  1. Not sure if you was commenting on me on the tackling its wasnt the best EVER but it was the best we have seen in a while i thought there were several good open field tackles and they used their shoulder pads more was it great the whole game through?..NO but for the first game of the season i thought it was pretty good...and i am confident that it will get better as the season progresses...

as for the passing we didnt do a whole lot of it and this is just my OPINION and its not based on any knowledge at all but i think our coaching staff felt that we should win this game as long as we protect the ball and play our game so it is MY OPINION that all we wanted to do was run our core plays and execute you will see more passing this coming week IN MY OPINION

I don't remember who had talked about tackling but I had noticed that Brighton had some big gains. Those gains were caused due to hard fighting backs and a weak tackle. It was still a great looking first game. Riverdale has been weak in the pass game because they don't have to use it in seasons past. The receivers looked great on the passes that were thrown and blocking down field was superb. I think they might need to hit up the passes more so that they can stay balanced.

And 2P, my girlfriend's sister is in the Warrior band so I went to see her. I'll be back at Oakland next week. I'll be snapping some pictures getting some practice in for MTSU games that are about to start up. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action.

  2. Great game last night for Riverdale. I'm still a biased Oakland fan, however the Warriors will definitely make it an interesting year. Special teams looked great. The kicker has got a leg on him for sure. Once they get the timing down I don't think there is a chance he'll get blocked. If Brighton would have gotten on their horses they had an opportunity to get a couple XP's. But I'm sure that will get addressed come Monday afternoon. Defensively I was impressed by the speed of the Warriors. They aren't overly big but I personally think that football is moving into a finesse stage of the game. Speed is a big strength for them. I would have to disagree with the tackling being the best I've seen. It was taking two and three defenders often to stop the Brighton backs. They were good backs, but there were several arm tackles that should have stopped some big gains. On offense, Riverdale again has a strong wing t back situation. With a power back and two speed backs, it'll be tough to hold the Warriors on long drives. The line was big and knew what to do, however I'm afraid that a more athletic front will really cause problems. Down side of being big, is often having some mobility issues. They really but it on the bigs of Brighton though and opened holes for those backs. QB has got some legs under him, which is always a strength for them. Passing looks the same to me. They use it only when they are in trouble which makes it hard to complete. However being the first game, it looked better than in the past. There are always a few wrinkles in the beginning but Riverdale will have a great run this season. They know how to get it done and this year will be no different. Good luck Warriors!

  3. I wish I could make the game, but the land of retail calls me. Don't you love Black Friday and Saturday /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I plan on finding a radio for work though and listening to the game on WGNS. I must commend the Patriots for the outstanding job they have done so far, but that the final two games will not be easy. The front seven will have their hands full with the Owls. Secondary has been far from tested, but they must step up this week if Ooltewah says they like run. Any Patriot players on the thread need to just listen to the coaching staff and forget anything else that comes out of here, the paper, or even your own parents. You listen to you FOOTBALL COACHES and you will win FOOTBALL GAMES. Good luck out there and stay warm this weekend

  4. idk about that but they r above nashville..

and our record may not show it but this does....only public school to win back to back state titles in 5a...smyrna actually has a good shot at a 3rd tittle

    Riverdale has twice I think.

  5. I agree, I think the differnence between this year's O and last year's O is the speedy O-line, and the stamina shown by everybody on the team. I was there for both Coach Ferg's agility practices and I watched some of Coach Mac's agilities. Coach Ferg would only halfway run the players and Coach Mac would run everyone until they puked

I participated in both programs and they are about the same. In reality Fergs teams were in better shape because we had to be. When you don't have subs, you are forced to. I see very winded linemen when they come off. The speed is noticeable because the current training is based on football actions rather focusing primarily on bench squat and clean. Everything is done not for overpowering strength but for a blend of the two.

  6. This is nothing new. Oakland has always had the talent, but hasnt had it properly harnessed as of late until Coach Mac came along. I will second that he and his staff are doing an amazing job.

I agree that Coach Mac is doing fantastic at Oakland. Things might have been different in the past years if the turn out of players would have been as good. It looks great to see that many players on the sideline. Being able to roll players in and out when they get tired is such a blessing for the team, especially on the trenches.

  7. Region Rank Team games left commentary

1 Oakland (Smyrna, at Lebanon, Siegel, Blackman) I see 7-0 or 6-1 for the team with the best looking uniforms in the state. Any chance they can add a TN state flag on the back of their helmets? Owns tiebreakers over Riv WC Lav

    2. Siegel (at Lavergne, Blackman, at Oakland, Lebanon) loss to Cent clouds the Stars, favorable schedule. Realistically 1 win from playoffs, but is that all they want out of the season? Owns tiebreakers over Smy WC Riv

3t. Riverdale (Lebanon, at WC, Smyrna, Lavergne) Roundrobin with WC and Smy will decide 3rd 4th out. Owns tiebreaker over Blk

3t. WC (Blackman, Riverdale, Lebanon, Lavergne, Smyrna) See Riverdale, have to win 3 of 4 to get to playoffs One mulligan left... 0-2 in the region.

3t. Smyrna (at Oakland, Lavergne, at Riverdale, WC) Must win at least 1 of 3 from Oak Riv WC or the defending state champs outside looking in. Maybe my mistake to give Smyrna a W in the rivalry game against Lavergne. Edited this because Smyrna is 2-1 vs 1-2 for Riv & 0-2 WC.......Owns tiebreaker over Lebanon and Blackman

    6. Lebanon (at Riverdale, WC, Blackman, Oakland, Siegel) see Blackman, but add playoff experience. Cream of the crop left for the Blue Devils. Can they get 3 more wins? Owns tiebreaker over Lav

    7. Blackman (WC, Siegel, Lebanon, Oakland) Wildcard or spoiler? Have to win 3 to get into the playoffs. Owns tiebreaker over Lav

    8. Lavergne ( (Siegel, Smyrna, WC, Riverdale) Tough row to hoe left for the Wolverines, need to sweep to get in. Good luck to Coach Hester's young team! 0-3 in the region.

Region 6 has proved itself as the toughest 5A region this season IMHO. I don't think we can claim that anymore after last weekend's fiasco.

Good recap of what needs to happen for each team. As of right now, the Oakland-Siegel game is not just a highly heated and anticipated game, but also for who wins the region. If each team keeps playing the way they are now, you won't find a seat within the stadium unless you sleep on the sidewalks of Oakland.

  8. Oakland definitely won't need life support. They've already got 4 games under their belt about to be one more tomorrow. Even if we did lose we are still only 2 games away from a playoff berth. Oakland either way will be just fine. But it should be a good game tomorrow I'm looking forward to it. My final prediction. 20 Oakland Wilson Central 10. Oaklands D shouldn't give up more then ten points in this game and their offense should be able to put up a couple touchdowns but it will be a fairly close game!

I believe that this game is going to be a higher scoring game. Oakland's defensive has played impressively so far, however Coach Elrod and the Wildcats run a fast offense. Not just speed during the play, but speed between plays. Oakland will have their endurance tested.

  9. Riverdale- they still have pride in this match

Oakland- hard to stop a rolling boulder

Blackman- just not a fan of smyrna

    Lebanon- fields an underrated team

    White Station

    Dobyns-Bennett

    Clarksville @ Beech

    Brentwood Academy

    MTCS- just being wishful

    FRA- again with wishes

  10. I was at the game and really enjoyed it myself. I was a little disappointed with Oakland's execution the first half. Being a former O-lineman, I really watched how they played. They were getting mashed the first half by a larger FC D-line, but time wore on and Oakland got into gear.

Just a side note to anybody in Oakland student section, GET LOUD! 8 guys were louder than the entire student body last night. It was good to see support by Alumni tonight.

  11. Will Hester was my kid's favorite coach when he was at Siegel. He is a good one.

I didn't get to have him as a coach personally, however his reputation and actions are only of the highest class. To an extent you don't need to run up the score. I've been in very lopsided affairs that included second string against starters and still not stopping them. If you can't stop second and third string, you might need to evaluate your game plan. I didn't notice really, but when did Oakland quit playing starter? I stopped paying attention once the second half started.

  12. here guy.

    1.cocky?·y (kk)

    adj. cocky?·i?·er, ######?·i?·est

    Overly self-assertive or self-confident.

    2.cocky

    Adjective

[cockier, cockiest] excessively proud of oneself

    Since we are doing definitions:

    Main Entry: cocky

    Part of Speech: adjective

Synonyms: (slang) pert, arrogant, brash, cocksure, conceited, crouse, egotistical, hotdogging, jaunty, pert, presumptuous, saucy

You have to look at the context of the word, not just the definition. You don't want to be any of these synonyms. It will get you beat in football.

  13. This was a really BORINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNg game. I knew Lavergne was young, but man I really felt sorry for them. They just kept making mistake after mistake to shoot themselves in the foot. They do have some young talent, but they just were making soph mistakes all night long and our Defense exploited them. They couldn't stop our running game and we ran at will over them. My game ball goes to Sam Bass tonight as scored 2 TDS...one on Defense and one on offense! Incredible night for him. I also keep liking what I am seeing out of young Dre Frazier. He will definitely be a force for the future. It was great to see the young kids get some playing time for us. They deserved it. It was also great to see so many pts on the scoreboard. I admit I was getting worried. Keep your head up, Coach Hester......good things will come yall's way....just be patient.

Guess TJ and OP didn't want to get their hair wet tonight.....and just think I was going to treat yall to wings after the game but you WEREN'T here, ya slackers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's a little rain ??

The Siegel game has taken on new meaning this year.......wow.....I am still shocked over them beating WC and Lebanon losing to Smyrna. WHAT a night!

Well I did get to the game last night, and kind of wished I would have brought a towel. It was a great first quarter and turned boring once the running clock was turned on, but a great effort by La Vergne. I checked up on injuries and Adams has a broken wrist and don't know how many games he is out. Barrett has a broken toe but should be back next week and Amey is out for a couple more weeks with a very bad strain on his leg. Schaller looked good, but he is going to learn to throw it away, run out of bounds, or slide. He can't afford to be getting hit for no reason.

  15. ENOUGH I will not allow people talking about LHS coaches they have worked extremely hard to improve our team in every area of the game sometimes it doesnt work that way we took the field Friday with two Freshman and several Sophmores playing a significant amount of time we are seriously a play away from being 2-0 and we still get no respect Friday night the Wolverines have something to prove. I must warn you the DEN will be rocking Friday night and it will be a night for all Wolverine fans to remember. " The Throw Down In L-Town "

I agree that folk need to get off the coaches or pick up a whistle.

The problem last year was turnovers. We had seven last year, but I think this team has a handle on that.

  16. Hate to point this out b/c it will kick off one of my Oakland buddies, but Lebanon did not win Friday night. They led 17-0 at the half and allowed Gallatin to score 33 2nd half points to edge them out. The final score was 33-30.

    Sorry bacillum.....

I know it man! What is this all about? I done been forgotten in two contest /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  17. Oakland has its share of fair weather fans in football. Win, and you have a flurry of new posters and folk at the game. Lose, and they return back to the closet. We have four 5 A high schools in Murfreesboro.......6 5A schools in the county. Add in Middle TN Christian and Eagleville, and you have plenty of football to choose from w/o having to drive to any away games. Factor in on Friday night that it was expected to storm....which it was POURING when I left the Boro to head to Manchester....and I think you get the picture. Many parents won't let their kids drive to away games esp in rain and most kids think they are too cool to ride a pep bus to one. Also.......most of the students think since we beat Riverdale that we would drill Coffee County and it would be a waste of gas to go. They have no respect for opponents b/c they don't suit up themselves. I suppose we will have a decent crowd when we play Siegel in a few wks b/c they are the biggest rival for us these days. Will they sit in the stands, cheer, and watch the game? No way. They will strut around the stadium and run their mouths embarrassing the school and trying to start stuff with the Siegel fans who are doing the same. They will curse if we don't win and loudly proclaim how badly we stink....real bandwagonners at their best.

But those same fans won't even be around when we really need them against a team like WC or Lebanon.

BUT......the bottom line is that Oakland only has a handful of DIE HARD fans that travel b/c they love Patriot football. Very sad, but very true. That was one of the reasons I wanted to go to this one....to see the great CC atmosphere and how it SHOULD be.

    Agreed 2P.

Schaller could barely walk and that run hurt him really bad. It is still exceptionally tender. Adams was last reported to have a fractured/broken wrist and trainers thought that Amey might have broken his leg. He was going for xrays as soon as he could.
