  1. Pretty much sums up my feelings. With the way the defense played, I thought it would have been poetic justice for them to get the winning score, they were money tonight, minus 1 play that one of our safeties had a brain cramp on...........

Good thing the "brain cramp" came during non-region play. Sam or Deion will fix whatever problem or misread that they made.

  2. No doubt the qb situation hurt, which at that point we should have stayed committed to running the football instead of doing a little bit of everything. We have got to simply the offense, that or pick up the pace, when you have that many delay of games, something is seriously flawed

If you simplify the offense anymore and you will just have X and O on a chalkboard. Most likely the delays were due to the QB situation. You don't have the stater and don't really know how the second younger guy is going to do.

  3. I had to make a MTCS game or I would have been there last night. From reading this thread and talking to a couple players, Oakland did not play to potential and CC stepped up. Another player you guys haven't talked about was Christian Adams and Schaller. I heard Schaller didn't play because of his sprain last week until Adams went down late in the fourth. Good to see a young guy really stepping up showing ownership. Like I said, I wasn't there, but that would be another reason Oakland didn't air it out as much. Adams has touch, but no strength. Somebody enlighten me to how they both played.

  4. All I can say is that I am very grateful that GONZALES graduated last year!!

    Good luck to the Raiders!

Get ready for me and wingman IN THA HOUSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

The kid was bigger than what they reported him. He was a load for sure. Last year the refs thought he and Richard Nelson were fighting after a play and they were both thrown out. They also faced a game suspension, but luckily Ferg had the video of from the lift in the endzone to clear both of them.

  5. Oakland

    Blackman

    Lebanon

    Riverdale

    Brentwood

    Wilson Central

    Siegel

    Hillwood

    Maryville

    Beech

Did I miss a deadline or something? I wasn't on the stat list. No worries though, I might have just not seen my name. I was 5-5 because I forgot the one of the games, so it ain't like I'm winning or anything.

  6. Who is in first place? I know I bombed the Siegel pick but I did pick Goodpasture over Ravenwood and got that one!

Yeah, definitely did not see that one happening. I'm glad Siegel won though. I won't say I hate both teams, but I do have a strong dislike for them both. Maybe Smyrna a little bit more.

  7. Oakland plays the kind of game that Coffee county can win. They line up and come right at you. That is what coffee county is good at defending. I think as long as coffee does not turn the ball over as much as Riverdale did than it should be a good game. If they giev oakland the ball time and time again like riverdale it could be ugly.

Oakland does run a good deal between the tackles, however, team speed is what could make this game ugly. What really hurt Riverdale offensively was wide sweeps. Patriots have a stable of backs who run sub 4.5 forties. Without having to go both ways, these backs stay well rested and able to run and block on the perimeter. McDaniel also effectively used playaction and draws to keep the defense on their toes. Riverdale's defensive line was a major strength, but when you run away from them, it knocks them out of the hunt.

  8. 1. Riverdale

    2.Trousdale Co

    3 Ensworth

and other field surfaces you think left out

    worst surfaces???

I've played at Riverdale and it is quite nice. Oakland has a good field, not the best, but just behind R'dale. The worst field without a doubt is Wilson Central. It has bald spots running down the hash marks, divets all over the field, the mid field logo is nothing but chalk and dirt.

  9. oops....guess I was right on what I saw and heard in the preseason. OHS dominated the game. Our lines outplayed Riverdale's for once and marched down the field when they had to (with the backup QB). Nice kick by Hornsby to seal it. Can't be any happier for these guys.

The lines did play well. A few obvious mistakes like Schaller's sack, but he told me it is only diagnosed a sprain right now. Other than that, the both teams lines were fighting fatigue and cramping yet Oakland seemed to finish when they needed it. Great job to all who played, coached, and supported Oakland tonight.

  10. Gordonsville has been to the TSSAA State Playoffs each of the last 15 years.

Cheatham Co. has been to the TSSAA State Playoffs each of the last 6 years.

There aren't many matchups in Week 0 that feature two programs that have been to the playoffs for that many combined years in a row /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

What is the young sophomore running back's name for Gordonsville???? I know the quarterback is Chase Malone. Henry Whigham is back from what I read and I am sure he will be a huge part of the offense at wide receiver. Brady Hearn is a terrific defensive player who was a force against Cheatham Co. last year. I believe he may have led Gordonsville in tackles last year. Is Nic Gillespie still doing the kicking for Gordonsville????

Coach Ron Marshall came from Oakland I know. Where did he coach at prior to Oakland???? I heard he was once at Lebanon with Medley. Is that correct?????

I am a former Patriot who thinks quite highly of Coach Moose so you might see popping in and out on these boards. He has coached at Lebanon (Head Coach for a year or so) Riverdale, Oakland, and there are a couple more but I can't remember. He is a well known name in 5A football and Gordonsville will have a sound defensive scheme with his arrival.

  11. one step at a time, you know this offense looks very much like what I like to call The Gary Rankin, I think long balls will come with time

When that time comes, Schaller has a cannon. He did a lot of growing up last season and learned from the baseball what needs to happen to lead a team deep in the playoffs. Different games, but the same principles. His coolness was even there last year toward the end of the season once he got a couple games under him.

  12. I completely agree, its hard to notice whether or not the line is struggling when you have guys breaking off runs in chunks. I will say that Oakland has done a good job of calling plays that dont put as much pressure on the line, such as bootlegs, qb rollouts, bubble screens, draws, etc. You plan to be there friday, Bacillum?

It is at home right? If it is then yes I will do my best. I'm expecting my doctor to give me the okay to walk, so I am planning on being there for my first walk. I didn't get to make BA, because of commitments, but this one I am planning on being there. I like the competition Oakland has with Tullahoma. They aren't super hard, but they are well coached and will give a good effort to make themselves better and in turn make Patriots better.

  13. I heard that the one lined down against McAdoo was the Notre Dame prospect. Anyway, I agree that the weak point is a punter. Any thoughts?

The weakest point is not the punter to my knowledge. It isn't the strongest point, but a more immediate problem is the Offensive line. A few injuries have put them short handed for the time being. Put right now is a crucial time for a line to learn trust and consistency. Something that we have not had in a few years. Luckily we do have some serious playmakers in the backfield that will help keep the offense running until the line starts blowing people off the ball. As I have said before, the line is lacking due to injuries and lack of experience. They are coming off a year that had all senior linemen and that has hindered them a little bit.

  14. I spoke to a BA parent on Saturday and they had 2 Offensive players who were on vacation and 4 defensive players that were out. Great job Oakland, but BA was down some players. I would love to see you all play them when the entire team is there. Great job on the win anyway. The BA parent said their entire team was shocked!

I am hearing however that the offensive line is lacking due to a couple injuries and lack of experience. To my knowledge there are no clear cut starters for any of those positions yet. A problem that will be addressed quickly and efficiently though.

  15. Do you even know anyone at R'dale? If you did then you WOULD know R'dale takes NO region 4 game lightly, especially this one!

From all your posts I have seen I take it you are from Siegel or Metro or you would know better.

Also, Riverdale has a streak to protect, so they cannot take a game lightly. Another thing to watch for is a revamped Oakland brings a new flair to the game. Even though the Patriots came up short last season, the first game is the toughest one of the season because you haven't done your best until the opening kickoff. That is when it matters.

  16. WAT ABOUT THAT KID TIM MCADOO HE LOKS PRETTY GOOD TO...... ILL TELL YOU WAT THE KID CAN PALY

He is getting there to say the least. He has definitely matured a bit, but he has a future ahead of him if he can just keep his head on straight. Barrett, McAdoo, Murray, and Amey are quite a lineup. Especially in Oakland's new defensive scheme.

  17. I thought the D looked good. Judging for the BA parents sitting on the OHS side, they were surprised too. They have 6 D1 prospects..one to Notre Dame, and 5 others. Don't know which ones they were though.

That was my information as well. Most of those were on the offensive line, which if that is also true then more points should have been on the board for them. I'll know a bit more tomorrow about the mechanics of the line, but it sounds like Barrett and the boys put it on 'em. With all hope I will make the opening game unless work gets in the way.

  18. Just got in from the scrimmage. I must say that I saw Brentwood Academy get whipped by Oakland. Total offense was probably about 250 to MAYBE 100 Oaland's Defense was outstanding. Final score was 3 tds to 0 with a 4th called back. Kicking game needs some work in my opinion, but it's still early in the season. All in all a VERY good showing for the Patriots!

Congrats to Oakland on the whipping, however it does not sound like typical BA. If someone can help a cripple out by letting me know what all went down. Keep the momentum going however you Patriots. Don't let anything slow you down. Learn your weaknesses before someone exploits them even in this big win. Only time can tell now where Oakland will stop with this year's team.

  19. Just left the scrimmage and I have to say that this is a different team. Congrats to Coach McDaniel and his staff. The charge you feel is electric! What I saw is tremendous difference from years past. OHS has always had the talent, just not the coaching to pull it together. What about #5? How many TD's did he get? Great job, Oakland. Can't wait for the Battle of the Boro....should bring back the REAL battle. I saw a lot of former players there. I felt bad for them cause they never had this chance. But once a Patriot always a Patriot. True Patriots will come back to support their team. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I was unable to attend the scrimmage however I was told that Precious had a touchdown and BJ Nelson had 4 to his credit. BJ is quite the athlete. I am also worried about the score. I love that Oakland got a confidence booster, however the talent that I have been told about BA makes me skeptical. Hopefully any luck tonight was created by the Patriots. Time to stop waiting for the dice to favor us and make the bounce go our way. I would like to hear how my boy Barrett played? Supposedly there were several possible D1 athletes on the offensive line for BA. Looking at the score it looks like he played well, but I would like to hear some eye witness testimony. All I have is hearsay and limited details.

  20. In my own experience as a player in all the defenses, a 5-2 is the hardest but easiest to adjust with. With three interior lineman it frees linebackers to assist in outside plays or pass coverage. Also the ends don't have to be flat footed, but rather have a strong side and a weak side. Both guys act like linebackers, but are trained to play like lineman. The weak side is developed into a strong safety for coverage as well. It is definitely a way to make a strong defense with questionable secondary support. It is hard to run, but once put in is hard to stop.
