How illogical is that? Of course the Patriots know they can lose(hence their 2 losses.) But they expect to win. They head into games knowing that they can win every game if they make the plays they're capable of making and have the right focused mind-set. An essential element in sports called pride. "Confidence" surrounds this team because they have the willingness to work hard in getting the job done. "Arrogance" would be if they felt they just needed to show up to get the W. Can never have too much confidence.

Great post....my point exactly in speaking of the "lob-sided" rivalry. I'm not saying West should bend over backwards for Jeff. Anyone will tell you West is a scrappy bunch who can beat quality teams. But think a little unbyist and admit that top to bottom, jefferson county looks to be the superior when comparing the two.

Shew, more and more ammunition every time I get on this sight. The Joeyless Patriots will roll over West Monday night in a battle of a lob-sided "rivalry" over the past three seasons.

Simple math. Joey Belcher .571. Dallas Crouch .447....... .571>.447. (">" means "greater than".) Get your facts straight before you talk. Anyway, Jeff came outta the gates slowly, handing central its initial seven runs. Real proud of the Pats though. Enduring a 10-4 deficit in the 7th inning pouring rain, they battled back to contribute five, just short of tying the game. Showed miles of heart. Defense will pick up Monday and bust the Trojans.

1)Jeff Co.-- could/should go undefeated in the conference. 2)East-- played some quality teams tough and can stick it. 3)West -- solid talent, but don't have the playmakers. 4)Greeneville -- dissapointing year for the Devils. Should be good in '07. I think there are two other teams, too..

I give East a lot of credit. They're second in team batting average in the prep-extra newspaper, after playing some quality teams closely. They've got a couple good hurlers as well. Marshall can definitely shut down offenses on a consistent basis.

Okay, my bad. Let me change my post. 'West, East, and Jeff are all very good quality teams who all can beat each other on any given night. It's a shame that only one of these teams can be crowned victorious at year's end'......Get real. It's not little league anymore. 'Us against the world' is the mentality one must have to win, not ra!ra! everybody wins!...ask D-B, ask Halls.

Go ahead and keep fueling the fire, sports writer. Jeff. Co. has not rested since its one and only loss. The game was worse than a fluke, it was a mistake. I'd love for West fans to appear at the game. Stands full of visiting silence makes for the greatest of sounds. East is good, props for the comment. West is good as well...but the Patriots have already decided that this year they won't settle for "good." Strike 3!!........just a little preview of monday night.

Will Brummett of Jefferson County works as hard as anybody. He's got the crudentials as well; good speed, good arm, good bat speed. If his body can develop, he'll dominate this game because he has the x-factor, work ethic.

I guess the moment of truth will come Monday. Can't wait.

True. The Kingsport Tourney features plenty of quality teams including Gate City, Happy Valley, Dobyns-Bennett and some others. Agree about cocke. Seymour, however, is no slouch. They've got a solid line-up and a very capable pitching staff and have beaten a few good ball clubs right out of the gate.

The Patriots opened conference play Monday night with a 4 1/2-inning 11-0 shellacking of Cocke County to extend its record to 6-1. They're really hitting on all cylinders and look to be one of the premiere teams in the area. How do you think they match up against the state's elite?

Not exactly. I think Science Hill won it last year and that didn't help anyone from our region to get past Knoxville.

Jefferson County should return to its throne Monday April 3rd as it faces off against Mo. West. The Trojans came away with the win in Round 1 vs. the Pats in a very sloppy effort by the latter. West took advantage of some costly miscues by JC, scrapping their way to a 6-1 victory. West is a relentless, well-coached bunch, but JC has too much talent and should win this rivalry 8 or 9 times out of 10.

Well, I'm glad there's no pressure put on the kid. My goodness. Some people don't react as well to the professional environment as they do high school or college. Very very bold statement.

Gibbs beat Jeff County 6-2 in a scrimmage but when it counted Jeff County run ruled Gibbs with Housewright pitching 11-3 last week. Scrimmages mean nothing except an opportunity to evaluate players and line-ups.
