  1. To yopur first "point"...what do you know about this that I apparently do not? Should students that transfer from other states be ineligible to play sports? I don't get it.

Also, FYI, every position is up for competition. Everyone who follows BA football knows that, as does every player. No player is assured of starting if there is someone better. Perhaps that is one reason why they win.

Regarding who is better, I can see why you might favor Ford over Jordan. Faster and better moves, and a more flashy style. Jordan is more of a "between the tackles" kind of back. Both are very good. Since BA is going more with a platoon system this year, the move also allowed Tyree to play corner full time, which is probably where he will play at the next level. As far as Bledsoe over Caffee, I just don't see it. Caffee is a better, stronger runner and has a much stronger arm. BA runs flat passes a lot, and Caffee gets the ball there way faster than Bledsoe. It's really not very close IMO.

itzme, I find it interesting that you show so much support for Caffee. I have several BA friends who have son's that play football. They have made several comments that they don't understand why a kid would leave their school for their senior year. I have seen both players play (Caffee and Bledsoe) and to be honest, I would have to agree with BL. Sure Caffee is bigger and seems to run the ball well, but he does not throw the ball any better then Bledsoe. What I have seen and heard about Caffe is that he overthrows on most long balls and makes poor decisions when he is pressured. I have been told that Bledsoe has the QB mentality that is needed to be successful. And I remember him running a QB sneak on 3rd and 1 and he gained 10 against MBA. I guess when he is in he feels like he has the horses around him to make the plays and he doesn't need to run the ball himself. Kind of like other Pro style QB's. I feel sorry for Garrett, Kottas,Ford and White. They do not have near the number that they should at this point in the year. From what I have heard, it has been a Caffee and Jordan show this year. I was also told, that the reason Caffee left Texas was because he did not like to be in a rotation at QB. Now how is that for a team player. Hey, did Bledsoe leave BA and transfer because some kid came in to take over his spot. And like BL said, what about loyalty. I was told that Bledsoe has been at BA since 6th grade. I guess loyalty is not in the BA mission statement. I know that the people over there are counting down the days until Flatt retires.

  2. If MBA hopes to have any chance to win, it will have to revive its defense. (The Big Red defense apparently missed the bus to Memphis last week.)

MBA's secondary is banged up and not exactly fleet of foot; Tate has a good chance for a big game - maybe three TDs.

Additionally, Soph RB Crum (injured achilles tendon) will have to play for MBA to win along with Soph QB Wise completing enough passes to keep the defense honest. A third down conversion rate of greater than 50% is imperative and being able to complete 7 to 10 yard passes over the middle would be of great help.

It will take a complete TEAM effort on MBA's part to win.

I believe the Big Red will be ready to play. The defense is going to have to work extra hard and try to score some points to be able to keep up with Tate. But yes, MBA wins.

  3. RRR

You raise some good points as usual. However, I think it is a mistake to think BA's win over Baylor tells us much of anything. The score was tied at the half and Baylor's 3 wins come against teams with a record of 0-12 (I think). I think Baylor is down a tad this year and BA really did not look good in beating them.

I did not see the BA Manual score--who played RB--Ford or Jordan?

I talked with a BA friend after they had played Manual and he said that Manual was a very weak team. Large number of players but very small and just not very good. He said that it was a shame that they did play in the game after them against Louisville Male. He said that they were huge and looked like they would have been a good match for BA. I believe BA won 40 something to 0? I don't remember who he said played FB but I want to believe that it was Jordan.

  4. MBA travels down to Memphis for the second time this year. The Big Red are coming off a win over CPA and CBHS is coming off a tough 6-0 loss to Melrose. The Purple Wave would appear to be down this year, but I know they will come with their best effort against MBA. I would expect a good game.

Interesting thought: CBHS has 850 boys in grades 9-12. By far, the largest enrollment in D-II. MBA has 462.

    Roll Red!

I do agree that CBHS seems to be down this year, but it still should be interesting. In DII you never know what will happen.

  5. Here are the stats. Except for possession time (This isn't wrestling! R'dale wasn't awarded riding points) it was a very evenly matched game.

    Team Statistics (Final)

    Riverdale McCallie

    FIRST DOWNS................... 21 21

    Rushing..................... 21 9

    Passing..................... 0 12

    Penalty..................... 0 0

    Rushing Attempts.............. 55 21

    Yards Gained Rushing..... 452 160

    Yards Lost Rushing.......... 3 0

    NET YARDS RUSHING.... 449 160

    NET YARDS PASSING.... 0 273

    Passes Attempted............ 3 39

    Passes Completed............ 0 20

You mean that Riverdale had zero yards passing! You talk about old school.

  6. Crymea River is right. Hate to hear remarks like that from Dunbar's coach. The more I think about it, the hapier I am with this win. We put up 24 points, held them to 7, and turned the ball over only once in a victory over a Top 10 4A(highest class in KY) school in Kentucky. Let's not forget that this was the first game of the year with alot of new faces playing for MBA. To me, though, those kind of comments get me fired up. Hopefully, this MBA team will take those comments and turn them into a little motivation for this week's trip to Trinity. Let's take two from Kentucky this year! Roll Red!

We must remember that Ky is a basketball state and not a football state and not worry about what they say. We won Friday and will win again this coming Friday. Go Big Red!

  7. BA has a number of offensive weapons this year. Chris Jordan and Ryan White both looked strong in the backfield. Tyree Ford only had two carries and spent

the bulk of his playing time at cornerback (2 picks tonight).

Caffee had a 60 yard TD run off a Qback draw. Offense looked sharp and defense

was dominant. Manual scored with under a minute in the 4th against 3rd team.

There is still a lot of football to be played but BA looked very impressive tonight

    with very few mistakes.

I talked with a BA players dad and he said that BA has yet to play a good team in their scrimmages and one game. He said that their first real test might be Baylor, since they have a new coach, if not them then the team from Mississippi.

  8. Wes,

That was a daunting task last year...even with Kottas at WR..BA will have to have someone who can somewhat handle the ball behind center..something they lacked last year

I was talking to a BA dad yesterday. He said that if Flatt had started last year with Garrett and Kottas at WR and Bledsoe at QB they would have had a much better season. He said that Bledsoe was just getting started when their season ended. I believe that he said that he only had 5 starts.

  9. Talent is right Wes. A new transfer from GA has the BA camp in stir like I have never seen. His name is Chris Jordan. He is a junior 6'2" 225lbs and ran a 4.3 40 this week (slightly better than Tyree). He evidently started and rushed for a bunch of yards last year as a sophomore for Norcross High School.

What position will he play? Fullback or tailback? What on defense?

  10. McCallie, Baylor,GPS and CCS last year had a combined 20+ Merit Scholar Semifinalists and even more honerable mentions (or whatever the runnerup designation is). Hamilton County public schools combined had one. Last year wasn't an abberation but only the last year in a very long trend. I imagine the numbers would be similar in Davidson and Shelby counties for elite private schools versus public. I don't think it's a healty situation but it is what it is. I bet Knox county has different results because of different demographics.

I don't doubt the NYT study but that's not our experience in Hamilton County.

Elite is the key word here. MBA and Harpeth Hall fit in with the schools mentioned above.

  11. Very tough to pick, as always. Unlike last year, BA has the most talent overall, but IMHO, they also had it in 2001 and 2004 yet did not win. They must get more productivity out of the QB position, as they have, arguably, two of the top 3 or 4 receivers in DII AAA. MBA is always very tough, and both MUS and McCallie will also have very good teams.

The usual "murderer's row" preseason schedules for all these teams will tell us a lot.

Anyone want to predict what BA's first offensive play of the season will be?? :thumb:

How good is Louisville Manual? Do you know anything about them?

  12. Pope has a new qb o the way and it will be Jonny Drennan. He is a very good athlete and might just compete forthe starting job this year as a freshman.

Where did Drennan play middle school ball? Will he be able to get the ball to Tate? I'm sure that Tate's numbers want be near what they were last year.

  13. The district that Aledo played in this past fall had 6 teams.

    Stephenville - 10-0 regular 3-1 playoffs

    Mineral Wells 9-1 ? regular 0-1 playoffs

    Aledo 5-5 regular 3-1 playoffs

    Cleburne 3-7 regular

    Brewer 3-7 regular

    Joshua 0-10 regular

All District team: MVP-QB from Stephenville -Jevan Snead (I think that's right)

Newcomer of the year: (Which I was told is the best sophomore of the year)

    QB,WR,DB - Cole Loftin-Aledo

1st team offense - Trent Caffee- Aledo

Texas also divides the districts up at playoff time into Division I and Division II.

The highest team goes to DI. The next two go to DII.

Aledo is suppose to win it all next year in 4A.

I wonder what this Caffee kids stats were from his Texas school. I have a buddy whose son plays for BHS and they have played a little 7 on7 the past two weeks. He said that Caffe didn't impress them at all.

  14. I was reading on rivals that B.J. Coleman has only had offers from Marshall and UTC. I know it is still early, but I was a little surprised by that. It seems that all the top QB's are committing early this year.

  15. I havent heard anything about Park committing to Ole Miss in either sport, but baseball would be his best bet at Ole Miss, and I think he would agree.

Read in the paper the other day that Park has committed to Ole Miss to play baseball.

  16. He actually became the starting running back for MUS a few games in to the season last year, and was Park's backup at QB. He is a very talented athlete, to say the least. I think he weighed close to, if not 200lbs, last season at RB yet very quick- he is a lefty.

Who will be Park's backup this year? Also, I heard that Park has committed to Mississippi. Is this true? I can't find it anywhere.
