  1. I have just added a new piece of advice to my site at http://www.smartsoftball.net/advice2.htm Coach Hal's Foundation Method. This is exactly how I start off young pitchers and tune up the more experienced ones too. This piece of advice includes the three things in a pitchers overall motions and timing that are absolutely necessary for the motions to be considered 'safe pitching mechanics' for the female shoulder complex. I know alot of the coaches also work with young pitchers so I thought I would post it here also. Have a great 2005 season and I hope you find it useful and informative. Thanks. Hal
  2. Weight back and balance drill. I have just added this piece of advice to my site. You can read it at http://www.smartsoftball.net/advice.htm Have a great 2004 season. Coach Hal
  3. I have just added a new piece of advice to my website at http://www.smartsoftball.net/advice7.htm COACH HAL'S 'SHOOTOUT'. This is a drill that serves many useful purposes for me as an instructor. It is also a very fun game that my students love to play. It builds confidence, speeds up a pitcher's motions, speeds up their defensive and self-defense reaction time and is an excellent tactic to use against the batters they face. If you have a pitcher that is "Gunshy" from being hit by a batted ball, this is an excellent way to build their confidence back up. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful. Hal www.smartsoftball.net
  4. I received the following from Coach Gary Mullican of the USA Jr. Men˜s softball team. They are looking for the best players to attend try outs, including any baseball players that would be interested. Please respond to coach Mullican directly at his e-mail address or phone number listed below. I know this is off the beaten path of most softball boards but perhaps someone here knows a young man that might be interested. Thanks. Hal -----Original Message----- From: Gary Mullican[mailto:Muckk@cox.net] Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 1:10 PM To: Tim Lyon Subject: USA Jr. Men's National Team Gentlemen, Below is a letter from our head coach explaining our position. The coaching staff has been hard at work since USA softball selected the coaching staff and we believe that we already have a far superior pool of players than the team we took to the 2001 World Championships in Australia. We take this very seriously and are working to make it the best it can possibly be. However, since there are only three of us, we need your help. Many of you have played or been around the game for a number of years, and during those years have made numerous friends and or contacts. We believe that because of this you may be able to help us in our quest to locate the best talent for the program. So, if you have any information regarding players (baseball is ok also) please contact us. Thank you, Gary Mullican USA Jr Men's National Softball (949) 716-0229 We are looking for players to add to the jr men's players pool. This pool will be used to invite players to developmental camps and from these camps, we will choose the National Team for the World Championships in 2005. Do you have a son, nephew or neighbor who we should know about? We are looking for top level athletes who would have an interest in being part of the national team program. These boys must have been born in 1986, 87, 88, etc I am looking for the following information Name Address Phone, Fax and Cell numbers Other email addresses Primary position Other positions? Height, Weight Throws? Bats? Birth date? Strengths? Team they played on last summer? Do they play baseball or other sports? if so, please name Anything else you think I need to know. Thanks for your help Tim Lyon
  5. I had the privilege of working with a young pitcher from Canada just before Christmas. Her story is one that is very inspirational. It made the newspaper here locally. I have posted a copy of the story at my site for those that would like to see it. You can see it by clicking on this URL http://www.smartsoftball.net/advice2.htm I hope you find her story as inspirational as we at our academy all found this young pitcher to be to us. Have a great 2003 season. Sincerely, Hal
  6. I have just put a 15 second clip of me throwing with the double pump and submarine wind ups for those that might not be familiar with either or both. Click on the link below and then click on the picture to start the video clip. Notice how similar they are at the start of the pitch. Have a great holiday seasson and be safe. http://www.smartsoftball.net/advice7.htm
  7. Someone posted and said his/her daughter got sore ankles from doing this exercise. It is very possible she might have started coming down with her landing foot on the heel, instead of the sole of the shoe flat to the ground. If that is the case, make sure she comes down with the sole flat to the ground and does not lanfd on her heel first.

  9. If you are a pitcher, the next time you practice, strap a 3 pound ankle weight on each leg for half the session. Take them off for the last half and see what happens. Let me know. Hal http://www.smartsoftball.net/advice.htm [Edited by smartsoftball on 11-4-02 9:59P]
