1. Riverside , for obvious reasons ,would be odds on fovorites to win. Adamsville , Perry Co. ,Greenfield , Eagleville , Friendship ,Summertown , should be in the hunt , plus Huntingdon is always tough from West Tn.

Perry Co. couldn't play dead in a western!!

  2. Ok, here is my question then. If you see this a totally unjustified, then why wouldn't USJ's coach have gone crazy about the ejection. He came out and spoke with the umpire, and that was it. Seems like he would have had a bigger issue with it, if it was unjustified.

There was no reason for the coach to make a scene or argue the ejection. As far as I know that has never gotten an ejected player back into the game. One coach had already made a spectacle of himself for his own benefit. Why should the other one be expected to? It was a ridiculous ejection, and no amount of arguing could reverse it!

  3. I didn't discuss Gant getting ejected in my post. It was about a coach arguing with an umpire. Since you specifically directed this post to me I will mention though that many people knew Gant had already been dropping some f-bombs. You may not have been able to hear it but that is not my problem, I'm not a doctor. He did question the umpire two pitches earlier from the mound (which in my opinion crossed the line). Then he went on to argue more after the batter got a hit.

He asked for a clarification on where the pitch missed. That's baseball. All I'm saying is let's track the rabbit the way he went!

  4. Maybe its a little different for a coach to argue with an umpire than a 17 or 18 year old high school ball player?

If that is a little then what is a lot? The only difference I noticed was that everyone in the park could see the 1st base coach going nuts, and no one knew that Gant said anything until he was ejected. So the point you are making is that there is no problem with a coach showing an umpire up just to be seen, but no matter how professionally it is displayed, a player can never express frustration with an umpire. I thought you were finished discussing this anyway????

  5. according to the cbhs third base coach gant did not get tossed for touching or talking to the umpire, he got tossed because when he was talking to the umpire he dropped the f bomb. and that word will always get u tossed

We all know he didn't get tossed for touching the umpire because he never touched the umpire. So you are saying he didn't get tossed for talking, just saying certain words. Still sounds like talking to me. If the conversation had anything to do with a monkey and a football, then I agree totally! That's about the only way I can think of to describe the officiating of Friday night's game! I remember when pointing at an umpire repeatedly and making a fool of yourself from the 1st base coaching box could get you an early exit. I guess actions really don't speak louder than words!!

  6. Final score was 10 to 6. No matter what anyone says the streak was broken by the Hawks....Unless the score is overturned(thats not going to happen) . The streak gets broken but instead of giving the other team credit just accuse the umps and hawks of cheating /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> The Hawks won fair and square!!!!!!!!!! just curious..has Lexington ever won a game on questionable calls????? of course not!!!!! Lexington wins fair and square but can only be beat if the other team gets help from the umps... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

What was the argument about? Why would there be a possibility of the score being overturned because of questionable calls? I wasn't at the game, but I heard something about a rulebook being torn up or something. I'm guessing the argument wasn't concerning balls and strikes or any other judgement calls.

  7. The worst of the rain wasn't over. We had the capability of looking at radar and seeing another line of rain just west of M'boro. So, the tarp is out, more rain on the way, it's a pointless tournament game...what's the point?

Grandma's in the stands? Come on...maybe USJ's folks were waiting around for kids to get their stuff, as were Oakland's parent's. Everyone I saw waiting around was either in the concession stand or under the stairs trying to stay dry.

Gant was good, but he's not infallible, i.e., the ball that Dodd hit that's still in orbit (which scored a runner on base via a Gant HBP) so who's to say when Dodd or any of the other Oakland players came up in the bottom of the inning that they wouldn't have gone yard again and and beaten USJ again.

See it for what it is...a good game between two heavyweights. It's just a game. But, don't make accusations and imply that you know what was said between coaches, umpires, etc. And, certainly don't imply improprieties by Oakland's staff. From the other posts here, USJ has issues of their own.

It wasn't a win, never will be a win and if you think it is, you're delusional.

The rain never got any harder than it was when the tarp was initially put on. The point of the tarp as I understand it is to extend play in rainy situations. There were no other games on that field last night after this one.

As far as I know a slider is legal and so is a fastball. That's what was doing the damage last night.

  8. The worst of the rain was over when the game was called. It was very unreasonable to stop at that point of the game. If it was only in the 2nd or 3rd inning it would be different, but it was very close to being complete. The hardest rain only lasted about 10 minutes. I think the 3 K's that stranded a man on 2nd the previous inning had more to do with the decision than the weather.

  9. Sorry I had to miss all the action today! MC has a fine team, and good luck next year!! Thursday will be a test for the Bruins, but I'll probably have to catch it on the radio again. You've got to hit your way out of the loser's bracket ,and USJ is starting to hit like they have all season.

  10. QUOTE(NEWSTANG @ May 8 2007 - 12:44 PM) 826454464After talking with the official scorer, he said that there were 2 other people in the box that were making decisions on the calls with him. So who were the other two, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

    I wouldn't be a bit surprised!!

  11. I thought Ripley did a nice job of staying in the game last night. They took advantage of mistakes in the field, and really battled at the plate! The shortstop was impressive both in the field and at the plate. They had one lefty who hit the ball hard all over the field as well!! I've seen both teams play better defensively, but errors happen. Who's idea was it to invite Helen Keller to be the official scorer though????????? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  12. I thought Huntingdon looked a little flat to say the least. I'm sure they're generally better than that defensively. I did notice their coach held them over after the game to practice. He was obviously expecting more from his team. The loss and the extra drills may pay off in the near future. One thing is for sure. Huntingdon is a much better program with coach Eubanks than they have been in the last several years!! Nice work over there, and good luck!

  13. The best answer to this problem would be to go back to using wooden bats!! I think New York has already put that rule into action. It will be a lot less expensive than major changes to park dimensions. It will definitely do more to put a stop to cheap homers than making all fields at least 300 down the lines and 330 in center. Just another take on the situation.

  14. I missed the second game, but I agree that errors were not the deciding factor in the first one. However, they certainly made the final score a little more one-sided than it should have been. On a positive note for Ripley, Bridges is still hangin in there with that painted on uniform. I don't think any of the 30 pop-ups to the catcher during infield went into the stands this year either.

  15. QUOTE(deergirl @ Apr 3 2007 - 02:03 PM) 826429046I believe that in the end, it doesn't matter what the schedule is like, who you beat, or the strenghth of your schedule. It only comes to winning games at the right time--when tournament play starts. In the past, there have been some pretty good teams that have lost a number of games to teams they should have beaten, but end up being State Champs. If my memory serves me correct, Covingon lost a number of games last year, and then they ended up winning it all. At that point, it didn't matter what their schedule was like, who they lost to, or what their strength of schedule was.

Good point about Covington last year! I don't think it even mattered if the head coach was able to breathe in his uniform or not!

  16. QUOTE(JoseWales @ Mar 5 2007 - 10:49 AM) 826400427There are two guys that make it tough to get a ball up the middle. One is from Ripley, Kayan Norfork, senior. Dives, jumps rolls etc... Whatever it takes to knock the ball down.

The other is Danny Grimm, Junior, from USJ. Lightening fast, charges the ball, and never stops to make the throw.

Both guys are something to watch.

I agree with you on Grimm. He is a great athlete, and he really gets after it everyday. I haven't seen Norfork very much, but I'll take your word for it!!

P.S. "Works wonders on just about everything, huh? How is it with stains?"

  17. The top 20 from the west would be a great team, but I bet the Knoxville and Chattanooga areas have some equally impressive talent. Some of the best arms in the state are in middle TN too! I'd say that would be a great 3 team tournament!!

  18. Hasn't the Supreme Court ruled that drug testing of students is legal?

Are you saying that students have the right to get high on the weekends and juice up for football games?

If they don't, then why don't people have the right to check to make sure they aren't doing that?

If I had a child in high school playing athletics, I'd want my son or daughter to be tested. I'd even pay for it myself. It's not because I wouldn't trust them. But I too was a kid once and know peer pressures of kids.

Sometimes you have to get off the soapbox of taking away perceived rights for the greater good. I'd say this is a greater good if it was able to stop a problem before it got out of hand.

I don't think it is necessary to advise most people in this area of the country about relinquishing rights for the "greater good". We seem to have had no problem with that recently. As for stopping a problem before it gets out of hand, I would say that if random drug testing at high schools is a legitimate option, then the problem has already crossed that bridge.
