  1. Some say if you play baskettball,it is your life. Well, If you choose it and it is a way of life. They are viqorous practice's nearly everyday. Weight training, then ball games that are rough and tough. Then here we go they have homework and some still have chore's at home church and social functions then boyfriend/girlfriend and we wonder why there are injuries not enough time to heal is the whole thing. These kid's are pushed to their limits with no time to rest properly. Tired wore out player's are more apt to have injuries. I feel for these kid's..They work harder than most do at work. If your committed to play sports of any kind you gotta ask your self sometime is it worth it in the end. What Happens when you get a lil age on you? What's your future after ball? Is there life after sports? You make it what you will. My hopes are the serious ball player takes care of their self. With proper training and education you can have a healthy life during and after ball.

That is why Pre-season workouts are VERY important. Getting the body used to the daily "grind" of HS athletics is very important.

  2. It would not be for us to gaze at, it would be for JPII since its been a long time since you have seen it and a good chance its gonna be longer still before you see it again. Come back tator tot. But back to basketball, I heard the trainer had to work overtime to try and heal the scars from the Ensworth game. Its devastating when you play a kitty weak schedule and then have to face the real competition. But don't get mad and boycott the fish fry, we gotta lotta fish. And there's a new addition to the desert menu, its humble pie made especially for guess who. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

"Kitty weak schedule" since Ryan's schedule is sooo much tougher

    11. St. Andrew's - Sewanee 31.0%

  3. I guess we better save some dessert for the JPII fans, looks like the sky fell on them at Ensworth. I believe they are headed toward a double whammy, like say two losses in a row. Perhaps Ryan will display the Bishop's Cup at the gym for the JPII fans to gaze at. At least they will have something to look forward to. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

See, thats the difference between JPII fans and Ryan fans. Ya'll would display the Bishops Cup and gaze at it during a basketball game. Sad, just sad.

  4. Some people think that some girls are more prone to damaging the ACL than others. Prevention can help reduce injury to the ACL, but is not guaranteed. A good strength program along with proper warm up and stretching will help decrease the number of injuries, not only to the ACL but to other body parts as well. The muscles that help take the stress off of the knee joint are the quads, hamstring, hip abductors, hip adductors, hip extensors, hip flexors, and recently found out that the glutes also help. Also, especially in basketball, athletes have to be taught to land "soft". By this I mean to not land with your legs fully extended (straight). This helps reduce the number of hyperextension injuries in the knee, which is one mechanism that injures the ACL. Foot orthotics have been shown in the past to help reduce leg injuries such as shin splints, knee and ankle injuries, back injuries, and hip injuries. Think of the body as a stack of blocks. If all the blocks are straight then the stack is stable, if one block is off then the whole stack is unstable. Since the base of the body starts at the feet then you should protect your feet by taking good care of them. Identify if you have flat feet or high arches. If you do then a good orthotic would be a good decision. Now, just because you do all of this does not mean you will NEVER have a knee injury. Some people have asked me if there is a brace that will eliminate ACL injuries. The answer is NO. There is not a brace that will COMPLETELY eliminate ACL injuries, but there are braces to help reduce ACL injuries.

  5. This is a very logical technical subject and one which all should read. If there is a Physical Trainer on line that could walk this subject thru and will take some time, please post some infor. maybe someone from Chattanoog, lebanon or Murfreesboro would be of great help.

First it's not "Trainer" its "Athletic Trainer". The etiology (study of the cause of an illness or injury) with female ACL injuries has been studied for quite sometime now. There has been research done as to why females are more prone for non-contact ACL injuries as opposed to their male counterparts. First, females have an increased Q-angle in their knee (this angle is measured by drawing a line from the ASIS through the center of the knee cap, and another line drawn from the tibial tubercle(the notch below your knee cap) through the center of the knee cap. then is measured and normally its 17 degrees plus or minus 3 degrees) Females also have wider hips for pregnancy reasons and this causes their knee to have a more valgus (knock-kneed) look. Also when ACL injuries occur its from a hyperextension of the knee. Another mechanism is when an athlete gets a blow to the outside of the knee and completely tears the MCL and the blow keeps moving the knee to an internal movement then you get damage to the ACL. Prevention is key, but not always 100% guarenteed you won't get injured.

  6. I haven't seen a post by you since early, early football season, when you said the Knights have a good chance of making the playoffs in football. I don't blame you for not making a prediction on the basketball game after your football prediction. Whooooaaaaa Hoooooooo Hooooooo. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  7. A delicious fish fry will be held starting at 5:30pm before the Lady Irish-JPII girls game. Everybody come on out and eat a good meal and then watch the Lady Irish beat the Knights. Comments from anyone. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

    Should be a good atmosphere, and good food /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> ... I hope it's a good game. The Knights are playing really well right now. They have stepped up their defense!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    Northeast Region

WOW that team from Ohio who is #1 beat 9 Nationally and regional ranked teams this year.. Can you say strength of schedule!!

  9. If they brought most of their guys from last year, they are certainly the team to beat. Ravenwood may be the best all-around team I've ever seen on the high school level though, which sorta suprised me because they lost alot of key guys last year.

January 25th JPII and Ravenwood face off!! JPII is outscoring their opponents 69-10 this year!!

  10. Someone brought up this idea a while back and I was all for it. I'm a former Centennial player, and hockey is one of the most followed sports here.

Best Hockey teams in the State who are they? My opinion is Pope John Paul II HS ..

  11. This could be a real problem for my sons school this year. I believe the dance team

was allowed to use the mats for their practice last year?? I suggest that a mandate from the state

should be sent to each and every school forcing "documentation" of daily mat cleaning before

every practice or match! They force the weight mgt. program with documentation for health reasons,

    why not mandate cleaning protocals????

Waiting for the first wrestler to go down should not be an issue.

Every possible preventative should be used to fight this infection.

Numerous wrestlers were fighting ringworm last year. We need to become more proactive about

    this potential problem!

Although Staph is a problem, MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) Is getting more attention now days. The reason MRSA is getting more attention is because MRSA is Resistant to antibiotics. The same antibiotics that are used to treat Staph are non effective to MRSA which is why its deadly. The ways to prevent this are quite simple, but can be complicated when you go to another school's gym and they do not practice this same hygiene as you do. Clean mats BEFORE and AFTER practice and matches. Make kids take a shower BEFORE they leave the school. Make them wash their practice gear (including head gear) after EVERY practice.

  12. Tonight on ESPN2 at 8pm EST/7 CST, Cy Fair plays Cy Falls at Berry Stadium (probably the nicest high school stadium in the country). Both teams play their home games there.

Cy Fair has RB Sam McGuffie who is somewhat of an internet legend. He ran for 3,212 yards last year in 5A Texas football (arguably the best high school football division in the country). He is committed to Michigan.

    wow thats a nice stadium

  13. Your absolutly right. We do have differences of opinion, but don't get on here and say that band would lower the standard if it were called a sport. It takes more mentality to play band anyday than it does a lot of sports out there!!! They're not on a level anyway. One is just as good as the other.

    BAND A SPORT?!?! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> NO ITS NOT!!!

  14. WOOPS!!!!!!!!! NUMBER 4 NSCAA/adidas?®National RankingsHigh School Fall Rankings GirlsNational 10th Poll - November 15, 2005 Rank School Prev. W-L-T 1 Owen J. WOOPS!!! Check at the FINAL Poll.. JPII was # 1..Thank you we have the plaque to prove it..

Pretty simple...you said the best team should have one in 04/05 and 06. Makes no sense. I let another poster tell me PJII was number one in 05 and took he/she at their word/ They were 4th and had a less wins and 2 losses more that SAA. I put the record up to avoid further misstatements. I don't who you are trying to support or the point you wish to make, but SAA in 2006 either beat your team or beat a team that beat you or could have. Use your own facts if you want to make a point. BTW, Harding was outstanding. Why did you leave out the big games? You said who was not, but couldn't say who was.........ENOUGH. You win if you don't reply. I win if you do. Your choice. I'm going to watch soccer now.

JPII did not have 2 losses in 2005. That was 2 ties.. and in the final poll JPII was # 1

  15. Yes on undefeated..yes on State Champ..close on National rank-# 3 which by the way #1 was 23-0, #2 was 20-0 and # 3 was 23-0--so I guess SAA tied # 1's record....yes on two state records....yes on one goal against in regular season....yes on one goal in post season. I think in total SAA scored 134 goals and had two against. One all american. one academic all american, one MVP (Katy Hunter) plus numerous all tournament/ all state / all region / and all city honors. Five playing D1 in college...Two at Vanderbilt-One at Texas A & M, one at Austin Peay, and one at U of M.

While it's fun to compare the great teams of the past and not to take anything away from their great successes, the times have a changed and a champion team of today would probably beat a great team of the past.

Yeah since the game of Soccer has changed so much since 2005 And "Close" to #1 is NOT #1

  16. Excellent post Laban. Just a little bias regarding the Franklin squad pick...LOL. I agree with the pick of St. Agnes, based upon their results. To allow 1 goal through and entire season is mind boggling. While they may not have played a devastating schedule every game, they had to play within their division and outside that they played some very challenging teams.

I think it is very difficult to compare the teams of 92 and back with todays teams, due to the increased parity across the state. Back in those days 15 years ago there were a lot fewer girls playing club soccer from the age of 9 till seniors in High school. Now it is commonplace in the top programs. So that makes it much more difficult to finish the season undefeated. Now you have to bring your A game every game to win. Did the 2005 JPII team go undefeated? I don't know.

With respect to national and regional rankings, I think they are very flawed, nice but flawed, because all states do not play during the same season.

Yes the 2005 JPII team did go undefeated?
