  1. Raiderfan - "This sight is a lot like other sites, it starts out being a place for coaches to come and discuss things and it turns into this." Did it start out being a place for coaches to come and discuss things when you joined on December 5, 2005 or was it always that way? It's interesting that this was the only thing you ever wanted to discuss. I also really like the way you edited your original post this morning. After somebody publicly made you and Davis look like fools, you should have just left it. This just makes you look even worse.

Gocats#1 - I don't know if you saw the original post or not, but it said something like

Has anybody heard that Davis is going to McMinn Central. I heard that they contacted him early on, etc. check it out now. Tacky.

go.chargers-thank you for pointing that out, I did notice but didn't realize that one could go back in and edit, what they had previously commented on. I do agree, it seems that the Davis fans are like alot of others, a tad bit shady. This has showed me who we CAN'T trust to be to an upcoming coach. Now, why should anyone believe that this guy is going to hang around. He has clearly just been saying what everyone wants to hear, not the truth about himself. Maybe he should get into the used car business instead!

raiderfanone-didn't realize your initial sign on date to the website was dec. 5th.

Shouldn't your sign in have been...BUCSfanone, Gruden has been in Tampa for 4years. Or maybe now you are a athens little league football fan..the Red Raiders.

Sorry if I sound a bit bent out of shape, but do you like to be lied to? I don't, especially when it is regarding a postion like this one, whoever gets this job in one way or the other is going to have a huge influence on the kids in my community!

  2. Not against Derrick at all, all I know about him is second hand and nothing has been negative. I have never said anything negative about Derrick, from what I hear he is a great guy, I know Heath likes him and they are friends. Your right I do know Heath, I know him well. And no I'm not a student at central and I don't teach there, I just have a lot of friends in that community. Actually my opinion is that I would like to see them both there, I don't know is that can actually happen. As far as the raider fan stuff goes, I could care less about MTSU I happen to Like John Gruden when he was with the Oakland Raiders. What we need to remember is that no matter what we say on here is going to determine who gets the job. I think this is all getting bent out of shape. I wish all the candidates luck and hope whoever gets the job is able to get it going.

I am truly sorry if I have offended you, I was simply asking a question. However, you were right on the money when you said "no matter what we say on here is going to determine who gets the job" it dosent matter what is on here, and it doesnt matter what any of us think, in a "fair-fair" world the better would win. I think a lot of people in this community have already made up their mind who that man is! Whether it be Derrick or Davis, good luck to them both!!!!!

  3. Your right, Davis was a student MGR at UT, however his role with the team was that of a student assistant, ask him and he will tell you the same, scholarships were given to mgrs and not student assistants. Gossett, where all has he coached? Just curious. Derrick, great guy, smart, and would do a good job.

Raiderfanone-you seem to know an awful lot about Davis, to hear everything "at the barber shop", and "second hand." You informed us that if we were to ask Davis about the UT postition he would "tell us the same", sounds like you have asked him personally. Also, just curious, are you a student or a teacher at Central, your asked early on if Derrick being at a bbgame meant he would be "our new coach" and then later stated that all the info was coming from "here at school" either way it just seems odd to me that you are apparently a Raider fan, I am assuming MTSU, which is where Davis' last "dream job" was at, and secondly you are such a proud supporter of him without knowing him personally. You almost seem like you are against Derrick getting this job, just curious to why?

  4. Your absolutely right. We're in desperate need of organization and good coaching. We need a coach who will build from the community-the rec, the middle school, the elementary school. We need someone soon too. These kids need some rules and need to know what to be doing in Feb, Mar, Apr, etc, to get ready for next year.

I am new to this, (coacht.com)but have been keeping up with all the hipe about the upcoming coaching positon. I am from Central and know both Derrick and Davis, I was actually on the team with both of them in '94. I personally would have to go with Derrick, what no one has mentioned during all this hoop-la, is that Derrick was the one who talked Davis and a few others on the team to actually go out and play their senior year. They had all ridiculed Derrick and the rest of the team for the past season (1-9). But that didn't stop Derrick from pushing them to spring practice and not to mention the gym @ 5am every morning prior to, and during the season. He was more than the quarterback of the "1994 Cinderella Team", he was an inspiration and even a coach to most of us. I have to agree with "sumzdad" even with the losing seasons in GA, he has stood by his team and on both sides of the ball has "built a mountian out of anthill." Futher more, anyone who knows of Coach Derrick, knows that the offense is his game, but Marty Wild took that from him and gave him the defense after Derrick had built the offense up, now he is the defensive coordinator and the defense seems to be the better of the two. That just goes to show what kind of leadership Derrick is having to deal with in GA. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for Derrick and for the kids @ Central. Derrick is a very goal oriented and stern guy, I know that if he comes back to Central it will not be for a few years, he will be here to stay and he will be here to lead this program to "State" year after year, and I have no doubt in my mind that he will do it!!

As for Davis, he too has had years in the coaching field, but I do have to question his ability to hang around and tuff it out through the hard times. Don't get me wrong I Davis is a genuine guy, and I like him a lot, but his record doesn't show us that he is determined to stay. Also, I think that it is great for goal in life is to be a college football coach, but Central is not a college and it will never be one. Plus Davis has actully only been in the high school coaching program half as much as Derrick, due to the fact that every other year or so, he decides to go chase his dream again. I feel like he is afraid of failure in the college career, and you can't be student coach forever, so he is tring to slide back into highschool coaching. I guess I sound a little negative towards Davis, but I just think that it is tacky that everytime Derrick puts in for a position then Davis has to run out and put in for as well. As far as I know Derrick and Davis are still friends are probably laughing about all of this, but if I were Davis I think I would know when to back down and let the let the better man in. Besides, Davis has coached at Central once before and didn't seem to intrested in hanging around for a head coaching postition then, why does he feel the need to come back now.

Derrick you have my support 100% and I know the support of a lot others!!!!!

I just hope for the sake of the football program and the kids that Freeman makes the right choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just caught news to this(coachT), I have been tring to keep up with all of the hipe of the new coaching positon at Central, sounds like the race is between Davis, and Derrick, but didn't a coach from Tellico put in for the position as well? As far as I know he is about the same age as the these two, and probably as much coaching experience as well. Has he completly been forgotten about? Other than that what I know about the two local boys I would have to lean more towards Derrick, what I can remember of him and what I have heard since he graduated have all been pretty great things. I don't remember that much about Davis, except that he played basketball, and didn't he even come back to Central and coach for a couple of years, if he truly wanted to change or help the football program why didn't he stay there? And didn't he even date a student or something, that wouldn't be the kind of coach or teacher I would want my daughter to be taught by. Plus hasn't the Derrick guy been in the DPA for some teaching award, that should count for something.
