Agreed.  Abbott is the best player in District 6A this year.  So as i see it the district seedings are set for the most part.

JC vs Clarkrange in the 4/5 match up.... I'll take Jackson County at home by 12

Clay vs RBS in the 3/6 match up... I'll take Clay at home by the same margin 12

Pickett Co. vs TC in the 2/7 match up... PC at home by 20

Monterey vs Gordonsville in the 1/8... Monterey at home by 14

    On to the semi's

JC vs Monterey in the 1/4 match up... I'll take Monterey by 5 in a close one

Clay vs Pickett Co.  in the 2/3 match up.. This one should be a dandy.  I'll take Clay Co. by 1 at the buzzer

If I am not wrong, if Pickett and Clay both win tonight, they would have a coin flip for the 2/3. However, besides that I think you are correct.

I totally disagree.  I do think she is a good high school player.  I just don't think she is one of best 3 in Tennessee.  I really don't think she is the best player on her team or the district.  She struggles against girls that are close to her in size and only an average shooter.  I don't mean this in a bad way toward her. I wish her only the best and am a fan of their team.

To provide background knowledge on this statement, my understanding is that she has 2 games in the last week or two that she had 1 point and 0 points. That being said, she is really good player. However, IMO she is not top 3 in the district, let alone in the state.

  3. Courtney Pritchett of Pickett County and Kinsley Logan of Moore County should both be strong considerations for finalists. Both can PLAY!! And both are the glue that are holding their AP Top 10 teams together.

Courtney has 3 state tournament appearances and multiple MVP awards in her career and looks poised for another state run. Her resume definitely says Miss Basketball finalist, probably as much as anyone in the state this year in Single A.

  4. IMO Courtney Pritchett is hands down the MVP of this district. Take any one player off of Clarkrange and it doesn't effect them anywhere near what it would if Courtney wasn't there for Pickett. 3 players should be seriously considered and anyone other than these 3 would be a real surprise in my mind. 1. Courtney. 2. Kyleigh Hardy from Jackson County. 3. Taylor Strong from Clay County.

Now, obviously that means the best team in the district for the regular season doesn't have the MVP, but in my mind, I don't think they do. Take any of those three players off their teams and their team drastically underperforms their current level of play. Take any one off of Clarkrange and they still probably have the same record. At worst two losses to Pickett. Basically the same record.

  5. Brooks from Perry County is really a solid player. Seen her a few times over the years and she is very good.

Courtney Pritchett from Pickett County should get serious consideration for Class A Miss Basketball. She isn't going to average 25 points per game because they beat most people to death and when her team gets the lead she does an incredible job of being selfless and getting the rest of her team involved. However, one thing I would say about her is she would make any team in the state of Tennessee better. She fills up every statistical category on a stat sheet, almost averages a double-double and has led her team to the state tournament 3 times as a Freshman-Junior, with this year TO BE DETERMINED. Anyone who is voting on Class A Miss Basketball needs to personally go watch this young lady play. She is one of the best all around players to come through the Upper Cumberland in a long, long time.

  6. A lot riding on the PC Monterey game...a win keeps PC alive for first in the district. Also, a PC win would guarantee at least second I believe. A Monterey win locks up 1st place in the district standings for them. Gonna be a great game.

  7. If Pickett can win out and Monterey beat Clay, the district would finish where most people predicted it finishing...PC/Monterey 1-2, Clay 3. I think that is a very realistic scenario at this point.

District standings as of right now if my #s are correct:

    Monterey 8-1

    Clay County 6-2

    Pickett County 5-3

    RBS 3-5

    Jackson County 3-5

    Clarkrange 3-5

    Trousdale County 2-6

    Gordonsville 2-5

Could this district end up being a 3 way coin flip for first?? With PC and Clay both topping Monterey down the stretch and PC beating Clay at Pickett...and all 3 holding serve against everyone else???

Gonna be an interesting district tournament this year...

    Updated:

    Monterey 9-1, Clay County 6-3, Pickett County 6-3, RBS 3-5, Jackson Co. 4-5, Clarkrange 3-6, Trousdale 3-6, Gordonsville 2-6

  9. Great game to watch last night. Both teams played decent and it was a slugfest like many people thought it would be. Came down to free throws at the end and CR hit theirs, PC didn't. Bottom line was PC made the plays down the stretch to put themselves back in the game, and CR slammed the door by making free throws and a couple plays really late to slam the door. Great game to watch. Can't wait until the next one...

  10. Big games Friday night...

Clay at Pickett is HUGE! Clay wins and it would give them the tie breaker over PC should they need it and effectively tie them for 2nd. PC wins and it would solidify them as 2nd over Clay for now, and guarantee them at least a coin flip if them and Clay end up tied. A PC win also sets up a shot for PC to tie for first in the district if they win out and Monterey loses to PC and slips up against someone else....

Trousdale at Monterey could be the slip up Monterey needs for PC to have a shot. TC had them beat the first game they played and coughed in up in the last twenty seconds. This one could be a good game.

Gordonsville at Jackson should be a win for Jackson IMO.

RBS at Clarkrange could go either way. They are basically polar opposites. CR is small and mostly 3 point oriented and RBS relies heavily on a big, strong post player.

After Friday night, the district race will clear up in a lot of ways.

  11. District standings as of right now if my #s are correct:

    Monterey 8-1

    Clay County 6-2

    Pickett County 5-3

    RBS 3-5

    Jackson County 3-5

    Clarkrange 3-5

    Trousdale County 2-6

    Gordonsville 2-5

Could this district end up being a 3 way coin flip for first?? With PC and Clay both topping Monterey down the stretch and PC beating Clay at Pickett...and all 3 holding serve against everyone else???

Gonna be an interesting district tournament this year...

  12. Pickett County (AP #4) travels to Clarkrange (AP #1) tonight in what has to be one of the premier games in the state regardless of classification tonight! A Clarkrange win would all but guarantee the Buffs the #1 seed going into the district tournament. A PC win would in all likelihood create a coin flip later on this year for the regular season district title! Any opinions on how this one will go tonight?

PC has a huge advantage with Courtney Pritchett and Abbi Bilbrey inside IMO, and good guard play as well. Clarkrange has an advantage with great guard play that can offset PC's pace of play better than in years past. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out for sure! Good luck to both teams and hopefully we get a good basketball game and everyone gets out injury free heading toward post season!!

  13. I wouldn't say that the gap will be huge yet...once them and Macon play, it will be much more clear I think. The U is a lot more likely to destroy a team than Macon is, but head to head that might be a better battle than many think.

York/Cannon tonight may answer the question as to whether YAI can be 3rd in this district in the regular season or if it truly is a toss up between them, Cannon, Smith, LA, Dekalb, and Watertown....they have all played someone closer than expected and/or lost an unexpected game already in this early season.

And as far as the proof in the pudding, I believe that's the 13th straight win for cchs over stone.

Congrats...what size trophy did they get?

Comparing the age of the rosters....yeah Stone will be one of the most talented teams in the UC. Two years from now, maybe you can compare them again and I hope CCHS is still in the equation...but I fear they won't be.

If anyone has a D1 guard it's Cumberland. Dishman ended the night with 37 points, and in my opinion is one of the best 2019s out there. Eldridge was only able to put the ball in the basket four times. With my years of basketball knowledge as a coach and spectator an 8 point performance isn't D1 material, especially if they have more turnovers than points.  As for the post players, Stone has height and a lot of potential inside but the question is will they be able to develop it? Cumberland has taken players off the bench and made them threats in the game.. Maybe Stone should take notes..

I agree that I also think Dishman is a D1 guard. No disagreement with that comment AT ALL.....However, the comment that Stone has no D1 level guards is a little nutty considering that they have multiple guards with offers. And...arguably they have the most talent laden roster in the Upper Cumberland RIGHT NOW...even though the majority of it is young. Those are the facts.

May be true about Cumberland developing talent, but the proof is in the pudding...Cumberland has went to a couple sub states and 0 state tournaments in the last few years to my knowledge. Should go to the state tournament this year, whether they will or not remains to be seen as they will have to go through Upperman or Macon to attain that and that is not a small feat. However, Stone has a couple more years to "develop" before you are going to be able to accurately compare apples to apples between them and Cumberland County (as Buck hasn't had time yet and they are incredibly YOUNG). My bet is on Stone to out perform CCHS down the stretch when these kids are of age.....guess we will see who ends up being correct.

  16. Swing and a miss by me. Congrats to CC on a good quality win and a heck of a start to the year. They will be a contender in Double A...whoever finishes 2nd in 8AA is gonna have a tough time competing with them IMO. Upperman and Macon better fire all their shots at each other to win the District title.

SM does have at least one college level guard in Alex Eldridge. Already has an offer from TTU. Also have a couple D1 post players but they are young and sometimes these things happen to young teams. I would a LOT rather play Stone now than in February when it matters. That being said, in their region....too many teams that create a tall order to achieve the ultimate goal. Someone has to go through Bradley and the sub state round is almost an impossible feat imo.

  17. LA is the 1 as of right now...Macon/York was a solid matchup and may end up being the 2/3 all year from what I saw. Both are solid teams that had multiple chances to put the game away on Friday before York finally did it in 3OT.

Upperman by 25, Dekalb by 15, LA by 5 since it is AT LA (these two teams are about even...could easily go either way), Macon by 12 at York. I think that could be a good game, but depends on how York manages game situations and if they can control the runs of Macon. AND FOUL TROUBLE!!

Pretty accurate. LA won by 4. Upperman won by 19. Dekalb won close and was behind 15 early with the come from behind win. Macon won by 25....those runs and game situations were the key. Down 7 with around 3 to play in the first half, macon scored 10-12 in a row to end the half. Ended up creating the separation for the game with that run.

  20. Cookeville is a LOT better than Warren County. Stone will be #1. Warren will be #5. 2-3-4 could go either way. I think White gets second, Rhea 3rd, Cookeville 4th...but I won't be surprised to see CHS beat either of those two by the end of the year.
