  1. well i do hope we hear some great things from him next year, but as for this season i think it that its down to two kickers in the state and that's mike hammons of polk county and kase whitehead of Blount. Mike Hammons was the kicker on the dream team and he's really actually as good if not a better punter than Whitehead. His leg single handedly may have saved his team quite a few games this year. he's deffinately the most versatile kicker in the state in my opinion.
  2. Who is miles magallanes? never heard of him
  3. well i know that Mike Hammons-Polk Co. made the coaches all-state 3A team. anybody hear of anybody else yet? or where i can find them?
  4. That's Right! Go East! I Said That The East Would Dominate. Didn't ever really seem close. Wilks had a long catch in the first half and a few in the 2nd but that's all i really remember. Cobb from Alcoa looked amazing out there at QB. Great arm, accurate, and great speed. Heard he's going to Kentucky, hate for all that talent to go outta state. Sterling earned player of the game, and that Marshall kid had one heck of a run in the first half for a long TD. Other than a few timing problems for kicker mike hammons, he showed off his leg, and has one heck of a hang time that caused a fumble in the second half. The east came out hitting too, even Cobb laid out a huge block for Wilks! Overall a great game by the east!
  5. well from what i understand, a lot of players may have turned down the invitation to play in this game because of basketball or not wanting to risk injury after signing with schools and what not. so that could be the case for some of the best players not being a part of this game.
  6. From what i understand this is the first annual east vs. west tennessee high school all-star game, which is replacing the tn vs. ky game. so it hasn't always been played in east tennessee. but your right, middle tennessee would be more appropriate if they game doesn't change venues every year.
  7. good point, other than dorsey isn't in the running for the heisman anymore. but charles woodson did win the award as a DB over peyton manning. from what i hear about these kids is that they are very talented and regardless of who won mr. football they will both go onto college and get another chance to stand out. if they didn't win they can use that as motivation. more often than not the guys who don't win the awards go on to have great careers. its all over sports. from what it sounds like, BB was the key link to his team. maybe he deserved it more. but i have heard nothing but praises for chris jordan and i wish him the best at the next level. but you can't argue who won or lost cuz its over and done with. no changing it.
  8. well im thinking that maybe its kinda like home field advantage. this year its in east tennessee and next year somewhere out west. not entirely sure, i like it. im 20 minutes from the campus haha. which is convenient since i have family on the east squad. but good luck to all the players. it will be a fun game. i think the east has the edge in this one.
  9. Yeah, Mike Hammons did win Mr. Football's Kicker of the Year! beat out a marshall signee kase whitehead from blount co. who was the favorite, and this other kid from jackson, tn. i don't know all of his stats other than i know he broke some records at a vanderbilt kicker camp, had a field goal long of 43 yards, and i think his punt average was from 45-47 yards. ive seen the kid kick and given some room can easily average 50 yards, and with his hangtime gives special teams great opportunities in coverage. from what i heard his accuracy is even better that he was able to put his punts anywhere he wanted. good luck to him and hope he has a great college career wherever he goes!
  10. like i said on the other thread....im from the east. i watch the local games. they don't televise a lot of west scores over here. haha so i know that our team is loaded. i didn't say west was horrible. i mean, rod wilks (Smyrna), randall cobb (Alcoa), Dont'a Hightower(Marshall County), Brent Burnette (Maryville), Aaron Douglas(Maryville), LaDarrius Verge (Riverdale), Michael Hammons (Polk County)...all mr. football winners make up the east roster. Granted i know a lot of talented west tennessee players were probably invited and no playing. I just know who i have seen play, and i have not actually watched a high school running back dominate the way Andre Sterling has for farragut. its going to be a fun game to watch regardless. good luck to all
  11. well im from knoxville, i have family on the roster. of course im bias, just as every other person on this thing. haha i have not seen anybody from west, obviously, but ive watched Cobb from Alcoa. Plus i watch Maryville players march over competition like its nothing. i would almost take maryville up against the all-star teams. haha but im sure the west is good, you have kids out of memphis and jackson that im sure are very talented. they produce plenty of college talent. ill be at the game and ill just see it all for myself. your west will have a chance to prove me wrong.
  12. Not a lot of people have seen the kid play, but yeah, Mike Hammons is the best kicker in the state. He took home Mr. Football Kicker of the Year regardless of what region he was up against. He beat out that Whitehead kid from Blount and the other kid from Jackson. He set camp records no matter where he went and his punt average in the mid-40's was mostly because of the position on the field he was kicking from. His punting accuracy is crazy. He is a great kicker as well, but his team didn't attempt many long field goals. He was very underrated kicker most of the year and not many people had heard of him until his name come up for Mr. Football. You'll be able to watch him one more time as he is the kicker/punter for the East in the All-Star game.

  14. The east team seems to be loaded. Looks like all the Mr. Football Kicker of the Year Mike Hammons will have to do is kick extra points. haha GO EAST!!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. im from a small town in tennessee and don't follow high school too often, but it sounds like an all out fan battle is going on with this Smyrna kid winning Mr. Football. I wouldn't worry too much about it, if that RB is that good, he'll go on in his career and do great. This award won't affect that. Just Congratulations to all the winners. Talking about east Tennessee kids not doing well against middle and west tennessee, congratulations to Michael Hammons winning the Kicker of the Year, representing a county with only one high school, haha, and getting not only the first ever nomination for Mr. Football but winning it as well. Great kid, and nobody deserved it more. Most talented kicker in the state.
