  3. QUOTE(proudmomma @ May 4 2007 - 03:40 PM) 826451797[/snapback]gshoops75,

YBOA is a class organazation and is very well run. Our team went and won the nationals in 2001 and it was good competition and well worth the trip. It was what our team needed as we couldn't get qualified in AAU. AAU and YBOA are like the high school level compared to a rec league. Personally after we've been AAU no i wouldn't go back just because that once you've played at a higher level it's not wise to go back because you'll only as good as the best player your playing with. I say that now with a high school player but if i had a middle school team yes i'd give it a try, it just might be what your team needs to set them on fire and get them prepared to play high school ball. hope that helps and good luck to you and your team on whatever road you take.

We went as a 12 year old team and found the tourney well run. It was good experience for the kids and when we played the 12 AAU nationals had just finished and most of the teams in the top 10 came straight from the AAU nationals. Thus in our experience which occurred 3 years ago the talent was good also. Be carefull of the YBOA approved housing and don't wait until the last minute. Good Luck.

  5. I wanted to comment on the "joke" scored by Father Ryan. It was a direct kick from about 38 yards at somewhat of an angle. The keeper was playing the near post (as she should), the ball was struck well with good pace, good height and in a very good spot - to the far post. If not for the keeper touching the ball from my angle the ball would have ended not in the upper 90 but more like the upper 80 and in the side netting(side netting is where ended in the air). Another factor was the ball was struck by a left footed player and as the ball approached the keeper it was also moving away from her as well. All in all it was a well played ball and a tough play for the keeper. I have seen alot high shots give female keepers more trouble over the years than male keepers for some reason.

It was a pretty even game, both teams had some chances and both teams trying to find their stride for the upcoming season. I would suspect both will make noise in the playoffs.

Are you sure it was about 38 yards and not about 39 or perhaps 37 yards lets check the replay! Geez its a scrimmage chill!

  6. Before the AAU season is a distant memory wanted to know what tournaments had some college scouts in attendance this year in the state of TN.

What would you recommend to a 15 team next year that has 3 players with small school talent and would like to attend some tourneys with scouts. Team has finished top 3 in Div 2 last couple of years and attended Div 1 nationals as a younger group.

  7. I told you that the HEAt or the Fire team would go and I was right. The Heat went to the Championship and the Fire went to the number 3 spot. besides, what do you care about any of the teams anyway. :thumb: I wanted either one of them to win because they are from East Tn.

I did not think that the Fire won any pool games, and did they replace a team that did not come back on sunday?

  9. Thanks for the info. I can pass that along to them. Are the Hoopstars Div. I or Div. II? I know they all want to play Div. I. Any other info available will be appreciated.

Try to send you an e-mail to provide some info on the Hoopstars. You do not have your ability to recieve e-mail turned on. If your interested send me message with your e-mail address.

  10. What are you looking for we have some girls in the SE TN area that are looking for a team closer than the team that they have been playing on. We have seen the Hoopstars play in the past and you seem to have a very good team. You generally seem to only carry around 10 and seem to play them all is that still your approach?

    Thanks

Yes we will still play with no more than 10 players, and all will be good enough to play more than token minutes. Still believe you have to get in the game when it has'nt been decided to get better.

We are still looking for 2 players specifically a 2 and a 3.

E-mail me if you are interested!

  11. From what I understand, they have had several offers from a variety of teams. I think one has committed out of Middle TN, while the others are weighing out their options.

I know the Cleveland Hoopstars 14U are looking for a couple of players, they have several very good Freshmen from the surrounding area, they might want to contact them if they are interested.

  12. Be accurate. WV JV did beat Central twice but Central did beat them once at Central. WV JV was not undefeated.

Okay lets be accurate there pumba and quit getting your facts from Timon, he seems to be giving you inaccurate info.

WV and Central JV never played this season. WV and Central Freshmen did play 3 times with WV freshmen winning 2x including a christmas tournament. WV freshmen lost twice this year once to Cental (at Central) and once to Brainerd after Brainerd had some additional players added to the Freshmen team that WV had originally beat by 30.

WV JV team was undefeated and only had 2 marginally close games with Bradley.

Those pumba are the accurate facts now go eat bugs.

  13. I think Walker Valley have a great freshman goup, Lacey Allen, Brooke Hamby, Laura Whitehead, Paula White, and Kasey Brownfield. They did pretty good against the greatly touted McMinn central. W.V.'s JV were undefeated

This is a very good group of girls the 5 listed could really be a force in the future. I have seen all play AAU ball also and they are very good with their various teams. I hope they get their chance over the next few years to prove what a good group they can be.

  14. nobody said on here that Mcminn was better or that Bradley was better than Cumberland or Cleveland. Somebody said that these two were sideshows and I think that is a little bit off. In District 5AAA anything can happen. At this point I would go with McMinn and Cumberland as the two strongest teams. Your point of WV being as good as any of the above is a little off base. They beat none of the above at any time except early in the season beat CHS without Simpson. I think these four are fairly evenly matched but would say that Cleveland is third best and Bradley fourth best in the district but that doesn't mean that any of them can't beat any of them next week. BTW, have you watched Leah Frazier and Shonda Smith lately? Two of the best players and most underrated in the district. They would start for any of the above teams. Harris would too.

No someone stated that the 4 teams are very close and someone else stated that BCHS and McMinn are sideshows. If you look I disagreed with both those statements, but I think at the end of the season CHS was much improved by their 10+ point victories over BCHS and the fact that they did beat CCHS. Ibelieve that they are basically 10 points better than everyone else on a neutral court. Of course on any given night anything can happen! I will pick CCHS by 3, but would rather see CHS win.

  15. A side show??? Ask Coach Powell if she views either as a "side show." Ask CCHS if they are looking past McMinn and Bradley in the region? I doubt it. Well, Cumberland beat Bradley by six one time and the other BCHS wins if they hit fouls shots. Cleveland and Bradley split this year. You must have missed that game! McMinn played Cleveland very close throughout the year and until the final quarter last night the game could have gone either way, so to say that CCHS is head and shoulders above them. I don't think so! Last week at Cleveland, the score was tied after three quarters between the Bearettes and the Lady Raiders. Desperation fouls led to a midleading score.Last night's score certainly does not indicate how the game went. So, to say that any team is head and shoulders above another is ridiculous. I would say, where have YOU been this season? It certainly has not been watching these teams play. It could possibly be McMinn and Bradley playing for region championship. I will go as far as to predict that one of those two will definitely be there! :thumb:

Think to state the BCHS and McMinn are sideshows is just a slightly larger stretch than stating the the 4 teams are about equal. So your both wrong, go to your rooms. CCHS is certainly 8-12 points better than either BCHS or McMinn, and neither team held their homecourt advantage against CCHS. CHS was playing much better at the end of the year than early on, as their young posts matured even more and they have Kerry completely back. I think CCHS and CHS is basically decided by 4 points either way at this point. The close arguments don't work unless you are willing to state that BCHS was basically no better than WVHS as WVHS lost both very close games, and had WV hit their free throws they would have won. TNWAREAGLE if you are willing to state that your 2 wins over WV don't prove you are a better than them, than I willing to say that CCHS and CHS are not 10 point better teams than BCHS and McMinn.

  16. The Tennessee Trojans and Nashville Yankees will be hosting the Tennessee Trojan Hoops Classic IV to be held in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee on March 10 - 12, 2006. Each team will be guaranteed 3 games. The format of the tournament is pool play into a single elimination tournament with awards for 1st and 2nd place.

The Trojan Hoops Classic has grown into a huge success in just 3 years. Due to the increased inquiries and limited space it appears that we will have to limit the number of teams this year. So get your information in early to secure your team's spot.

Please contact Bobby Lee if you need additional information. His phone number is home - (615) 444-4763 and email is rtlee@comcast.net.

What age groups? starting and stopping clock?

  17. It would seem to me that Coach Quirk should be screaming at his buddies Bob Williams and David Tucker. His "friends" are the ones recruiting players from McMinn County High such as Calhoun Elementary players (Trotter/Gutherie several more) and Athens Jr. High (Buckley girl) to Bradley County.

McMinn has lost a lot of tallent from Calhoun to Walker Valley. They have not lost the talent to McMinn Central. Even if that statement was true, at least they are loyal to McMinn County.

Come on Quirk, you know the integrity of Coach Armstrong and Coach Morgan, I can't believe after all the years you taught with them, you could or would even make that stupid statement.

Fans have gotten tired of the crybabying from McMinn, first Bob Williams, Keith Elliott and now you.

Even though they are good kids, many in Bradley county would rather see them not cross the river either. Go to any McMinn County school if you are from McMinn Co. and let Bradley co tax dollars support our students only.

In fact maybe you could recruit some of our kids to McMinn, don't see that happen much at all, how come?

  18. I want to take this opportunity to do some more of the "setting straight." I'm not a member of this "Blue Nation" of which you speak, and I do appreciate you approving my post by stressing that you "could care less whether CHS or MCHS wins the game."

Beyond that, the post in reference to the "dirty play" of number 15 was indeed uncalled for. However, it is a great fallacy to express your dismay with another's argument by attempting to say that the opposing side has a similar tendency, in this instance, for "dirty play." That is not unlike saying that it is OK to rob a bank because it's been done before.

How was Chicago? Was there any "dirty play" there? Was the officiating pristine?

Chicago was great but my memory of it is getting a little fuzzy since I nor any of my family has been there in about 3 years. I should have a buisness trip there this year though. Is there a restraunt that you would like me to visit since you seem to have some hangup on Chicago.

Your not getting Chicago and Cleveland confused are you, though Cleveland and Chicago are both large northern cities they are some distance apart, and yes there is a much smaller Cleveland in this area. I'm not sure if there are any "dirty plays " in Chicago currently you might check the net since you are in to that kind of thing. Not sure there is anything pristine in Chicago, but you seem to be more involved and interested in Chicago than I!

  19. WOW, it always goes back to McMinn Fire. Is that a Junior High School in McMinn County? The reality is that when a AA squad defeats a AAA squad when the result of the first game between the two was a 40 pt. win for the AAA team, there always seems to be an incredible amount backlash from the defeated team. Comments like "the game doesn't matter" or "you got all the calls" begin to surface. I believe that when you win, that is THE ONLY time you should state complaints about officiating. Otherwise, it is the epitome of losing sorely.

In the end, only one question should be asked and that is this: "Do the Cleveland Lady Raiders need to drive 600+ plus miles to the Windy City to suffer a loss or could they just simply travel 38 miles to Englewood to chalk up that L?" Sometimes high expecations breed underachievement.

Oh yes, and let us not mistake defensive intensity for "dirty" play. Get tougher, I'm sure Chicago expected it.

I'm glad you set me straight if it were not for the Blue Nation we would all not have a clue as regards Bball, but luckily we have you to keep us all in line.

By the way I could care less whether CHS or MCHS wins the game.

However It was posts by those of the Blue talking about CHS and identifying players by specific numbers and claiming that they were dirty players.

Again the group of Freshmen /or Fire players have a reputation for playing beyond just physical play so don't post here crying about that!

Anyway good luck to both teams in their districts!

  20. I can't believe that anyone involved with the McMinn fire or the Central Freshmen would talk about another team being dirty or too physical. The Central Freshmen / McMinn Fire group have a reputation for playing that way. So just understand that when someone does it back no ones feeling sorry for that group. And 50 fouls shots would seem like the refs must been calling fouls on the Cleveland players even when they were on the bench and already fouled out.

When you come back from that large a hole at home and have that many fouls called I don't think crying about the refs and the other team seem logical.
