  1. There is a lot of young talent out there in 14a this year..Its been a roller coaster this year in 14a..Is this thing up for grabs or is there a lock for MVP this year..What's yalls thoughts?

Got to go with Mr. Tony Robinson from GF////2nd between Coleman//Bradford//Stockdale//DeBerry
  2. I was not at the game. I believe it was 75-5 at the end of the first half. That would make it only 29-5 in the second half, so clearly Coach Barnwell took the foot off the gas in the second half some. Science Hill is a national caliber team. Crockett is trying to build a program that has been down for years. The difference in talent level is huge as the score indicates. If Science Hill had pressed for 4 quarters with no running clock, they probably could have scored 200 points. It is of no benefit for them to do so and they did not. I am sure Coach Conley would like his team to be more competitive, but they are not there yet. I would not read too much ill intent into this game. The 100 point mark always stirs up the emotional level. Science Hill is just that much better than Crockett right now. Most coaches will find themselves on both sides of a score like this at some point in their career. Some will score the 100, some will not and people will make a judgement call when they do. It should certainly serve as motivation to improve for the losing team.

Buddy, got news Science Hill is NO national caliber team. You guys just haven't beaten any great teams.
  3. Greenfield is like 11-3 with wins at Humboldt...and at Lake Co.....we also beat Union City....and yet, the Jackets arent ranked....somethings wrong.

Volfan...I too think your Jackets deserve some consderation...most likely several of the voters have met Greenfieldfan and are holding that against Greenfield. I truly believe the Yellowjackets are amongst the top ten teams in the state. If they can continue to play as they were before Christmas...think eventually they will get noticed. District 14A has never been more wide-open in my memory. Believe there are legitimately 6 teams with a chance on any given night that can beat any of the other 5 if they are playing well.
  4. Winning middle school games means nothing!!!! High School basketball is a completely different level than middle school....

I heard all of this talk about Lake Co. several years ago when they won it all in middle school with TT, Carnation and all of those others. In my opinon, they should've won a state championship over these past 4 years with all of that talent. Something isn't right with that picture. You say it's about more than putting good players on the court.... I'm clueless here because usually good players is what wins high school championships. It did at Gibson Co. anyways.....

Same with Union City.... UNION CITY SHOULD WIN STATE THIS YEAR OR NEXT! If they don't, they will be the same ole story that Lake Co. was.

Do you not realize that Gibson Co. is competing in a much tougher district right now than they would be in 14A? Like I said, you guys let this loss to Greenfield go to your head quick. Yes, it's a big win for them and bad loss for us, however, look at the games where we played Dyersburg, Westview, Obion down to the wire and 2 of those 3 games were away games. Also, we beat Greenfield earlier this year at our place by like 12, but we were up by as many as 20 in the game. I'm just trying to tell you people, you really don't want to see Gibson Co. come into 14A next year or for the next 8-10 years. The young talent is there in the middle school's and in our Freshman class.

GC, got news for you. What GC did in the past is not gonna get you any wins next year. The players now have different coaches and don't know what it takes to win the way your teams did in the past. Next year I can see GC being anywhere from 2nd-5th in 14A. We in 14A welcome the addition of GC but certainly don't fear their arrival.
  5. Outside of Rhaven Kemp, Liberty is not very good at all. UC and Lake Co. should've beaten Liberty like a drum.

vol, Greenfield beating Gibson is a big win for you guys. I honestly didn't think we'd lose, but I figured it'd be close. It was close last year at Greenfield...luckily, Gibson was able to win that one. You guys are always a scrappy and well-coached team. Good luck to you guys in this second half of the season!

GC, not sure you llady pioneers are as good as Liberty...if you guys were in 14A this year yoiu would be looking at 5th or 6th place. Don't see your team being a threat next year either
  6. I went back and looked and I believe the date was late Sept when someone posted that she torn her ACL the day before. Even for college, this is at least an 8 month recovery and rehab after sergury. Doctors will like err on the side of safety and caution for a high school student to 12 months after surgery.

    Has she had surgery yet?

If she was my daughter, regardless of how good she is or "this is our year", there is No way, Notta, Zip, Zilch, Nix, Zero chance that she plays this school year.

FIirst of all, lets get some facts straight. Amber's damage to her knee was not as severe as first reported. She did not have a complete tear of her ACL as was first reported. She is on schedule to return to action in a few weeks if there are no setbacks. I, too, hope she doesn't return too soon. Would not be worth risking her future this late in the season. However, if she is able to return early enough to get back in the flow with her team and get several games under her belt before tournament time, UC will be significantly better. They are already hands-down the best team in 14A and will only be better. Offensively, they will be 15-20 points better with her presence.
  7. Greenfield, you're wrong about us not "wanting" to play them. It's actually one of the reasons our coaches put us here...to play some of the best teams playing. Now if it would have been bad or not...I can't answer that one. I do know you talk lots about our team. Who y'all playing over Christmas break?

Greenfieldfan is the ultimate loser....he has nothing better to do than berate anyting UC....he must be one miserable human being
  8. Coach Angelos of Greenfield may turn people off because he can be loud and demonstrative, but he is the best coach in the district if all things are equal. He has had one or two really good players each year over the past five years, but his overall talent pales in comparison to Lake County, Humboldt, and Union City. Not at all to demean the players at Greenfield, but in just pure athletic and basketball ability, I would like to see what the coaches of the powerhouse schools could match or do better than Coach Angelos.

Jackets have hands-down the most-vauable player in 14A in Mr. Tony Robinson, he alone is the straw that stirs the drink for Greenfield. No one in 14A is close to being as important to their team as Robinson.
  9. Heck ya!! How dare him and the QB club get new weights, equipment, update the facilities, film room redone, revamped locker room, distill a sense of pride and winning attitude in kids .. they must be removed for doing that!! We don't need a football program. Its a basketball school and hunting club!!

got news for you....unless you are referring to girls basketball....the rebels are no longer a basketball school nor will they be anytime soon
  10. Who is Dorian Reid? Like I said, this sounds like the good old boy system in full effect. It'll be interesting to see what Coach Bland puts in the jacksonsun regarding his firing. I'm sure he will take the high road here, but it's pretty evident he got shafted. It doesn't look good considering Bland had to go to administration and ask about rumors that turned out to be true. When did Humboldt plan on telling him and what would their reasoning have been?

If Bland were a black man and Junior Reid were white, this would be national news. The Humboldt community has taken a LARGE step backwards
  11. You mean they arent playing for Lake Co?I always hear Lake Co has older playrs, like from the prison etc.The TSSAA should allow her to at least play against Union City just so she'd catch up as the UC coach cried before every game to the officilas about, watch TT drives. She always charges.I remember several ghost calls that were blatant. So since she already had a foul before the game started, should let her play.If I'm LC coach,I'm complaing before the game starts and watch for Union City reaching instead of playing defense with no calls. And also watch them going over the backs on rebounds.Because they are bigger and stronger than most teams down low, don't get called a lot of times

Biggie, not even Friday and the excuses are already being conjured up.
  12. I look for Humboldt to be the best team in the district followed by South Fulton this year.Believe LC,UC and maybe some others to fight it out for 3rd place etc.

I think it's a 3 team race...UC, Humboldt, and SF....think the falcons are likely 4th, they dont have any shooters...they do have some good athletes but will have nights where they will have trouble scoring...will have to rely on defense to get them easy transition baskets.
  13. Huntingdon is a fine mentally tough football team with an outstanding player in Warbritton. UC played them tough with the exception of the 2nd qtr in that unusual game where play was suspended because of sever weather. Both teams had to deal with the same set of circumstances and the Stangs responded alot better than we did. However, I dont see, in any crazy senario that there will be a repeat of those particular circumstances again. UC has 2 weeks to prepare and to get some key players ready to give the Stangs all they want in round 2. I like our chances. It.s more dificult to beat a good team twice in the same season. Defense is better and will be up to the challenge. The pressure is on Huntingdon.

Swo...I think you should save bigster a seat for this one since his falcons will be practicing basketball. They are gonna need extra practice for the Nov. 30th beat-down at the ThunderDome. Maybe if UC is still playing football they can use that as an excuse for not mauling his falcons quite so bad.
  14. There's no toss up between these 2. I guess anything could happen but Huntingdon has clearly the better team and has already proved it once.

poppy, hope your stangs think the way you do....obviously by your way of thinking west carroll is the hands-down favorite I guess.
