  1. Wolfpack Wrestling Club is at Halls High School and Pigeon Forge High School. Cody Humphrey a former state champion and DII All-American at Carson-Newman coaches the club team at Halls. They practice twice a week and and the two schools (PF &HHS) combine and go to 4 or 5 tournaments.
  2. I'm not sure some team from Georgia.
  3. Well, here are the results that I observed; it was hard to keep up with since they were running two finals matches at one time. This brings me to another point. I believe that since tournaments have been limited this year the finals matches should be made into more of a big deal. I know Gibbs does not compare to Bradley, but they should still take the time recognize the champions. That might just be me though. *103 Larue HALLS beat Maxwell *112 Larue of HALLS beat McDonald KARNS 119 Caddell WHITLEY beat Chips KARNS *125 Evans WHITLEY beat Harless KARNS 130 ??? 135 Rampley ARM beat Horn STONE 140 Riddle KINGSTON beat Davidson POWELL *145 Erman PIGEON FORGE beat Collins UNION COUNTY *152 Gunter HALLS beat Greene GIBBS *160 Shields PIGEON FORGE beat Scroggins KINGSTON 171 Fisher PIGEON FORGE beat King TN HIGH 189 ??? *215 Stuff GIBBS beat Watson MCMINN *285 Leonard HALLS beat Dickerson TN HIGH *More than likely there are errors since it was hard to keep up with. 4. There were some tough kids from out of state at the pigeon forge duals and was wondering how I could check on how they stand in their own state.
  5. I believe that the Knox West scores is suppose to be Knox Halls. I believe Knox West would have been another shut-out. Also, yes right now GA wrestling is better than East TN wrestling with the exception of Chattanooga. LaFayette is the top team in GA 2A so I believe that they are that good.
  6. It is at pigeon forge high school and middle school. It started yesterday and will resume action tomorrow at 10am. It is scheduled to end around 6:30.
  7. What teams will be at the Pigeon Forge Duals?
  8. Who are the teams that are going to be at this years Bradley tournament? This is one of my favorite tournaments and it is a good measuring stick for who is going to be the wrestlers to watch out for this year. Usually gives previews into Region and State Finals matches.
  9. I agree, but Halls hasnt showed thier ability to sustain long drives this year. They have relied mostly on big plays and I am not sure if we have the speed to break one against West. The best chance we have is a mix of Kitts to the outside, pound the middle w/ Gunter, and to get the ball to Dayton on short routes and letting him be a ball player. If we mix it up we might be able to neutralize their speed. However, what will happen we will run kitts right at the heart of their defense two times and then try to pass it to Dayton on a slant. Our defense showed against SC that they can defend the pass, but I think West's offense is much stronger. I predict closer than last year, but I havent seen enough from Halls to predict them to win.
  10. Dayton and Kitts pad thier stats this week. Dayton will be up for player of the week. This is the perfect game to gain confidence before we go into the tough part of our schedule. We shouldnt be down after last week anyways, we were actually closer than I had thought we would be against Central. Next week everyone will be on here talking about how we are going to beat west because we looked so good. Just like how they got excited after we beat SC
  11. I believe that these rankings are good for High school football. These rankings are based on what the teams have done in the past and how many top prospects they have on thier team. These rankings give our athletes a chance to get looked at. I believe that Maryville deserves a top 5 ranking because they have dominated Tennessee and have some DI prospects (Burnette and the TE whose name escapes me right now). Are these polls 100% accurate, no, but no poll is going to be accurate. But it is a good measuring stick for recruiters and others to want to watch top notch football. In addition, Alcoa is not a top 10 team. But should be a top 25, I dont know if they have any DI prospects.

The cooler temperatures should be to Halls advantage, less likely a repeat of last year. Good luck to both teams.
  13. As many times I have played, watched film, and watched them after I graduated. I have never seen a Brewer coached team rely heavily on the run. In addition, I have never seen a Halls team rely on their passing game with the exception of the 2001 Halls /Farragut game. Passing in the Halls offense is basically a trick play because your trying to catch the other team w/ 8 or 9 people in the box. SC is a little bit more creative than that.
  14. I think hands down Halls has the advantage if it rains. SC traditionally likes to pass and try some tricky stuff. Forcing SC to be patient would force them out of thier comfort zone. A low scoring, slow paced game benefits Halls. Lets be real we are not going to be able to win a shoot out. If it rains watch for us to get behind our big lineman and grind it out. Especially with our special teams being in question the rain will make the running surface slower taking away some of the risk of big returns.
  15. Here is an article that was posted in a different topic, but I thought it would be good for Halls parents and supporters to see because Halls has an excellent coach and a developing program and I believe not enough football players are taking advantage of the benefits that wrestlers get. I know that I am biased and this will probably be my only plug for the wrestling program, but I thought this would be a good way for people to see how they can improve during the off-season. THIS IS A GREAT ARTICLE FROM OHIO STATE ON HOW TO BECOME A BETTER FOOTBALL PLAYER. Ohio State football: Work on mat can be edge on line Buckeyes past, present excelled as wrestlers, too Wednesday, August 15, 2007 3:41 AM By Ken Gordon Each year, Ohio State's co-defensive coordinator evaluates dozens, maybe hundreds of high school football players while recruiting. They're all big, all fast, all strong. But tell Fickell a kid is a standout wrestler, and he'll get a gleam in his eye. Now he's interested. "We talk about competitiveness, and I don't think there's a better sport to look at someone's competitiveness than wrestling," Fickell said. "You can tell (with wrestlers), it's something that's one-on-one competitive, and that's what we're trying to look for. "You can't define it. You don't know what someone has got inside their chest and their heart, but if you know they've been one on one and they've got that competitive nature … " Fickell knows. He was a three-time state champion wrestler at DeSales, and as a defensive lineman at Ohio State he set a school record for consecutive starts (50). Since then, several Buckeyes have gone from being high school wrestling stars to successful football careers, including offensive lineman Alex Stepanovich and defensive tackle Tim Anderson, each now in the NFL. This season, defensive tackle Dexter Larimore appears ready to uphold that tradition. He was the nation's top-ranked heavyweight wrestler two years ago at Merrillville (Ind.) High School. Just a redshirt freshman, Larimore had a stellar spring and will see extensive playing time this fall. Technique has a lot to do with what makes wrestlers successful linemen. They are accustomed to being tied up, pretzel-like, with an opponent. "I know a little bit more about leverage than some defensive linemen do," Larimore said, "so it helps that I can just keep a little bit lower center of gravity. I just try and work guys into kind of backwards positions for them, but it's kind of natural for me." Offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Jim Bollman said he notices wrestlers tend to be adept at getting their hands in proper position, which is a key to blocking or defeating a block. "The quickness and strength of their hands inside is becoming a much bigger part of the football game nowadays," Bollman said. "And I think that (wrestlers) have a little bit of a head start." But as Fickell said, it's the intangible desire that translates well to football. Wrestlers famously have a warrior mentality. Injuries and fatigue are no excuse. "When you're a wrestler, you have to put a lot on yourself if you want to be good," Stepanovich said. "It teaches you that every day in wrestling you're not going to feel good. You're going to have bumps and bruises. You've got to be able to grind it out. I think that helps in football." Larimore said he thinks wrestling makes him better equipped to handle adversity, such as the heat and humidity the Buckeyes practiced in last week. "Wrestling is so hard and just so physically taxing on your body, that I get out there (for football practice) and a lot of guys will mentally break: 'It's hot,' and I just keep working and trying to get better," he said. "I just can basically push myself to a point where I physically can't go anymore. I think wrestling instills that mentality." Another wrestler is in the Ohio State pipeline. Defensive tackle Garrett Goebel of Lombard, Ill., recently orally committed to the 2008 recruiting class. He won his state's heavyweight title in the spring. "My nasty attitude comes from wrestling," Goebel told the Chicago Sun Times. "You can't be a nice guy and be an accomplished wrestler. You have to want to stick a guy's nose into the mat. "In football, I want to hurt the other guy. I want to knock him down all the time." He sounds like Fickell's type. Dispatch reporter Bill Rabinowitz contributed to this story. kgordon@dispatch.com
  16. I would add Caleb Leonard of Halls (275) he has qualified both his freshman and sophomore years and placed I believe 6th in state as a sophomore. In football he is a dominate lineman and is one of the best lineman in knoxville.
  17. I havent been able to see Halls special teams go live, but that could be a big question mark since this is the first year in a while Halls would have to worry about kick returns. Poor tackling has plagued us throughout the preseason and could show during this game. I hope that this will not kill us during the SC game. However, unless I am mistaken SC allowed some returns against them during the WB game. Maybe Dayton can get loose some and give Halls' offense good field position.
  18. I think it will be close this year. The only reason why it got out of hand was because the young Halls team that many were playing both ways wilted in the heat. Alot of cramps and fatigue set in after the first quarter and SC took advantage of the inexperience of that team. I predict Halls winning 13-10. SC offense struggles again and Halls puts it together finally for a complete game.
  19. I follow Halls and we scrimmage both DB and WB. WB completely dominated us, while we tied w/ DB however, both defenses are tough and should keep it close, but based on what I have seen from the two team I am going to go with WB by 10
  20. Well after week 0 Halls looks to be in good shape and didnt even play a game. Central lost and seemed to lack the explosive offense (after the first quarter) West allowed over 200 rushing yards, and seemed to be lost w/o ryan. I think Caleb could get in Ryans head early. SC couldnt score on a team that we a least scored on w/o our starting QB Lenoir City lost big time to a team we beat last year. The only negative from this week was that Bearden dominated Carter, which we only beat by a TD in our scrimmage with them. Not predicting any upsets yet, but our chances are becoming better. Hopefully SC will still be down on themselves coming into the game next week and we can make a statement.
  21. It is spelled Gunter. 42 is Ryan Pixley, He is a great runner, but has scored all his TD's during the JV part of the scrimmages. He should have a great year during the JV games and should be ready to play varsity by next year. He is a great athlete and only has to learn the offense a little better I too think 7-3 is a stretch. 5-5 would be more like it, and would be good enough for the playoffs. 6-4 if we put it together for SC. If we come out and play a whole game like we did the second halves against Carter and AC we should beat SC, but if start out like we have been starting it will be over by half time and we wont have a chance to over come our mistakes. My prediction for SC game 13-10 Halls (if we come to play right out the gate) if we play like we did the first half @ AC it will be 49-20 SC
  22. My pick right now is Fulton, I wanted to say Catholic, but after watching the Halls/ Catholic scrimmage, I dont think Catholic is quite there yet.
  23. Way to go sherlock, I guess I should change my name now, never guessed some one would have ever guessed that I used the first three letters of my last name I would have go unknown, but really if you wanted to know I would just have told you. I would adventure even to say that your the one that tried to break in to my account, you know it sends me an email to make sure I wanted to make the changes you tried to make. I am sorry that you are a Coach J lover. It must of really of hurt your feelings. But why am I disgruntled. I am pretty sure I made that post before any scrimmages in the summer and was basing it off of the butt kickings we took in the spring. Why would I have been upset w/ my brothers playing time when I posted that while he was still in the junior olympics. Why would I have left of hate from when I played when I started my Junior and senior year and thought Julian was the best defensive and linebacker coach in the area. Hmm. maybe I am just over seeing this offesense that has never worked. Or, the fact that some of the players look like they have never seen the weight room or the fact that we faded out in the SC game last year because they had not been conditioned. When I mentioned Ethan I am pretty sure it was with two other perfectly capable players Jake Carr and R. Kelly I guess that makes me thier cousins or something because they must not have talent either. Everybody wanted a change at coach because of shepard offense and then we get a change and the offense stayed Thats my main complaint. As for ethan missing football for wrestling, it was the junior olympics a chance to wrestle against the top wrestlers in the country and to showcase your talent in front of many college coaches. Ethan will not go anywhere for football, but already has coaches talking to him for wrestling, he was all KIL last year and looks to be a region champion and do some damage at state. But his dedication towards wrestling does not take from football. He only missed the morning practices and was there for all but maybe two afternoon practices. For the comment that he looked lost on offense and defense was completely stupid because one he didnt even play defense so it would be hard to look lost if your never on the field and two he is a senior and has the the offesense down pat. As for the excitement that Coach J brings with 120 players I look at this way. If you have 120 players then your two-days and workouts are not tough enough because if 120 players are willing to go through the torture that I went through I would be surprised. And here is a sign that you might take this to seriously: if you spend time to do research on someone that is just coming on here to pass time and wondering what all the hype is about a team that got blown out against WB and only scored one TD against campell county. On the other hand the comment about linebackers I made. They did look good and maybe getting hurt early was a reason why they looked slow, what I was saying it isnt the type of intensity and speed I am used to see Julian coached linebackers at so to clear up, they did well, but not at the level I have gotten used to.
  24. This was one of my complaints there are kids on the team that already know how to hit the hole hard and we dont utlize them, that was one of my complaints about coach J. We have talent at the back position, but it appears that he keeps on trying to develop other players. I heard he is even trying to move Jake Carr to TE he is one of the kids that will get you 3-4 yards after being hit. I would like to see R. Kelly get more carries and Gunter to get carries. Those three are halls type running backs. But I will have to say the Kitts kid is twice the running back he was last year. Last year if you touched him he went down this year he is really fighting and has impressed me. However, 14-0 scrimmage is kind of disappointing on the defensive side because I know coach J would like to know if the teams starts on the 10 that they should never score. But cathlic scored twice. To many missed tackles and the defensive backs are having to make to many tackles. LB look to slow and are not getting off of blocks. But this is where Coach J speicalizes at and should correct this by the start of the season.
  25. Really are we in a debate about my integrity I was pointing out the fact that you cant detect sarcasim. Back on planet earth Halls tied DB 7-7 on honestly a scrimmage I thought was going to be another william blount beat down. Offense did look better eventhough the only time we scored was when DB gave us the ball inside the 20, but still looked better. Defense really impressed me because DB usually has good speed and we seemed to have kept that in check, tackling still stunk, but we were able to get help when we needed it. Honestly I was shocked.
