  1. wow how dumb can you get?? trotter slowed the game down cuz he wanted PC to run and shoot and hope they missed and then get the ball back and then they would run some clock off then make a shot then repeat the process...but with Kirk (aka. so called knucklehead??) holding the ball summertown couldn't do anything...trotters the "knucklehead in this category because he wanted to hold the ball when we were up by 4 points...obviously he's stupid for not knowing the score

Wow...do you really think that was Trotter's plan? Make the other team shoot and miss, get the ball, run some clock, make a shot and repeat the process? You should write that plan down and patent it before Trotter does because I don't think anyone has thought of that before.

The point is...the fewer possessions in this game, the better chance Summertown had to win...simple as that. When PC held the ball it supported Summertown's plan of limiting possessions. When the ball was tossed up, Summertown was 1 possession away from taking the lead. When the game ended Summertown was 2 possessions from taking the lead. Not bad.

  2. hey genius if that knucklehead knows stown is gonna hold the ball like that then why not come out and hold it yourself??? If PC runs the floor this one would be ugly

Did you even think before you posted? Why would PC want to slow it down/hold the ball? That's exactly what Summertown wanted...your last sentence confirms this Einstein.

How in the heck did you find your way home tonight?

  3. Raise your hand if you think this would have been a 1 possession game at half and a 2 possession game at the end if Summertown plays a regular pace game?

    I don't see many hands...

Summertown's plan of limiting possessions worked. Don't rip on a coach when his gameplan keeps a team in it until the final minute....especially when a team is without is 2nd leading scorer.

And who said PC coach was giving S'town a taste of their own medicine by holding the ball...heck that knucklehead was helping Trotter with his game plan.

  4. Had a similar situation happen this year, with the exact opposite reaction taking place, and was told by 4 TSSAA umpires on site that the distance the catcher is from home is irrelevant if there is a collision/close play. My biggest problem is not the 3rd baseman, its to me what looked like a coach coming from the Houston dugout.

And lastly, I am really hoping that Midtnblu you're not an umpire, because if you don't know that rule you are definitely an ignoramus.

I did not quote a rule...not sure what you are talking about. I merely corrected a previous post by another member that stated "runner must avoid contact no matter what". The poster replied and agreed that he was incorrect by using the broad statement "runner must avoid contact no matter what".

Please inform all of us as to which rule you are referring.

  5. High school rules state the runner must avoid contact no matter what.

Wrong ...wrong...and just plain wrong. It pains me sometimes to read some of the BS that people who think they know the rules and then quote them here. No where in the FED rulebook does it state that a runner must avoid contact.

By the way...what you stated is wrong.

  6. Wow, is it really that hard to get an honest answer around here? Nobody is being conceited, I'm not here slandering anybody or cutting the umpire to shreds. Not lookin to tell my story, just need someone to post a link to an appeal form. That's all. For the last time....can anybody help me out here?

    Thanks

What do you expect? You are an adult (assumption) who is responsible for the instruction, leadership, and well-being of a group of other people's children and you come to a public internet forum (that is in no way affiliated with TSSAA) for guidance on what to do when you have been removed from a game for unsportsmanlike behavior?

Glock is right..your first and only action should have been with your AD, who should know the proper proceedings for this activity.

  7. nope, if a dribble is not in control of his body or if he lowers his shoulder the defender does not have to have his feet set. why they use the term "legal guarding position"

The defender never has to have his feet set. You will not find this phrase in a rule book.

As you mentioned, the phrase "legal guarding position" is the requirement. And a defender may be moving (foward, backward, up and down and still have legal guarding position (ie...a defender may have both feet off the floor, jumping straight up vertically and maintain legal guarding position).

Often you will hear on a charge call "he wasn't set!"...maybe so, but he doesn't have to be.

  8. Section II--By Dribbler

    a. A dribbler shall not (1) charge into an opponent who has established a legal guarding position, or (2) attempt to dribble between two opponents, or (3) attempt to dribble between an opponent and a boundary, where sufficient space is not avail-able for illegal contact to be avoided.

    b. If a defender is able to establish a legal position in the straight line path of the dribbler, the dribbler must avoid contact by changing direction or ending his dribble.

    c. The dribbler must be in control of his body at all times. If illegal contact occurs, the responsibility is on the dribbler.

PENALTY: The offender is assessed an offensive foul. There is no team foul. The ball is awarded to the offended team on the sideline nearest the spot where play was interrupted but no nearer to the baseline than the free throw line extended.

    EXCEPTION: Rule 3--Section I--a.

    d. If a dribbler has sufficient space to have his head and shoulders in advance of his defender, the responsibility for illegal contact is on the defender.

    e. If a dribbler has established a straight line path, a defender may not crowd him out of that path.

PENALTY: The defender shall be assessed a personal foul and a team foul. If the penalty is not in effect, the offended team is awarded the ball on the sideline nearest the spot where play was interrupted but no nearer to the baseline than the free throw line extended. If the penalty is in effect, one free throw attempt plus a penalty free throw attempt is awarded.

Thank you for supporting my statement. Still no mention of "having feet planted" or anything regarding "momentum".

  9. A charge is when the player has both feet planted and has stopped his momentum, or if the the player lowers his shoulder, or extends his arm in a shove. This was not the case in the tourney. The charge calls that were made were not consistent with the rules. It seemed that it was almost an emotional call by the refs. Take Anthony's charge that he got in the finals. (I'm a bolivar fan defending Liberty...) Anthony pulled up for a jumpshot. The east lit kid rose up and went into Anthony. Anthony gets the charge. Then there was the charge that Anthony shoved the kid. Legit call. There were too many calls this past weekend that weren't rewarding "Fundamental Basketball".and if a kid can get a lay-up by going in the air rather than pulling up for a jumpshot, then that's what i would tell my kid to do.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. Please read a rule book and then copy and paste here when you find this statement. Thanks.

  10. Interesting..I would like to have heard the referee's explanation to the coach.

I can also understand giving a little "leeway" considering the circumstances, unless it was something obvious like running around or through the other team.

Also, did you say the coach had to sit for the entire game because of this technical?

  11. I agree. The most redicolous call they made was the technical foul on Jackson county before the game even started. That was about a 4 point difference that Jackson county never really recovered from. Our coach wasn't even allowed to stand up and coach during the game. That referee should be ashamed to make a call that could influence a game before the kids have even taken the court. The call is redicolous. The call was made because our girls came out in two lines instead of one single file line. We have done that every game for years.

I am sure there is more to the story than what you posted here.

I did not see what happenend but is it possible, due to your reference of coming out in 2 lines, that when they entered the court they split into 2 lines around the opposing team's end of the floor? Again, I did not see this but just making an assumtion based on your post.

If they actually did this, it is an automatic technical foul (no judgement).

  12. Congrats to both Eagles and Vikings for an outstanding year thus far. Good luck to both of yall in substate. Now on to my substate prediction for S-Town- Its on their home floor and that is the biggest thing they have on their side in my opinion. It is gonna be the loudest gym in the state, your closed in on a small court, the energy in the barn is unbelievable and ALMOST impossible to snag a win in especially one with the stakes as high as this.

Playing at home is big...but I'd say the biggest thing on their side is that they have a very good basketball team.

  13. As I said, I simply replied to a previous post and clearly stated THE INFORMATION AS I HAVE IT---that means it could be wrong and it could be right and was not said as though it were concrete--I apologize for any confusion. Per what a coach at Summertown told me Bubba as of friday was to be out for 1 week pending so to me that sounds as if he wont be playing tonight--If I am wrong, please someone post updated info on him!!!!

Did you ever consider that maybe a coach "gives out" information that is somewhat less than the truth because they know everything that is said is almost immediately posted on some public forum?

  14. You need to know more about what your talking about before you start publishing information that is incorrect! For one Dill doesn't have a broken bone. Two, its not the same ankle that Clifton turned at Christmas. It makes me sick when somebody gets on a thread somewhere and starts spreading rumors. Get a life! Chris, you say your a big S'town fan, I've got one question for you, how many S'town basketball games have you been to not counting the WC game @ PC this season?

    Amen brother!!!

  15. Ok I've seen you say sane things and somewhat inaccurate things, but if you think #24 is faster than Mercer, Hill, or Tucker you've gone INSANE.

I typically don't agree with much VC has to say here..but in this case I will side with him. He said #24 is quicker, not faster, and that may very well be the case, especially from a defensive point of view.

  16. Let's look at this "discussion" from a different angle...

Assuming that Rice, Rhodes and Clifton were possibly the contenders for MVP...if you remove each of them from their respective teams, which team would be favored to win the district? Or better yet, put these 3 in a 3 team round robin and who comes out on top?

All 3 teams lose their leading scorer but WC and PC lose their biggest scoring threat, and most importantly, the focus of the opposing team's defense. Clifton is very valuable to Summertown but he is not overwhelmingly their leading scorer and is not always the focus of the opposing team's defensive plan. Also, I would guess that Rice and Rhodes have probably led their teams in scoring more times than Clifton has lead Summertown.

Summertown has shown that they can win without Clifton(see victory over WC). WC and PC would struggle to be above average minus Rice and Rhodes.
