  1. Yes. You heard right......and yes, the Perry guy is kin to Roger Perry. He left a couple of years before Roger Perry left Portland and moved to Georgia. He is in his fourth year of Head Coaching in Georgia now. I talked with someone who talked with him. He said that Shad did turn it down, the call was made to him, and Shad changed his mind. Blackman ended up with there first choice, so, no harm done. He is like Roger, very upstanding man, great with kids and, in my opinion, would have done a good job at Blackman.
  2. So what is the talk around G-town about coaching changes?
  3. Interesting tidbit...... The head coach for the Georgia team is going to be Coach Sid Fritts. I have heard that he has had a lot of success in Georgia, but began his career in Tennessee before moving there. Even more to chew on, another coach on the staff with Coach Fritts is Coach Chad Perry. I am not sure where he is now, but he took a head coaching job last year in Georgia after being an assistant down there for two years. He is from TN too. I just thought it was ironic for two of the coaches coaching the GA all-star team were originally from TN!
  4. Coachfoozeball......that is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever read.....as I stated earlier, this is a great job and should not just be passed off to "someone on staff" or perhaps that would have been done before now, but not to who has it now????? Bottomline, they did what they should have done and opened it up and interviewed good quality candidates! Now, the process has been followed, a hire has been made, and now the support needs to come.
  5. Maybe they are embarassed......there has been plenty of time for the people to know.
  6. I have a question......but first, I have a comment. I cannot believe that this board and the PHS fan base have been so silent....I mean, c'mon people, this is Portland! One of the winningest teams in the state, raised the bar in the county, etc. You would think there would be a little more talk and concern from the true fans that care about football there. There is no other sport that has Portland on the map!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now to the question: Because of the closed-lip approach, I can only assume that one of two things are going on. One.....there is a "great" candidate that will be named and no one knows who he is, but will be delighted to hear it once announced, or Two........the people have stepped back and taken a "not care" approach and are going to allow a "committee" to hire some non-qualified or good-ole boy deal and let them run the program in the ground! Which is it?
  7. Everyone seems to be about "rumors" on here so I will start my post the same way. Rumor has it that interviews are complete, a few days will be used to ananlyze the information gathered in the interviews, and then decisions will be made. "Rumor has it" that Perry withdrew his name......no details as to why, and this is truly a rumor. I think the Mark Wilson thing never was much to that, and there are some candidates that no one knows. So it will be interesting. It needs to be done, someone needs to be there with the kids NOW, and Portland needs to continue with the winning tradition that has been put in place. Word of advice: Whoever it is, give them a chance, he will be working with a young team as the second or third smallest team in the region, and playing in a tough region. Chances are that he will have a youthful staff as well.
