  1. District play starts tonight.  Some burning questions for the season.

    1.  Will Portand move out of the cellar this year?

    2.  Will Chowbay fit in at Central?

    3.  If Station Camp does not win the district, will they fire the recruiter? LOL

    4.  Will Lebanon have their first winning season in district play since joining 9AAA?

Let's take a midseason look at the burning questions.

    1. Portland, cellar dwellers no more?

    2. Round peg, square hole.

    3. The recruiter is feeling the heat!

    4. The crystal ball is really cloudy.

  2. As far as Coach Allen is concerned he does a good job with what he has. Some coaches are willing to put up with prima donnas and some are not. For some, winning is more important than teaching character (or leading by example). There is more to coaching than wins and losses.

    Well said.

  3. Please explain, what was the issue?

He played football at Mt. Juliet for 4 yrs. He played basketball for three years. Evidently there was friction between him and Coach Allen. I do not know all the details. He was not allowed (or he chose not to return) to play basketball this season. Right after football season was over, he moved to Wilson Central's zone, withdrew from Mt. Juliet and enrolled at Central. He played several basketball games at Central. From here the details get sketchy. A few weeks ago he allegedly shows up at a Mt. Juliet game under the influence and was arrested.

  4. Riddle me this Chickie. What head coach (es) in 9AAA has/have  never coached in the state tournament?

I think Central has been to state 4 times. Not sure if Bond was the head coach all four times.

McDowell, at Lebanon, went as a player. He is only in his 4th year as a head coach.

  5. So what is going on in this wild district? Who is the best? Best Player? Why is WC down? Any coaches on hot seat/leaving?

Wilson Central had about 10 seniors on last years team. Of the best two juniors, one transfered and one decided not to play basketball this year. They had two kids transfer in, but they have gotten into trouble and are off the team.

I do not believe any coaches are on the hot seat.

  6. When you are the best everyone else gets quiet. Kyle is the mvp this season and camp is best team in district.

Why haven't you posted your top five?

I will post yours for you.

    Chicky's top 5.

          1. Kyle

          2. Kyle

          3. Kyle

          4. Kyle

          5. Kyle

  8. Ten states currently force public schools to allow homeschoolers access to classes or sports part-time. These states are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, and Washington

Tennessee is not included on your list.  Do you think Tennessee's law does not require public schools to allow homeschoolers to participate?  The way I read the law, Tennessee public schools who are members of TSSAA must allow homeschoolers to try out.

Unless I missed it, no-one else has mentioned homeshoolers playing for a public school outside the two I listed in my first post.

  9. My understanding is that Bradley County School Board and Cleveland City School Board voted not to allow Home Schoolers to play. I am not aware of Home School kids playing in Hamilton County (ie, Chattanooga) schools.

Here is an article I found on it.

Interesting article.  This is from August 2011.  TSSAA passed their rule allowing home school participation in 2010.  The state law requiring public schools to allow home school participation was passed in 2013.
