  1. I have no comment on the game at this time. As many of the JCM faithful know, longtime supporters Mike and Pam McCarty lost their daughter, Morgan, this past weekend in Knoxville where she was a student at UT. She was the victim of a hit-and-run accident. My family and the McCarty's are old friends, Pam taught 2 of my kids at Pope. Morgan was a cheerleader at JCM and her brother, Kirk, played in the late 90's and early 00's. Morgan's funeral will be on Friday @ 3:00 at 1st Methodist Church. Please give me a couple of days and I may feel like getting back into the football scene. May God be with the McCarty family at this time.

  2. Humboldt Vikings went 2-8 last year and are off to a 4-0 start this year w/ the same schedule as last year...Adrian Donald already has 10 rushing tds and over 600 yards rushing thus far...check out the comparison btw last year and this year...

This year...Humboldt over Liberty 10-7 Last year..Liberty over Humboldt 34-14

Humboldt over Dresden 20-14 Dresden over Humboldt 42-34

Humboldt over Lexington 46-6 Lexington over Humboldt 35-20

Humboldt over Trenton 21-20 Trenton over Humboldt 18-14

Hard to make a bigger turn around than that...Without question, they're one of the most improved teams in the state...It will be interesting to see how they do tonight with all the distractions of homecoming against 4A Jackson-Northside and how the finish in the second half of the season

True, but they are now 4 - 1....GO INDIANS!!!!!!!

  3. I read this morning the starting QB Johnsey for Liberty is out. Has he been out very long? THe paper said his backup is pretty good, a threat to run or pass. The paper says he is a playmaker, so was he playing another position and now QB?

Any of you other Jackson folks know, because I don't think Liberty talks FB?

Evan Johnsey has not started all year, I don't even think he has taken a snap due to a back injury. The guy who is QB for Liberty has been starting all year - so he has been gaining experience. Johnsey was also their kicker and punter, so look to exploit their special teams.

Does the weather change HC's game plan in any way? I think it may give Liberty some advantage because I don't think they have much of a passing game. New QB is supposively quick and a scrambler. But I don't think they can beat you regardless.

  4. In honor of the YANKER's father, I will predict JCM...even though my head tell me otherwise also. I hope your father gets better soon.

For the HC faithful...I don't think many Liberty fans are posting these days. I hope that doesn't mean they are turning their backs on football and turning into a boys basketball school only, they don't need to turn away from their football program.

I just helped my youngest strap his pads on for practice. I'm graduating one Indian, but I have a future one still in the house.

  5. Nothing about food. Jackson Sun article. They opened where Applebees used to be. Locally owned (same owner as Gunther Toodys). Live jazz and blues music. Beef, chicken, fish, pasta, etc. Ribs and Blues and a cold beverage my version of a out of town tailgate meal! Gets me ready to watch the game. The manager ran the Blues City Cafe on Beale Street for 15 years. I plan to go, if not Friday then next trip to Jackson.

Maybe Yanker will pay the tab!!

I heard Redbones was a great place to eat, but kinda expensive. It may not be the thing to do on a Friday night if you don't leave yourself enough time...sometimes its hard to get out of a restaurant thats just opened on time. So get there early HC fans, enjoy, and leave your tax $$$ in Jackson.

  6. Only thing moving is the clock because this post is quiet. Nobody from Jackson or HC are talking.

It has given me time to catchup on the General Football posts. Some good ones.

Liked the ones about whether it is legal for Noise Makers and/or bands to play during snaps. The band situation about playing is interesting.

I know, I started the band post because I just wanted to know if it is still a rule and I get yelled at and called a baby. I really thought that by now that post would be buried on page 2 or 3, but it keeps coming up.

  7. If the truth be known JCM is pretty much a 3A team right now. JCM`s enrollment has dropped (per TSSAA`s count from last year) to 835 students whille Southside is not far behind at 805. Liberty meanwhile is up to 1007 kids. They will be in 4A next year because their enrollment had more than a 20% jump. JCM meanwhile almost got moved into 3A next year. They had an 18.6% drop. Another 1.4% drop would have put JCM into 3A next year.

Unless the Madison County School Board does some more rezoning in the next year or so it is likely that JCM will be in 3A after the next 2 years.

Northside`s numbers increased almost 6% to 1044 kids. So right now Northside is the biggest public school in Jackson. The way it is headed JCM may soon be the smallest (excluding Madison Academic).

This is true. So if we return to the topic this would cause the HC - Liberty game to be a indication of the future, since Liberty may be joining the region.

  8. The opening of Liberty caused problems for both JCM and North Side. JCM's program was much better at absorbing this than ours. I think that the majority of the seniors Liberty graduated from their team last year were previously in North Side's zone. We had a great freshman class one year and the next year about half or more had been zoned for Liberty. Evan Johnsey also lives in what used to be North Side zone. Just think what kind of team J-MC schools would have if we had one county high school like HC does...not only with the powerful team but also with the fan and community support. Evan Johnsey, the QB and kicker for Liberty is a senior and has been hurt. To my knowledge he has not taken a snap yet in a game and I don't think he is expected to. He has had major back problems and many days cannot even stand up straight according to a Liberty player friend of my sons. This has caused much of their decline - having to replace the QB position right before the start of the season. But they did have a good showing against Huntingdon, so I would not take them lightly.

  9. The reason I started this post was to enable me to better educate the fans at our ballgames. This was addressed in a booster club meeting in the past with the coach who said he believes it is no longer a rule. Plus, he added that it should be a nonfactor in the game, which I agree with. But since, we have fans who still want to complain about this situation. Our PA announcer has even asked the visiting band not to play while the ball is in play, stating that it is a TSSAA rule. I was just trying to find out if it is infact still a rule and the penalty so we could be better informed. Thank you.

  10. I cannot believe this! You and many others on here talking about how the band shouldn't play during play. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Unsportsmanlike? Classless? Seriously, it's football!!! Everyone knows the band plays when the other team has the ball. Someone said it right, it's part of the 12th man. Maybe we should tell anyone if they yell, that their team will be penalized. That is the beauty of a high school football game; packed stands with the crowd really getting into it, two very good bands battling for their team, two teams playing in a close hard fought game, etc. Period, that makes for a great high school football game. The problem is some schools don't take pride in their music department and their own schools' band don't contribute as the 12th man. Those schools that have lots of band members and that are good, should pride themselves on being able to help their team. And don't say that the bigger schools are the only one with good bands. "and the band plays on!" I like that. :P:D

This is a rules post...you did not address the point of the post. Plus, I didn't say that the bigger schools were the only one with good bands...if you comprehended what you read you would realize this.

  11. rule 9 section 9 art. 1...a player or nonplayer or person not subject to the rules shall not hinder play by an unfair act which has no specific rule coverage.

penalty: the referee enforces any penalty he considers equitable

that could cover it but no official worth his salt would ever call anything like that, in other words, like the song says, " and the band played on...."

the most extreme case would be that an official would say something to the head coach to have him put an end to it, and if he didn't or couldn't or was being a butt about it , the ref would probably hit him with an unsportsmanlike 15 yarder . now you have a lot of attention being paid to off the field happenings instead of what's happening on the field.

If this is the case, enforcing the rule would make the ref look biased and so basically it is a 'non-rule'. I just thought there was a rule that dealt with band playing specificly, but I guess not. To be honest, in some places the PA announcer is worses than the band.

  12. Hey VG, how good do you think Southside is? Since that is who is up next...

    [/quot

Don't mean to but in, but there is a JCM vs SS thread on the 3A board if you are interested. But I know you want VG's opinion as well, just thought you might want to see the post.

  13. Its called the 12th man! Thats home field advantange and should be part of the game. Go to a TN football game while TN is on defense that place is LOUD. That doesn't mean TN shows bad sportsman ship. Thats part of the game. Similar situation happened at Ooltewah 2 years ago when Farragut came to town. We had a "band warning" for playing while Farragut had the ball... I think thats stupid. Thats what home field advantage is. TSSAA better have changed that rule...

It's not home field advantage. Any band can do it, we have had it done by the visiting band. When you are playing 4A and 5A ball, you can be talking about some pretty big bands that can make an impact. But yes, I also know that Union City and other smaller schools have large bands also.

  14. No argument here about it being bad sportsmanship or the fact that the offensive players should be focused and play through it. But the question still is...is it still a rule or not? Our coach thinks the TSSAA removed the rule, but isn't sure. How can I find out?

If this is still the rule, can and should TSSAA officials direst the umpires to call the penalty? Do they have any authority over this?

  15. JCM'S DEFENSE IS OUTSTANDING. I TALKED TO ONE OF THE COACHES AT MUNFORD AND THE PLAN WAS TO RUN AWAY FROM #5 ALL NIGHT AND IT WORKED. THE TOUGH PART IS #27. MUNFORD USED THE BIG FULLBACK TO POUND ON HIM ALL NIGHT TO KEEP HIM INSIDE AND ALLOW SOME ROOM OUTSIDE FOR THE TAILBACK. YANKER HOPE YOU WERE IN MUNFORD IT WAS A GREAT GAME JCM HAS A GREAT TEAM BUT THEY RAN INTO A MUNFORD TEAM THAT HAS SOME TALENT, A GREAT COACHING STAFF, AND AS THE PLAYERS BUY INTO THE PROGRAM MORE AND MORE I THINK THIS TEAM CAN GET BETTER WEEK BY WEEK. YOU GOT TO UNDERSTAND MUNFORD HAS BEEN DOWN SO LONG WE HAVE GOT TO LEARN HOW TO WIN AND I THINK WE TOOK A BIG STEP IN THAT DIRECTION TONIGHT. OUR TWO LOSSES WERE GAMES THAT WE COULD HAVE WON. EVEN RIPLEY. CLOSE IN THE FIRST HALF AND OUR BOYS JUST DIDN'T CARRY THE SAME FIRE IN THE SECOND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS TO BE LEARNED. WE GOT TO LEARN HOW TO WIN THE TOUGH ONES. TONIGHT WAS A BIG ONE.

No doubt that Munford played a great game and congrats on a big win. Sounds like a good game plan to me that kept the JCM linebackers at bay. Did #27 pull a hamstring or get injured that you saw?

  16. I have heard Hogsett pulled a hamstring, but I know he continued to play. Its a little tough to go on one wheel. Also last I checked there are ten other players on the field. Just because Munford ran it down there throats, I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions about the linebacker play. Forget he is "suppose to be one of the best in the state" he IS one of the best in the state.I have seen alot of high school d1 talent and Hogsett is as good as any period in my humble opinion.

He very well could be one of the best of the state, but he is not JCM's only linebacker - unless they are playing some new defense I don't know about. If he indeed pulled a hamstring then tuff luck, but showed lots of character trying to keep going. I was asking about the whole linebacking crew for JCM, which is suppose to be one of the best in the state. What schools are looking at Hogsett?
