  1. You're right, I don't get it. I don't get how "Johnny Rural" is working harder than me and thus deserving of any advantages over me.

Maybe the TSSAA should make rules where private schools have to start spotting public schools points when they play each other! Or, public schools get a 18m head start in the 100m race! Is that fair play?

You don't get it. They don't want spotted any points. They want to play only other public schools only.

What's the big deal of private schools playing other private schools and public playing public schools.

The only reason they are grouped together is for TSSAA is because of $$$.

Enough said and I am done on the subject.

    :thumb:

  2. You are quite a character! Your thoughts about how people get their money are priceless. The funny thing is, 99% of the "Johnny Rurals" I know are pumping gas and drinking beer right now. Meanwhile, I'm trying to prepare for the LSAT ( you know, law school ), keep my GPA up at an "Ivy league caliber" college, and do charity and volunteer work all while playing college football. Oh yeah, I've got to figure out a way to pay for law school since I don't have time to have a job. Yet, somehow I still find time to deal with the likes of you expecting me to feel sympathetic for Johnny Public. :thumb: This is America, if someone wants a good life all they have to do is work for it. Just like if a school wants a good football program all they have to do is work for it. Hmm, sensing a trend here? The good football programs in this state are the programs that have worked for it (MBA, BA, CPA, Alcoa, Riverdale, Milan, etc.), and the people with money are the people who have worked for it (whether or not attended private school and/or they choose to send their kids to private school).

"working hard for 'some' people" ? Give me a break. Here's an illustration, not to long ago I was at home hanging out with a group of my "private school friends." There were fourteen of us, and twelve were/are planning on entering Law or Medical school. Half of us are also college athletes. But, I'm sure we'll all end up spilling hot coffee on ourselves so we can sue someone and get our money that way, right?

I apologize since this post/rant has nothing to do with multipliers, splits, or "fair play," but it has become pretty clear to me that the real issue is not what constitutes fair play, it is socioeconomic jealousy and the desire of some people to have success without working for it! And by the way, I do not believe that theoretical line is drawn between public and private schools.

{blinders} you still just don't get it, you just want to attack. LOL Have a great Christmas and if I ever get coffee split on me, I will be sure to tell the kid, like I did the last time, don't worry everybody has a day. And leave a tip anyway.

    LOL

And yes this does have to do with 'fair play' -- you just dont get it. LOL

  3. Msquacks: So, tell me, how exactly do you think the rich folks get their money? You seem to be implying that people with money just found a briefcase of millions on the side of the road! I'll give you a hint: rich people work their butts off so they can be rich!

LOL Boy, I wish money could be found in a briefcase! LOL And yes, rich people make money in all kinds of ways, yes your right by working their butts off. But if you want to get technical they make it other ways also, screwing the next guy over, stealing from the other guy, turning a blind eye to his fellow being, waiting for grandpa and grandma to knock off :thumb: , or better yet, when mom and dad take the plunge and YES working hard for some people.

So please, I was being a very level headed when I wrote my first entry so dont demean yourself by acting like a butt.

And a little hint even people who cann't make ends meet work their butts off also!

I still say the TSSAA should look at placing the private and public in different divisions.

Johnny in rural boonies USA gets out of school at 2:3pm--practice until 5:3pm run home get a shower, grab something to eat--head to work and work 6 pm to 11 pm or 12 am. Get back up at 5 am and start the day over. Plus works weekends.

Private Privy ? Mom or Dad Got a buck? I have known people give their kids debt cards and put a weekly allowance in it!! Now Tell me this isnt true! Plus they get their cars and insurance, clothes, mad money!! (And I am not stupid and realize that not ALL parents are this way with their kids)

I don't be grudge them! This is what THEIR PARENT's work hard for to give their kids the best they can afford.

But Please dont play ignorant and say that the field is equal. The schools should be divided. :D

  4. Exactly what are you saying??? I don`t understand.

Most kids in the rural areas have to pay for their own cars, insurance, clothes, sport fees and such. Work jobs and practice their sports, and not miss ONE practice or they lose their spot.

I don't see a lot of kids, who's PARENT'S can afford to put them in private schools, HAVING to hold down jobs like most rural kids. I can just say "Nice BMW and cool threads! Or How was the vacation in Denver sking or sunning in Florida?

As you can tell by the last quote I made I KNOW I am being a smart a$$- but I really do not hold it against the private schooled kids for their PARENTS wealth. I just want it to be known that MOST kids in the rural areas HAVE to work AND make sure they don't miss practice if they want to play. It's not a matter of choice for most and most kids in the rural area cann't run to their parents and expect them to foot the bill for a car payment and a night out with the buddies or girl friend.

SO I do applaud the rural students who do work hard and also make time for sports!

    That's my point.

And there ever is a vote on private vs public.

I think they should be two different divisions.

    Have a great Christmas everyone!

  5. This statement raises some questions for me. At my school we always have sports after the end of the last period. In soccer for instance we usually start at 2:45pm and work them until at least 5:30pm. Football goes a lot longer on some days can be as late as 7:30pm.

I would be interested to know the averages for practice for most schools. I don't believe it is a Public/Private issue here. It is linked directly to how hard the coaches will push the athletes to get better. When I was working with our girls soccer team in a scrimmage with Hillsboro this August, I noticed that the Hillsboro Football team were already in pads when we arrived in the heat of the day (approx 98 degrees). They were still there working hard when we left the scrimmage approx 3 hours later. I don't think it is a coincidence that Hillsboro is playing in the 4A Championship game in the Boro.

Good coaches, public or private don't have to tolerate kids who won't put in the time. We have a simple rule for all our sports, if you don't stay the whole practice, you forfeit the right to play the next game.

Your right about the time a player attends a practice. But again a lot of kids in the public forum dont have parents that can buy them cars, pay their car insurance and give them $50 to run to the mall or just 'hang' with their buddies, or even a cell phone.

A lot of the rural area kids have jobs and they pay for this themselves. Their parents are both usually working to just keep a roof over their heads and HOPE that their kids can get a scholarship to attend college.

So I applaud these PUBLIC SCHOOL kids who go the extra mile of working hard at pratice and drag in late to get ready to go to work and work on their weekends and keep their grades up.

Everyone gets upset when people say Private -VS- Public schools. This will be that way until the TSSAA get off the $$$ greed they make out of it and classify schools where they belong, different divisions. I think Private Schools would love the challenge of playing in their OWN divisons, just as public would theirs. But again it all stems down to how much of $$$ the TSSAA is willing to give up in order for this spat to stop between everyone.

Have a Great Christmas Everyone!

  6. Region 6: East Hickman, Fairview, Harpeth, Hickman County, Lewis County, Loretto, Richland

Well it's going to be an interesting season next year. It will be really interesting seeing East Hickman team's first game with us! I know there are a lot of kids that don't play because its hard for them to get home from practice from Centerville. This is great they will be given an opportunity to play!

 Welcome and its great to be back playing with some old favorites! See you next season folks!!

  7. his name is Grant Heintzman, strangely enough he had the exact same injury to his other arm not but a year ago. everything is completely broken (with the exception of skin) and he is probably through with surgery by now. they planned on placing pins and he'll be in a cast and sling for a while. we're praying for ya grant!

How terrible! What school does he play for! Our prayers are with him and his family. I knew this was going to be a hard loss for LC. This GP team is good. When we played LC they were tough but we out played them. Our team dropped the ball when it was important and LC was rewarded with a narrow win. This is the facts of playing the game--you mess up it gives the other team the advantage. Next friday is the game of all-- GP and CPA should prove to be a awesome game. Good luck to both the teams. Keep your heads up LC you only lost by 5 more points than us. AND everyone has lost to GP so far!

  8. I think that Goodpasture will win this game. But I don't think they are going to wear down Lewis County's line. They are huge. Several over 300 lbs. Their run defense is their strong suit. There is a reason I asked if they could pass. That is their achilles heel. You can pass on them. So Lewis will need to put pressure on the qb.

    I say 31-10 Goodpasture.

Yes Papatiger, LC does have some big boys but GP has big honking boys and they are toned! Built like brick houses! I dont think GP is going to skunk LC- I dont think they are going to risk their key players getting hurt before they really need them. Like I said before, I have seen both teams play--I say GP wins this one hands down.

  9. Glad to help. Stay away from Ebay, it is for sellers only. Those "packages" are a rip-off. Stan is correct, you can't do much better than B&H. Stan is incorrect when he says bigger is better. Maybe in somethings, but in lenses, it is the f speed. You can have a 100-300mm f/5.6 and need a flash to see anything in the picture. Where a 70-200 f/2.8 won't need one. Some schools won't allow flash indoors. Get the fast lense, cost more, but it is worth it.

Ok Thanks so much! I will not go on ebay! :)B) saving pennies now! LOL

Keep warm friday night folks!! Woo! Hoo! MORE FOOTBALL!! LOL Drive safely!! B)

  10. Wow! Thanks a lot EVERYONE! So much to learn! LOL I am going to have to hit Pawn shops for items though (still feeding football players) LOL I can start a bit at a time! I appreciate everyone's help! Have you all priced on Ebay. They seem to have some stuff there. You just have to really watch who you buy from.

See you all at the games!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Hey MtSports! That last topic got shut down so I thought I would thank you here. I guess I will have to save up a little more $$! :thumb: I appreciate the advice. I guess I will have to stick with my little pocket warmer for a short time more! LOL :(

Don't let complaints get you down either. I had a parent complaining to me about the meals I was serving-granted no one else would do the freshman and JV meals, I saw a need and filled it. It just so happened a nice gentleman who use to coach was within hearing distance and came up to me and said "You will never make 100% of the people happy, just do the best you can!" And he was and is right! I just wish I had your skills! See you at the Games! :) Thanks again!

  12. The picture not being in the paper was my fault...not Justin lambs. Bias reporting I don't understand where that comes from, but they can fight their own battles..Mrs McKennon...you have a nice young man, I consider him a friend too...Was being dramatic about quiting...Ya couldn't drag me away until football is over..Gave up on pleasing everyone in town long ago..See you all friday night..please refrain from throwing large objects at the Herald staff..might miss us and hit one of the players...HaHa ( If I did quit it would be to join the WPT )

Whodathoughtit..I don't know who you are, but come down and say hello !!

Your the person who I need to talk to. I want to take pictures of our team also. I need some advice on what merchandise to start with. I have between $300 to $500 to spend on a digital camera (the prices are starting to come down). I am using one now but it blurs on action. I cannot very well yell out on the field "HOLD THAT SPOT!" CLICK! LOL Can you recommend a good starter camera that won't blur out so easy on actions and good to use at night games in my price range? I appreciate the help. ;) Thanks!

  13. Same to you Msquacks! After reading some of this about both schools I guess the teams should feel fortunate to be allowed to play in the play-offs. I think its a great experience for both sets of young men..regardless of the outcome.

I have been reading so much neg. its a shame. If so and so was playing here or the weather was this, or if this was last year or 20 years ago this would have happen.....wish they would just deal with the now.....CONGRADS TO BOTH TEAMS FOR MAKING IT THIS FOR.....And again... ENJOY!

So true! I was just home a week ago (washington/idaho area) and football is ok but its not played with so much as heart as here. I see how fortunate these players are to be playing and so many people doing for them. Up there they are striving for their kids to be 'politically correct' rather than leave the politics to the adults and enjoy this time in their lives-- your only a kid once and you only get to play high school football 4 years!

Boys! Have the time of your life and relish every minute of it! But remember its ok to stretch a hand out and help your opposing team player up- he is giving his all too. :) My husband's family is from the good 'ol south, and I thank God I can raise my boys here! God's Country! Football Country! LOL

Again-- Good luck EVERYONE! Nothing set in stone until it's done! :thumb:

  14. GOOD POINTS.......and great post! Lewis county operates pretty much the same way.....you have to give it to those coaches and volunteers. Hope we just have a good and safe game......and no matter how it ends....all players hold there heads up and enjoy the moment they have just experienced...no matter how it turns out......GOODPASTURE awaits !

Thank you! Good Luck to all! :thumb:

  15. Everyone just keep bad mouthing Fairview. Ok GP beat us--THEY BEAT EVERYONE!

CPA- Beat us, well GP beat them also--and they also beat everyone WE BEAT!

Not yelling just stressing the point. Fairview lost to two teams-GP and CPA. that makes us third in a HARD region. Fairview made a lot of mistakes, but they are working on changing their game to conform to the new teams they are playing.. But you cannot deny they have improved greatly in the game now that they playing harder teams. (so you all keep patting your backs and saying we are bad- you beat the same teams we did)

--I am not slamming anyone on the next comments its just true-- that is it is hard for a public school to compete with private schools. A fact of life and money. I think we do pretty good for having old equipment and our coaches doubling as field keepers. Our coaches and players keep our field neat and clean and paint it before every game. Fairview has been the b*stard child of Williamson County for so long. The money stays strictly in the Franklin area. Franklin Hig School gets a new face on it and ta da stuff-- they paint Yellowjackets on our bricks. Come on! AND that was volunteered by an exceptional local artist! It gave the kids a little pride in themselves that their own school county board wont do!

So before you all going slamming the team and coaches here you better open the book instead of just looking at the cover and spitting on them.

Now as far as the Lewis County game I realize their home field advantage an we haven't played them in I think 2 years. They have grown accustiomed to there same teams they play. I am not dissing Lewis County but I will have to pick Fairview for a tight win.

AND Good Luck to both teams and a safe night for all.

    Fairview 28

    Lewis C. 20

  16. Hello Mt Pleasant fans... I am the photographer who left in the 4th quarter because I was cold and forgot about the Herald Cup.. I have been taking pictures for Mt Pleasant schools for 6 years now ( every football game Home and Away )

Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Track...The sports pictures in your Annual were DONATED by me.. How many of you have traveled to every game these kids have played for six years in a row? Traveled to basketball games in Clifton,Perry County, Collinwood, Moore County, Huntland just to name a few..Man I have spent a bunch of money trying to cover the great kids in Mt Pleasant.. Until this year I did it without compensation from The Daily Herald ( I won't tell you how little they pay me for going to a game, lets call it gas money) I am sorry I have done such a bad job.. I truely thought I was doing the school and the athletes a wonderful service.. Well I had fun while it lasted...Good luck Tigers in the Playoffs.....It's has been an honor getting to know such a fine group of you men....Thanks

We would love to have a reporter like you in Fairview. How about a trade! I have seen your work and it is excellent! Our reporter is so bias he forgets it takes a TEAM not just a few select players to win a game. Thank you for giving of your time, that is more than most of the parents do who's own kids play the sports! From one volunteer to another, keep up the good work, it's worth it when you can make the difference in at least one kid's life! :thumb:

  17. I would have to say I pick Jareth Baldwin (OL/DL) of Fairview. He hits and plays hard. There is usually two players on him at all times and they avoid trying to take the ball through his side.

Ok I am going to say as for his character, there couldnt be better in my eyes. He never complained when he lost his home and his horse. He he mowed lawns his freshman year and made sure he was at practice every day and practiced hard.

His Sophmore year, he worked all through it. He would get the tar beat out of him holding the line on a friday night and would be at work early saturday morning.

And when things are tight at home-- well Jareth always helps out finacially when he can. And your right,, I couldnt ask for a better son. He practices hard, plays hard and has a heart of gold. AND reguardless of who you are I know he would give you the shirt off his back.

  18. Blaker45...If you are a player or in any way associated with the Fairview football program, I wouldn't be worrying myself with Lewis County just yet. Seems there's a beatdown train rolling into Fairview tomorrow night in Purple and White, and you've got a ticket in First Class!

It's obvious you hold some hostility towards Lewis County. David Sharp was a beast, no arguments here. However, it could also be argued that Fairview is nothing without those two backs (Cothren (sp) and that other one whose name escapes me at the moment) who played a couple of years ago.

You're a heckuva prognosticator. Please enlighten us...How many games have you seen Lewis County or Camden play this year? Don't lie. We'll know.

And while I know Don is lurking tonight, I'll ask this question....Why does the Jr. High seem to get more press week in and week out than the High School (excluding stats)? Not taking anything from the jr. high program. Every one of these boys in high school was on that team. It just seems that the #3 ranked team in the state would have more. More details, more pictures, bigger pictures, mention the defense in more than one paragraph, etc. I know that there are time and space constraints and that you have an extra day to write about the jr. high. I also realize that you have nothing to do with the picture situation. If I were visiting from Camden or Alcoa and I picked up the Herald, I would be scratching my head as to why the LCHS Panther football team gets less press than the jr. high does. This puzzles everyone I talk to.

And before you offer...NO! I don't want the job!

Well I am going to step in on this message pretaining to the news coverage in Fairview. I have heard MANY complaints from the community about the (my opionion) Moronic local sports writer. Several boys on the team have made fantastic plays, sacks, and tackles. The sports writer is prejudiced against several of the players (bad mouthing them off the field to unbeknown family members) and covers only those on the team he 'chooses'. I guess its who you know and what to kiss. Like I tell the boys, some players are going to be more in the lime light. That is the positions they play BUT it takes a WHOLE team to make them look good. But, this is something for the parents to take care of and should not concern the team. It's not their fault the moron (in my opionion) harshly judges those who do not fall into his chosen 'lens or column'.

And your right I have seen better coverage on the Fairview team in their competitors local paper, maybe the guy should learn something about loyality to his own home town team.

  19. Well this will be a hard fought slobber knocker game. No one team is faster, its pound it up the middle and whoever makes the least mistakes WILL WIN

I am a Mom of 4 boys! I am use to that kind of game! That can be any day in this house! LOL :thumb:

    Have a good one! :(
