  1. QUOTE(Hoganknows @ Apr 13 2007 - 05:38 AM) 826436453[/snapback]Sounds like rain is going to take care of the tourney--but only wanted to add that Page as of 8:00 PM Thursday night was thinking about pulling out. The night before the tourney begins!

Injury and ACT was going to be the reason--well at least I can sleep well at night. Good Luck to all teams that are playing this weekend--but looks like rain will be the real Winner.

What has happened to Page?Tthey looked good early, when I saw them play earlier in the year, I heard some girls quit and I also heard they had some injuruies. Where is the new coach from, I don't think he teaches at PHS?

  2. Congrats to Coach Whitefield, next year Fairview should be a lot better than they were this year. Lots of experienced players coming back and a good schedule. Things should be good for a while, Coach Whitfield is a good guy but my prediction is that he will do like all of the other coaches at Fairview and move on after a little success. I hope not, but just look at recent events.

  3. Joe Pa of Penn St. did a heck of a job coaching from the coach/press box in the last bowl game against UT. The cameras kept focusing on him. He didn't have to do a thing but sit and snore. This shows some football programs can execute without the head coach doing anything. I can’t see this happening on the high school level. :P

    Donathan

I realize you are talking about Franklin's coach, calling plays from the pressbox. But the more I think about it, yes it is unusual but then again what's wrong with it. If he feels he can get a better view and do a better job then fine. Looking at the FHS website, he has Donnie Webb, Marshall Winkler, Ken Curtis, Howard Gamble, I guess the youngest would be kurt Jones, all of these guys have a lot of experience coaching football. I think this shows he has confidence in his assistants. Donathan your coach had confidence in you and you'll have another head coach soon. Keep up the good work!

  4. If they go after a "Name" HC that is one thing. If they choose another team's assistant coach then they are clueless. If all anyone ever hired was coaches with HC experience then no one would get hired. I don't think Rector was a HC before he was promoted at Ravenwood. They need to make the best choice and get it done so the players can put this behind them. This is funny that someone from Centennial is giving someone advice about hiring a HC... :)

You have a good example of a coach with no high school head coaching experience leading not only your athletic department but also coaching the boys basketball team and a very good girls basketball coach that had no experience.

  5. If an assistant coach besides Eubanks is hired then the decision makers have made another terrible decision. They talk about integrity, morals and standards, but then they don't demonstrate that in decisions they make. And I am not just talking athletically. Believe what you want but Eubanks was the glue that held the team together. Power is the wrong term to use. He has the respect of players, parents and peers. No, he has not been a HS HC before, but it is time. Where does it say you have to have been a HC in HS before? Sometimes that is over rated. Come on IHS, do the right thing and give him the HC job.

I agree with you it would be the right thing, I hope Eubanks gets the job. But look at who's making the decisions, if you think Webb is losing sleep over who the next football coach is at Indy who're crazy. I would hate to see Eubanks get passed over by Indy and be too late for the Fairview job. If he doesn't get the Indy job now, I don't think he will ever get it.

  6. You're referring to coach Richard Herzog, whose name was surprisingly dropped by Marilyn in today's Williamson A.M.

Herzog was also believed by some to be a finalist for the Centennial job before it was given to Matykiewicz.

Jason Eubanks is obviously the favorite for the job by both the players and community. However, there are a few things that I think hurt him 1. No head coaching experience, 2) He has no experience on the offensive side of the ball( please do not mention middle school football, that does not compare), 3) Webb does not care about the percieved power, many of you have posted that Eubanks has in the community. He has no power, he simply has the respect of the community for the job he has done. Webb cares about academics not athletics, if she could find a common balance between the two you would not be looking for annother coach. I am pulling for Eubanks but I cannot help but feel that Webb will go with someone else. I would like see Nowell as OC at INdy if Eubanks gets the job. If Eubanks cannot get this job I would like to see hime leave Indy for the Fairview job to get some head coaching experience. By the way. the article about Herzogg in the paper Sunday, did not sit well with alot of people, many thought it was very inappropriate and could ultimately hurt his chances.

Old "Mr. Rumor" has a lot of thoughts. I doubt very seriously that anyone in a capacity to make a change at Brentwood, is telling people that they are going to make a change. Most schools go through a cycle of talent after another school opens in the area and takes some of their enrollment. It took Coach King a long time to get the program going when he began, and he got out at the time that the talent was falling. Franklin went through a lull when Centennial first opened, but they have recovered nicely. Brentwood will eventually recover, but their talent is not overwhelming right now. Maybe some of the parents or fans would like a change, but I find it hard to believe that Coach Hatley isn't doing O.K.

Brentwood will not change coaches as long as next season, Coach Hatley is one of the sports good guys. You need to realize your tallent level has been down since Ravenwood was built so it's going to be a while before you have a 20 win season again. Dennis King is not stupid he could see what was on the horizon, Coach Hatley could also see that Independence was on the horizon , so he chose the view from Brentwood instead of Page. Do you blame him?

  8. It just goes to show you that '07 doesn't really know ALL! You are right - Finney was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator and Kelly coached. Those are the only open spots of "on staff" coaches. :thumb:

Actually, once a new head coach is hired all positions are open. A head coach is not obligated to retain assistant coaches. The new coach could have coaches that actually teach at other schools and travel to CHS after school.

  9.

I hear Jackie Bennett, former head coach at Page, may come out of retirement and go to CHS.

That would be " The Bear" -

Centennial better hire a coach quickly, most coaches would be more interested in Independence because of the feeder system the biggest drawback will be the principal due to her lack of support for athletics.

  10. Gates shouldget the job.

Eubanks would be the obvious choice, if Webb hires from within the current staff. Gates is not even an option, no explanation needed. After all of the coaching changes this year, I believe Crawford (Brentwood) has the longest tenure in the county with four years, then Rector(Ravenwood) and Matakavich(Fairview) I think 3 years, and Clayton (Franklin) two years. As Williamson County continues to de-emphasize the importance of athletics within a school, this rate of coaching changes( not just in football but other sports as well) will continue.

  11. Word is that the principal at CHS just called the HC at LHS to see if he wanted to interview for the job. Sounds like CHS has no clue what they are going to do!

Be patient!!They will annnounce D. Nowell as the coach very soon, some kinks have to be worked out first.

  12. Thanks muffin and wingman10. It will tough against Marshall Co. in Lewisburg on Friday night, but if we can bring our "A" game, I think we can pick up another W. Our outside shooting will have to be good to match their three point shooting of McKenna Moffett and Jessica McQueen and hopefully we can stop the inside play of Lauren March.

Hang in there Pageman!!!!Like you have said before cut down on your turnovers and match them with the 3 ball - this group is probably the least talented I have seen in a long time, but they play hard.

  13. And I assume you know why Heath might balk at the opportunity. I can assure you that I do. If you really know the reason, I can't imagine why you think HH would be "perfect".

HH days of coaching in Wilco are long gone!

New zone lines should be made public next month. Page may get as many as 250 new students the next year.

  14. As much as I want Johnson to come here, you almost have to wonder how long he'll be at CHS. 1 losing season and maybe he'll start to consider going somewhere else, (maybe BA if Flatt decides to retire). I think a move like this would certainly ruin his reputation. However, maybe rebuilding Centennial will present a challenge he is willing to try. Also, talk has really started to pick up about one of the Brentwood guys too.

Jack Daniels to Page High was a done deal in August, Tim Brown the vice principal at Page has used to be at BHS. Small World.

  15. What hatred does Johnson have towards the Franklin staff? Johnson left and lost, what's there to be mad about? The only people that should be mad are the ones that Johnson convinced to go assist him at Giles County.Heleft them hung out to dry, except Nowell. I hope Johnson returns, it adds even more excitement to a great Region.

  16. I know its early but there will be several coaching swaps, when the season ends.

    Any prdictions?????????????

    Franklin - Clayton -staying

    Brentwood - Crawford staying

    Indepence - Scott Smith staying/going - has built a very good program/Sylvester

Fairview - Matykiewicz - great job - staying-best kept secret in Williamson County

Centennial - Greg Gregory -no way he can stay ----Jack Daniels/Scott Smith/Tim Johnson/Matacavich/Scott Blade/Donnie Webb

Page - Jack Daniels- young team of sophomores

Ravenwood - Rector -staying - great coach

    BGA - staying/going

    BA - FLatt retiring?????

Just some random thoughts on a cold day!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Thats not a rumor about the quarterback getting caught stealing food from the lunch line. I dont know what they are going to do to him. I heard he was suspended, but they still might let him play cause they want to win so much. :thumb:

    Is this really true?

Is so should he sit out this game or is this one of those times where a coach does not want to punish the team so he'll be punished on Monday. If he actually did steal, then the school administrators will have to handle this not the coach. Should be interesting.... good luck Eagles!!!!!!!

  18. Harpeth used to be the team to beat, I think they won several regions a few years ago before they started blaming coaches now you need to realize it ain't the coaching, t ain't the private schools - you are just not very good. Donjh't worry though Fairview is not as good as they thought they were, just ask Goodpasture.

  19. The school doesn't buy benches for the football field. The booster club buys all of this type of equipment. They just purchased the 2 for the home sidelines. There is nothing that says there have to be benches on the sidelines. They are pretty expensive and probably be something on next years agenda.

I am just asking, not trying to get anything started but if you have two benches on one sideline why not have a home bench and a visiting team bench. That makes sense to me considering it looked like IHS for a school that's a few years old had everything else that ever other school has. The IHS stadium is pretty awesoome, but it's sad when you can't afford a bench for the visiting team especially considering how many sponsors were named during every timeout. I'll check at Centennial next week and see if they have benches and then I'll check at Franklin in two weeks. Has this happened all year or did this just start recently?
