  3. After watching some games at the TnT tourn. i think the "Robo-ref" did a pretty good job. considering he was in the 5a final game, he had to have done something right wouldn't you think? grant it he probably did miss a few calls but who doesn't miss calls i mean if referees were 100% perfect they would become spectators, but i give the men and women credit for atleast getting off their butts and trying to better the game with the knowledge they have to referee these young kids. yes he was one of the youngest but he is in the next generation of referees and it doesn't look like anyone else is stepping to the plate because it's easier to call out what the referee did right or wrong but being on the floor and having to listen to parents and coaches wine the whole time takes a lot. and it's good to see that a young person took the challenge of refereeing those games in the tournament. players and coaches are always trying to get better at playing the game, so are officials at refereeing the games, it just takes practice. so atleast "robo-refs" mechanics are down so now he can really focus on officiating on the next level.

"what happend to the game having good sportsmanship and everyone just playing for the love of the game"

I do not think we are talking about the same person. The one I am referring to did not ref the 5A Girls Championship. I thought that both refs did a good job Saturday night. I am talking about a guy who ref'd Tuesday night at The Center. I completely understand that they have to learn somewhere, but I think most people expect a little higher level at Tournament time (especially when it's advertised as a State Tourney). Guess it was hard to evenfind refs after all the re-scheduling and it being District Tournament time as well. I do admire their efforts and I would not want to be in their position.

  4. #15 played sick( by the 4th she was running on very little), #21 got into early foul trouble. The reason they were given for not getting to go was money. The program had just so much money to use. The coach worked real hard to get it where they could go to this tournament. Believe me he told me he wanted to play in both tournaments but things just did not work out. It would have been nice to play some more and maybe see White Co. again. Congrats to them for winning TNT State.

    We are talking girls Right

Thanks for the props!! And congrats on the CTC Championship!! Yes...girls. #15 is the wing (shooter) who started last year?(for Harris) If so, she's gonna be a great player in high school. Plays hard every game. We would have liked to play Harris again also. We played awful the first game of the season against them, but the second and third times it seemed we had improved. We just don't have a consistent shooter. If we bring out that skill in one of our girls we could be much better. Our defense has gotten us where we are right now.

It's hard for Middle School's to have much money for anything other than regular season needs. It's unfortunate. Will most of the Harris girls be playing AAU?

  5. We had ole Robo Ref a couple of times in the tourney and you are exactly right. When he did make a call (which was rarely) he had those mechanics down pat. I wouldn't say he cheated anybody, he was just BAD for both teams. Let the inside players just kill each other but the guards better not breathe or it was a touch foul. A little consistency would have been nice.

You hit the nail on the head!!! That was exactly how our game was called by him. He did have great mechanics. It's my understanding that's what the TSSAA Supervisors are looking for to advance them to a higher level of officiating. Maybe that was his goal for the tournament...trying to get in to high school games. He did not seem to show any favoritism...just a BUNCH of missed calls. I have seen a lot of "Palming the Ball" calls in our conference this year. (Not at TNT). Are other regions/areas seeing a lot more of these calls? (By the way, I am glad to see it called)

  6. Does anyone have a list of all of the TNT All State teams?

I would like to see the list as well...Would it be posted in RC Times next week? I have had trouble following tournament information on that web site, but, then again, there have been so many changes to the schedules due to weather. Does anyone know if they post a listing or if any other local papers do?

  7. James Haile State Tournament. Lost in 2nd round to Ocoee Middle by 4 pts.

Played in Conf. tournament and won it.

Wish we had went to TNT to see more teams but we could not.

Wow...I am suprised Ocoee won. We played both teams. Yes, they are good, but I believe Harris had a much fundamentally stronger team. (Ocoee is a very fast tempo team and very aggressive.) Harris Middle's Coach has really impressed me for the past two years I have seen him. Thanks for the info...I tried to get some info from the James Haile Tourney post...but all I read was a lot of "extracirucullar information" about players and fans. I just wanted basketball. Were there some of Harris's starters out or some other reason they may have lost? Why does Harris not play in TNT?

  8. The best girls team I have seen is Cleveland....I think they lost 1 game all year (to their cross county rival Ocoee) but they also beat Ocoee twice, including the James Haile championship game. They play at breakneck speed, are overly aggressive and have size and depth.

Ocoee is a tough team. Cleveland must be a good team to beat them... Did Cleveland play Harris Middle (Shelbyville) or Meigs County? If so, how close were the games.

  9. :thumb: I'm familiar with Cully's tradition to a degree, but the community support that a middle school team gets depends on the community I'd say. The high school players officiate and run our K-3 league and we have a county wide Jr. Pro league with teams in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Then 2 years of middle school ball before high school. You're just as likely to see the middle school or high school coach at any of those games and there's a summer camp to boot. I think the ones that matter respect the feeder leagues below them.

It's natural to leave a program behind once you've graduated from it and to aspire to the next level. The middle schoolers aren't buying tons of tickets to the Jr. Pro games (unless there's a brother or sister playing) and high school players aren't buying up middle school tickets. The guys that go on to college aren't buying tickets to the high school game either. Usually, the best game in town is the high school game and everything trickles down from there. That's not disrespect. It's just how it is.

You are very lucky to have such good support from your middle school and high school coaches. We have Nothing Even Close where I live. I hope you pat them on the back and tell them how much you do appreciate them. Our administrators haven't even been to one away game this year for our eight grade team, and I have only missed one game all year. If you can't get support from the administrators, you can't expect much more from the coaching staff. It does trickle down. It's unfortunate. Luckily there are some coaches who just make the extra effort, as in your commmunity. Our high school generally has strong teams and will always be the best game in town, as it should. I played 15+ years ago and still attend most high school games. I know it's rare, but I have a lot of ties to our school and I guess everyone else doesn't share my same passion. I also have 5 children (one at every level...elementary, middle school, high school. college. and one at home)...so I get to attend games all over our county for various sports, not just basketball.

Maybe you could let us know the names of your coaches....and we could recruit next year. B) LOL ...Best of Luck to your teams!!!!!

  10. im going to have to disagree with you there when you say, "I guess we shouldn't take any of it too serious. " some of these players live to play basketball, i just don't think any of you realize the amount of passion and determination some of the players out there have.

Trust me...I know how serious it is. It is serious to most people to spend 5-6 days a weeks either practicing or in a game. I was directing the sarcasism at the person who seemed to take "himself and high school basketball" serious and nothing else. For the kids who play at our local school, I want them to think that we as a community take it seriously and we do respect and admire you all for your committment and dedication to sports as well as academics. Middle School should not be compared with the High School level. It is completely different. But it serves a valuable purpose to the basketball community. (As does elementary school, AAU, Junior Pro leagues, etc. ) #10...I admire your passion for the game at your level...keep up the great attitude and don't let ANYONE make you think you don't deserve respect!!! No one is asking for statewide recognition...maybe just a word of encouragement!!! Good Luck Warriorette!!!

  11. this is rediculous....middle schools all get respect from their local community's...these kids arent playing for scholarships so their not going to get statewide attention....i love watchin middle school ball but dont get it out of hand and think these kids should get statewide attention...it gets as much respect as it deserves

i guess you right..."as much repsect as it deserves"...

I love watching it too...I love watching high school and college as well...I guess we shouldn't take any of it too serious.

  12. in my opinion middle school basketball doesent get enough respect...it should because it is importan to these high school programs

I agree. Middle School basketball does not get much repsect. I think a lot of that depends on how the High School programs for each county look at the Middle School programs. If they value it as a feeder program, as it should be, then those schools seem to get more repect. The community notices more when the leaders of basketball in that community pay more attention to the programs.
