How many SC fans will be in Westmoreland Friday night?
I suspect about everyone of us. SC travels well and a game like this will brings out even the passive fan as well as the die-hards. Not sure who else plays a big game like this in the area but I am certain SC/WHS will rank high for ones to watch. I have not been there since 2000, hope the consession stand is still as good.

Talking to some of my SC friends (yes people from both sides can get along) in area behind old band seating. I must say that I think the Mafia does seem to be correct. SC fans mostly sit on hands until something big allready happened. Team needs fan support 48 minutes. Didn't know what you guys were saying when you called fans out. Now I do.
MC fans also not as rowdy as usual.
Fireworks and sign in North endzone with scores are a nice touch. Are they all supported financially by booster money? Must get into some bucks.
Our QB Club works nearly year round to raise money for the Owls. They paid for the new consession stand and local merchants went in and bought the scrolling sign. The same people update it by calling around the mid state to friends at other ballgames. The horn in the south end was also paid for by local people. Yes it takes alot of money and we are fortunate to have a community which helps support the Owls.

Come on "I Love HS FB" quit rubbin it in!!! How many people ended up at the game? I want a head count!!
2600 paid plus bands, cheerleaders, teachers and others with season passes. Total appox. 3000.

Smith Countys visitor locker room was awesome I loved it because it was so big and is probably the only locker room (including ours) that will be able to accomadate all 98 of us at once pretty comfortably...other then the hike back up to it after warmups and at the half it was awesome, and the field was great too!!
Thank you. We work hard all year round to keep our little place in good shape. Having a hard working QB club also is a great advantage.

Ahhhhhhhhh Grasshopper....we agree!!!
Our PA guy wouldn't do that, would he?
-
Good luck to one of my favorite people. Cannon Cty. has landed a winner in every sense of the word. I hope the community supports Michael as I know they will.
-
Queenie....since it was the ONLY penalty of the game, someone had to get it....

I have watched Audrey play for 4 years now and can safely say she has earned everything by hard word and dedication. She has great parents and a little sister who works just as hard. Her 1000 points is a great milestone but she will remembered at SCHS for quite a bit more. Congratulations to a great player.

NO. The player has to make the choice on their own based on their ability. I think that each sport in HS has elevated to the level where 3 sport stars are going to be rare. Football has become a 11 month a year deal, basketball has expanded to AAU along with the many summer camps which are becoming more neccessary. Baseball is nearly year around considering spring, summer and fall schedules not to mention the travel teams. I think a kid needs to be a kid but when? I went to school with a great 3 sport star. He started both ways in football, high post in BB and center field on a Dist. Champ team. Haven't seen many since.

Macon County's defense is real. As good as I have seen in a few years. Their kicking game speaks for itself after K. Smith beat Grundy and turned around and beat Smith County the next week. He is good from the forty and in. They come from a strong region where 6 of 10 team could have competed in the play-offs. Not many "nights off". The head coach is a long time football man and a good man to boot.

What exactly is the criteria for winning Mr. Football? Are grades and school involvement considered? Or is it purely what is done on the field?

Right or wrong? Thursday our coaches will paint the field (2 hours). Friday our students will clean the stadium (2/3 hours), this is after one of our coaches has already spent 2 hours mowing and sweeping the grass (Sunday after Church). The concession crew and the QB club people arrive at the stadium around 4:30 PM to start cooking/setting up booths to sell merchandise. Our Game Management crew comes in at 5 PM to set up the field and get the press box in order. Gate opens at 5 PM for "Big" games so there are usually two teachers along with the band boosters sells tickets and programs. And speaking of Bands, ours usually start thier set up at 5:30 PM. All this is for a 7 o'clock kick off. I figure at least 35 to 40 people are working not including the football managers who tote and pack an army of supplies from the fieldhouse to the sidelines. I haven't mentioned Civil Defense, County Deputies or the local radio station or the local Ambulance service. Who desires the biggest split of the money?
-
Will the game be on radio? if so what station?
Usually SCHS football is on 104.1 FM or 1350 AM. Both are local. The AM station signal is alittle weak sometimes.
Better off coming to the game and seeing it for yourself. Queen's burgers are worth the drive.

I know it will be one of the best games of the year. I just hope a crowd comes to support both teams. There were alot of empty seats at Owl Stadium Friday night.

I believe what Warrwn Co. needs is someone who is from there.Who cares for the school and town. Someone who has pride in the school. And most of all an AD. that has a backbone to stand up to the stupid people who only want their kids to play or show their butts!
I agree with you 100%. The next Coach should have a love for the school and the community which can not come from an outsider. He must be willing to go down to the feeder schools and work with the coaches to insure that both systems are compatable. Trousdale County is a prime example of this. Matter of fact Coach Satterfield is usually on the side lines during their Junior High games. I know Warren County is a much larger place but you see my example.
Attitude is everything in football and that starts with the head coach. There are probably some great people looking at the job and I wish them luck. Rememeber that "Salvation comes from within".

SCHS Owls - Michael Wilmore 25 TDs and over 1300 yards rushing

T.E.A.M....does anyone see an I in there???...I sure don't...and the last couple of weeks...all I've been hearing is I I I...SC has a TEAM...not a bunch of individuals out there doing their own thing...the quicker we come to realize that...the better off we'll all be...
People in the stands yelling at the coaches to pass...or to run... is not cool...kinda makes those doing all the yelling looking a little silly...If they know so much about football...maybe they should be out there doing the coaching...
SCHS has great coaches...and an easy way...to get rid of great coaches is to keep those mouths running...
GO OWLS...ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THE OWLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
AMEN, Sister!

PPRIDE
You go to work and get to play on coacht? Man, you got it made! You must be the boss!
PPRIDE
Peetown must contain the night chickens tailback! Pluck the tailback and your in the playoffs. The night chickens are going to line up and try to run it down your throat. They can pass, but their going to run right at you. The linebackers are pretty good, Hix and Dyer are a good one two punch.
TRICK OR TREAT!!!!
Your right the night chickens have a great passing team but we throw less and less every week. We started out throwing the ball 20-25 times a game and now we ran the ball 48 times and passed 8 in our last outing. Our Qb and recievers are getting rusty and we're gonna need them. Now we are a running team instead of a balanced attack and i cant figure out why we quit using our weapons.can anyone enlighten me on this matter.
GO BIG OWLS
MF
A running team controls the clock and the game. You wear down the other team with the constant pounding of a huge and talented offensive line which takes it toll on the players which go both ways on the other team.
I really don't think it should be an issue every week where the points come from or who gets the touches. If we were 1-8 how much concern would there be? Our QB has over 1000 yards passing which hasn't happened in a long time. Our backs last year combined for around 2400 yards or more. Seems we are passing more now than ever.
Have alittle faith in the staff which is under paid and over worked as it is. Listen to some of the abuse these men take during and after a game even when we win. Keep supporting your brother. He is a great kid and a big part of the TEAM.

Does anybody know where the Smith Co. vs. Portland game is at? And it is next Thursday, right?
As of today, it will not be moved.
-
Sometimes you play/coach for the simple love of the game. Maybe WC can build on this experience of never quitting and start upward again. Good luck to my friend.
-
PA announcers that talk during the play either have no clue or are just in it to hear themselves talk. You are not supposed to talk during the play from the PA.
As for bands playing, the visiting coach must protest. Then the band will be made to stop. But that usually causes the crowd to get loud or louder.
Del.
Speaking from nearly 25 years of experience, I agree with you Del. The best PA's are like good Ref's, hardly noticed and hard working. That my place the school and public serves announcements usually start around 6:15 PM and go steady until game time. After that I like to let the game speak for itself. Play-by-Play is unnecessary due to the fact that most that really want to hear it are listening to local radio anyway. You say the names correctly, try and get the tackles and yardage right and remember to turn the mike off when you scream at the Refs.
As for the band playing during a live ball, I think the TSSAA needs to rethink their position on this one. Although it does drown out some of the fans who heckle our coaches from time to time.
-
Lets pay another official to be the statman like the NCAA does!!!
The TSSAA can buy new laptops for all statmen and they can compile and print the results for Newspapers and the team. Lets also hire a spotter ref to help spot tackles so we can have an accurate count on Tackles.
The job would be perfect for you if your current position doesn't pan out. Computers? Football? Sounds like a fit. See ya soon.

Here's two names for ya...Morgan Hix ( Smith Co. ) & Roy James ( Trousdale Co. )
Not sure how many James had but Hix had 23 tackles Friday night vs. Trousdale Cty. Not bad, huh?

Don't underestimate Upperman. #24 and #60 are quality players. Good luck to Coach Dyer.
Smith County @ Gordonsville

In regard to the Jr. High (Middle School) please note the schedule they play. 8 games which include Trousdale, W.J. Baird, Livingston and Macon. All with only 27 kids. Pretty tough as I see it. The wins may not be there but as they move up those kids play quicker at the next level because of a stronger schedule and an effort to mimick thier High School program as best they can. As for the uniforms, I saw one kid with David McDonald's thigh pads the other night. Go figure. Hope the league you are involved in does well.
