  1. I guess they are D2 now.  Seems like it was not that long ago that Boyd was a doormat.  Now they have a very strong program.  Seems like the win over Red Bank a few years ago was a watershed moment.  I remember thinking, "That's not supposed to happen."  Credit to them.

  2. FYI, I'm 100% against a public-private split and the zillions of classifications we have today.  IMO we should have no split and should go back to three classes.  I couldn't tell you what class my own high school is in anymore without looking it up.  As a fan, it has severely affected my interest of HS FB. IMO it is the fault of the public school system that the privates dominate. That said, many kids zoned for publics do wind up at privates in today's environment (and who can blame them?).  Regarding the above, maybe a star football player living on Tombras Avenue in ER, who could have helped the Pioneers in the playoffs, instead attended Mc or B or Boyd or Silverdale.  Again, hard to blame the kid, if so.  Yes, ER did beat ND in regular season.  But they also lost in playoffs.  Look forward to following your posts here.  Guessing you either live in Chatty or are a huge follower of HS FB -- or both.

and the Knoxville privates and open zoned schools ant scooping up all the talent up there......HC or assistant, it dont matter...

there wernt no players from The Gateway to Southeast TN and the confines of Pioneer Academy startin on any them 2 private teams that ER played on Malones 1 great year and ER's 1st winning season in 7 years...especially wernt no ER starters startin on that one Private school that spanked them in the 1/4-finals.....and the other private, the one ER beat twice sure ant robbin chattanooga PUBS of any talent

Tracy is a likable feller and wish him the best of luck

    Booger just sayin  :popcorneater:

Wow, good info.  I take what you say as true, but players zoned for places like ER, Hixson, Red Bank, or Soddy-Daisy often wind up at the big privates in town, which would hurt those publics in the playoffs, which I'm sure you know.  Didn't Notre Dame knock ER out that year?  Surprising that they had none from the ER zone.

I think the last time they played each other was 2004. CB dropped Polk the following year. Yes, Coach Davis is still the head coach. His staff has changed a good bit, but his dad still helps. Coach Davis is a great dude and great coach. He and his staff are first class! Go Wildcats!

Glad his dad is doing better.  Last I heard he was going through some health problems.  One thing not many can beat Polk in is the beauty of the stadium, with the mountain in the background (behind the visitors' stands).  In fact, I remember telling that to Derrick when I met him.  Polk is one of those teams I have no connection to but always cheer for.

  5. Malone had a great season at East Ridge a few years ago finishing the regular season undefeated (not easy to do in Chattanooga where the privates scoop up all the talent).  He then went to Whitwell for a season.  Before all of that, he had been at Riverdale and at schools in Alabama and Georgia.  Apparently, he was burned out and went into private business as a real estate agent after Whitwell.  The coaching bug got him again and he is now at Austin-East.  He really connects with high schoolers and is a fine field coach.  I don't know what the talent is like at A-E these days.  But if it ever returns to how it was during the days of the McKenzies and Leroy Thompson, and others, it could be interesting.

  6. When did the two teams last play?  I hadn't thought of it until reading this post, but I don't recall them ever playing.

Is Derrick Davis still the coach?  I met him one time when I was checking out the new stadium.  Really a nice guy.  Glad to see them doing well and hope they have a big season.

  7. I remember several years ago, when Pickett won the state in boys hoops.  Early '90s?  One really good player.  I wish I could remember the details.

I love the small schools in football.  Hartsville, Oneida, South Pittsburg...

    And now Jellico!

  8. So they beat Pickett tonight? What was the score? I'm on Coacht mobile & can't access the scores for some reason.

From TSSAA website:  Jellico 36, Pickett Co. 16!

No offense to Pickett.  But they've had some success in hoops.  Jellico hasn't had much success in anything.

  9. There's a new app out there that tries to put out HS scores.  But it's hard to top the best right  here.  I downloaded it out of curiosity.  And then removed it.  Just wanted to give a big thanks to Coach T.  I'm trying now to find the score for my dad's Evanston Township HS vs Proviso West (Chicago area).  Doesn't look they have a Coach T!

Someone told me to try the Chicago Sun Times site.  Good prep coverage.  Good, but not like Coach T.

  10. I will always be against a public-private split, since I think the public schools are their own worst enemies.  With any kind of organization, the publics would dominate the privates.

Anyhow, the way things are now, the privates are dominating more than ever.  Some notable scores from tonight.

Chattanooga Christian, which started its program 4 or 5 years ago, beat Brainerd, 24-21.

    Lausanne d Germantown, 42-7.

Those two stand out to me.

    Others...

Baylor 35-27 over Rhea at Evensville.

    CBHS d White Station, 28-20.

Quite a few other privates over publics of note.  But Alcoa gets it done for the publics tonight blanking Webb, 35-0.

  11. In 1926, Large John and the "Crimson Whirlwind"beat the Walland "Leathernecks" the Lenoir City " Hosiery Makers" and the Sevierville "Hill Billies".

Along those lines, I think the old Etowah HS had a great name.  Piledrivers or something like that.
