can see and will only get better with experience.

Also, stud safety Stannard was a bit gimpy last week. Look for the defense to improve greatly when he is back to full strength as well.

I liked seeing Taylor Dixon out there. He brings some intensity. There will be a lot of opportunities for some younger kids to step up and help. A good measuring stick could be the scrimmage next week against MBA. I was most impressed with their conditioning. Of course with Coach Ceislak and others heading it up, it is to be expected. After the halftime break, WC was sucking wind and tired.

  3. Actually I was trying to make it so a State fan could understand what I was saying /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

    Dude,

Good comeback, now back under your rock. What are your Cougars going to do this year? Saw some of them at the Indy/WC scrimmage. Getting some early scouting in.

  4. that is what i said.... so back to the topic here - will the indy defense be able to step up this year and at brentwood how is the qb and running game lool

I was impressed with Indy's defense against WC. They swarm to the ball well. They miseed some tackles, but last year's team did so early. They'll get it corrected. It seemed that they were trying to make the highlight reel hit instead of wrapping up. It will get better. They have a long way to go but there are a pretty good team.

  5. What would I base it on? I would base it on...

better throwing mechanicsthe Dickson County game two years ago when him and Emory Martin played QBthe fact that he was playing against better competition (with the exception of week 15) last seasonhe played QB last season when Pettigrew was not 100% healthy, which when Pettigrew was healthy it took a lot of pressure off of the QBthe passing game opens up a lot more when he is at QB (yes I know the running game goes in the other direction but I believe their strength to be more in the receivers this year as opposed to the running back)

    Let's look at your list:

better throwing mechanics - Maybe, but it isn't as much about mechanics as it is getting the ball to the receiver.

the Dickson County game two years ago when him and Emory Martin played QB - That was 2 years ago.

the fact that he was playing against better competition (with the exception of week 15) last season - He started against MBA (good team I agree with you), Franklin (So did Heckman in quarterfinals), Centennial (Better than who?), Memphis East (Better than who and he had 2 ints and Heckman was put in). Heckman then started against CNE, DC, Ravenwood, Brentwood, Columbia, Gallatin, Antioch, Franklin, Millington and Smyrna. (9-1).

he played QB last season when Pettigrew was not 100% healthy, which when Pettigrew was healthy it took a lot of pressure off of the QB - Pettigrew had over 200 vs Centennial. He was pretty healthy from then on. Nick didn't start vs BA, so MBA was the only game.

the passing game opens up a lot more when he is at QB (yes I know the running game goes in the other direction but I believe their strength to be more in the receivers this year as opposed to the running back) - Not sure how that is. Teams are able to defend the pass since he is not a running threat. The game is about balance, not just passing.

I've said it before I like Nick Smith. IMO Heckman gives the team a better chance at being multi-dimensional and a better team. For some reason Nick lost confidence in his passing ability. I remember his Sophmore year when he played he was able to make the good throws. Last year, he threw too many bad balls. Once a qb loses confidence they start pressing and make more mistakes. Indy has a playoff shot with Heckman, but unfortunately if Heckman goes down, they will struggle. I hate to say it but I am not the only one that will say it.

  6. The only things that worried me that I noticed in the scrimmage were some falters by the o-line which was expected by many (a first year unit together, will get better with time) and a lack of consistency wrapping up tackles. Overall I was very pleased their performence against a good Wilson Central team. I'll be interested to see how the perform against LaVergne on Thursday.

I was impressed with IHS's performance overall. WC came out intimidating. After the break I noticed WC was sucking wind. IHS was definitely in better shape and that will mean a lot during the season, especially early in the heat. The OLine did a decent job for only having 1 returning starter. They still have a ways to go, but they will get better. Heckman did a very good job reading the veer and his passes were on target. Williams and Norman have speed and caught some nice balls. They need others (Shepherd and Stannard) to provide them with more options so the defense can't lock down on 1 primary receiver.

Defensively I liked the way they get to the ball, but they didn't tackle as good as I thought they should. If you remember last year's team, they did the same early on, but got a lot better as the season progressed. Bobby C will get them tackling better. Not sure about TK as a standup LB. I think he needs to be at Nose, but that is not my call. I was impressed with Meeker. He was flying around and hitting well.

I see the biggest concern is in the kicking game. Veres will be missed a lot here. They might need the Soph. Leake to step in. Has a good leg, needs to be more consistent. Wish I could see the scrimmage Thursday, but am taking son to Campbellsville to begin football practice. Good luck to the Eagles this season.

  7. I have started a new thread for FCHS fans and players.

    KEEP IT CLEAN!!!

    Coach,

Congrats on getting back to TN. I coached when you were in Franklin and saw you in Spring Hill. You scrimmaged my team when I was at Heritage MS also. Drop me an email at tnsparty@charter.net sometime. My son Nate just signed to play at Campblesville. Will be good to here from you.

  8. 6-5A best memory of last season... what was your favorite memory of last season - what one play stood out the most for you?

Here is another Indy 6 5-A memory. It was so much a play but a series of plays. At Dickson County with Indy up 14-0 in the 2nd, DC was driving and Veres intercepted them at the 1. Indy took the ball and drove 99 yards to score (about 15 plays). Indy had struggled in the games before that and that series seemed to turn the whole season around. DC was done after that drive as Indy won 27-7.

  9. 6-5A best memory of last season... what was your favorite memory of last season - what one play stood out the most for you?

me, was Franlin @ Indy playoff game - the overflow crowd and the " catch " in the 40 seconds of the game to set up Veres game winning field goal as it looked for sure OT was coming

HONORABLE mention - INDYS firstever win over Ravenwood- i was leaving the stadium and in the parking lot close to 60 students were gathered in a circl arm in arm singing Elton Johns " Tiny Dancer "

That was definitely memorable. Besides the catch and field goal the last play of the game was absolutely bar none the biggest hit I have ever seen in a football game. Pettigrew has a 25 yard sprint and knocks Steele out to end the game. What a collision.

Then the scene at Millington after the game. They wouldn't let any fans on the field to celebrate after the game so the Indy players jumped the fence and celebrated with their fans. A scene I will never forget.

  10. What exactly qualified him for the Combine MVP? his play during the 1 on 1s? 40 time? bench press?

I guess my question is what were his times, etc.

Was anyone else there from region 6?

I was not there but I heard from some that were. I don't know his times, but he had decent times in the combine drills, but impressed the UC staff during the 1on1's and passing portion of the combine. I was also told his his leadership ability and competitive spirit stood out as well according to those that observed the camp. Independence had 6 or so players attend. Not sure what others from 6 were there.

They have a website, but nothing on it from this combine yet.

  11. And on a side note congrats party on the signing in your family. I look forward to hearing good things of him and Wayne Coffee from Centennial over the next few years up there in Kentucky.

Thanks Sleeper. Wayne and my boy played on the same team with the Cowboys. I talked to Wayne and he says he can't wait to have some blocking for a change. Wayne is a good kid and was a good running back without a lot of help in his career.

  12. It was this past weekend in Franklin. Anyone have insight to the top players and schools represented? Anything worth mentioning. I know it was a sloppy, wet, weekend.

I heard Alex Heckman (QB Independence HS) was recognized as the Combine MVP in the morning session.

  13. Thank you Overseascoach for the support. There is good community support overall. One that this fan is very proud to be a part of. Yes, these players play from hard from kickoff to the final buzzer on the clock. Yes, they do love the game for what it is and play for pride in school and their self. Yes, maybe with the hope of continuing it beyond HS added to their desire. From what I've seen the coaches do play the best players on friday night. They do make tough decisions that apparently hurt the feelings of some. Is that not what coaches are to do. Make the tough calls.

Tnsparty...all the best to you and your family. Thank you for your support over the past four years. It will be missed. I hope your son has great success at Campbellsville.

Thanks Nation. I will continue to support IHS football, but will have a new team to support also. It has been a challenging and fun 4 years. Lots of highs and lows. Helping start a program was tough, but with the help of a lot of people, IHS football was left in good standing. They have a good group of kids and coaches. The coaches do make decisions that upset some, but it has to be realized the decisions they make are for the betterment of the team not individuals. They make mistkes sometimes, like everyone else does. I have certainly questioned coaches decisions in the past, but not on the forum. Also thanks for the comment about my son going to Campbellsville to play football. We are excited at the opportunity for him. Unfortunately at this time though only 3 of the seniors have signed to play. Hopefully more will get the opportunity. There were some very talented players on last year's team.

  14. You're right time will tell.

    Questions I have:

Who is the leading candidate to be the kicker this coming year? Ty Stannard?

Are there any transfer players that could legitimately have an impact on the team this coming fall?

How has spring lifting/conditioning been coming along?

Either Stannard or the Leake kid will probably kick I would think. Not sure about the other stuff. I would bet that Coach Bobby is putting them through the paces in off season workouts though.

  15. You can even decipher 'intentions' on this site? Amazing! And by the way, there were plenty of other good atheletes who got 'screwed' by the various coaching staffs at Independence over the years (Emory Martin would figure prominantly here). Nick Smith is just the latest example if that helps to clarify my 'intentions'. And when you think about it, you can add Zach Cordelles' name there too. Who knows what he was told by Smith to get him to Independence. That kind of 'coaching', I'm sure, really helped develop his moral character.

Please stop with the drama queen act. The difference is that instead of posting it to a forum, most talk with the coaches personally. You tell me I am wrong in deciphering your intentions and then your last statement backs up what I said /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />. There are 22 starting positions and there will always be those that think that someone that isn't starting is better than someone that is. That's the way it goes. If someone doesn't like it they have options. They can talk to the coaches, quit or move. Football like life isn't always fair. Oh and I forgot the last option, you can come on a forum and complain about it.

I hope TNSPARTY does not mind me jumping on you. Do you really think that Coaches intentionally "screw" kids over? Unlike your job if the coach is unsuccessfull he will be fired and let go. Coaches play whoever gives the team the best chance to win. Case in point Independence under Emory ( who I love ) went 1-9 Cordell goes 7-4 and wins the Offenseive player of the year in the region. Under Heckman - they go to the state finals. The one common denominator here- Nick Smith served as a back up to all three. He was also given the opportunity to play in games with all three and only once ( Dickson Cnty) did he perform well.

Why would I care? Jump away. At least when you post something you back it up with stats and facts.

  16. Threats now? Really? What's next? Black hand notes? And just how is this personal aside from you and others casting aspersions and such in my direction. Am I not to take such behavior as personal? Am I not supposed to reply in kind? Or am I supposed to just be 'chased' off the forum? I simply wanted to discuss the possibility of Independence repeating their success this year when they won't have the same set of circumstances as last year and all of this started. Oh well. I guess that's just how things go in here. What a place.

And your welcome for the new title. Glad to hear we agree on Shepperd warranting time at wideout. Hope it happens for the sake of whoever the QB happens to be.

NO threats from me. You had no intentions of discussing anything except how Nick got srewed by the coaching staff and wasn't given a fair chance. Casting aspersions? You sound like an educated person. You sound like a teacher. Reply however you want. If you don't like how it is here then don't read it. I went a long time without posting and now I know why. Have fun at Indy this year.

  17. It's funny how one can be wrong so many times in such little word usage.

I see Independence fighting for that 4th seed in the region. I think Smith at QB, Heckman at RB, Sheppard and Williams at WR, and Berry anchoring the o-line will give the offense all they need to compete on a night to night basis in region 6. I think the one position that will not be replaced more than any other from last year or the history of the program (with exception to Joshua Grigsby 2 years ago) for that matter is Consiglio at line backer. His mental aspect he brought to the field isn't made or molded in one off season.

You are right it is funny how one can be so wrong, just read your post. I do agree with you about Consiglio though. He will be harder to replace than Grigsby was though. Not only was Ryan the QB of the defense he was a more than adequate backup for Pettigrew at RB. I still don't see Heckman at RB this year, but time will tell.

  18. Sorry, I'm new to this whole 'posting' thing and didn't realize that you were the keeper of the rules. Well, at least you recognized the language! Maybe that's why you run things here, eh? Opps, that's Canadian, isn't it? Can we still have credibility using a Canadaian expression? I thought a 'forum' was simply about expressing your opinion. I didn't know it was to try and 'influence' coachs, etc. Wow! What power! So much to learn, so little time. Please, oh wonderous keeper of the rules, 'post' a copy of what we can and can not say so we can all jump on this bandwagon and not upset anyone. It would be very enlightning and appreciated.

No rules from me. Post what you want. Same goes for me though so for every stupid thing you say I can have the opinion it is stupid and tell you that.

  19. You're right! I believe Cordelle was 2nd or 3rd on the depth carts as I recall also last Spring. And who started the first game of the season? Opps! Sorry, I posted without knowing what I was 'allowed' to post. Still waiting for instructions on opinion regulation. Please advise ASAP.

I like how you handle someone disagreeing with you. You play the forum martyr. I will give you no advice. It is too much fun watching you make an idiot out of yourself on your own. Now play the martyr card again so everyone will feel sorry for you. Everyone is probably the wrong word, maybe I should have said Sleeper.
