  1. saw HB play sat night. I will say this when you play a team that is as bad as halls it would make any fan think his team is so deep!!!!. HB got about 6-7 players that could play if they see Manassas. those 6-7 can play now!! but Manassas is much deeper!!!!

Great job for coming to the wrong game genius...I was also there and 3 of our players didn't dress out who play. The kids who came in the 4th are all freshmen and only one of them gets playing time. Come to Lake Co. whenever we play them and you'll see both team's best players and depth.

  2. Humboldt beat Halls tonight 85-42...we started off with the press as always and went up 12-4 in the first minute or two and then we fell back to man...we brought in our 2nd string during the middle of the first but the 2nd string couldn't get it going. Halls cut it to an 8-10 point ball game in the beginning of the 2nd so Coach B put back in the starters. The starters and normal subs played out through the first half and started the 2nd half, then the 2nd string came back in and finally started clicking. 3rd string came in midway through the 4th and finished out the game on a 12-2 run. Coach B dressed out 6-7 freshmen during this game and the entire 3rd string he put in at the end were freshmen.

  3. It may take playing back-to-back-to-back days to win a state championship. The state tournaments are against better teams as well. red, excuses are going to do nothing but hurt you with that argument. I'm sure your boys will have no problem playing 3 days back to back, you just might have to do it in order to win a state championship.

We won't have a problem at ALL and i'm the least worried about this! Trust me, our bench players will get plenty of playing time.

  4. I will say his defense is the best part of his game. Yes, I know he's averaging 18 points/game, but he is 6'8"! That means that all he has to do is back down into the post, turn around from 3 feet and throw it at the goal. If he misses then he is able to get is own rebound because of his size, and put it back. I will go on to agree with you Legend that he is a best on the defensive end down low, but outside of the post he's not that great of a defender. If he had the athletic ability to guard PG's and SG's out on the perimeter, then I would definitely say that he is the best defender, that I know of, in TN history.

  5. Humboldt 87

    Lake Co. 69

I expect more of the same looks from Lake Co. as last game on both ends of the floor just because they cannot take the risk of letting Avery get away from the basket. Avery is going to play the entire game again, and so will there PG Tyler. Bigster had made a comment earlier saying that they put in the big white guy a few games back, which he's been on their team for a while now and never got much playing time. If they throw him in there to help with size, it may help, but since he hasn't played much then I expect him to get in foul trouble early. I hate to say it, but Humboldt will start off in the press. It is our #1 defense! Yes, Lake Co. got a bunch of easy baskets last game from it, but Humboldt looked so lazy getting back after the press had been broken. This is going to be a statement game for both teams, but Humboldt comes out on top.

  6. 92-31 final Humboldt. I don't know what the stats were, but I was also told that Charles hurt himself during the game. He came down on his elbow, but the our trainer said that there's nothing wrong with it. Charles said that it is just sore. He's probably not going to start Friday night against Halls, which he may not even play because we probably won't need him especially with Lake Co. coming up next week.

  7. If we could have a mini tourney with the top 8 teams who do you all think would take it all??? 1 vs 8 seed 2 vs 7 format...

    First Round:

#1 Humboldt vs. #8 Henry Co.

    #2 Dyer Co. vs. #7 Central-Merry

    #3 Bolivar vs. #6 Northside

#4 Liberty vs. #5 Lake Co.

-If this tournament was to exist, it would have to be held in Oman Arena because there is no other gym around here that would hold all of the people that would come to the games. There would also be tons of college scouts at the games, too.

I'm not sure who would win though because I've only seen Humboldt and Lake Co. play.

  8. Never seen this before; but, I have to question the ruling. I believe you have to count the basket for team A (fouling team) and give the ball to team B (shooting team) at the spot of the foul. If team B is in the bonus, we would go to the other end and shoot those freethrows. Other than a player control, team control foul, and correctable errors, anytime someone throws the ball in the basket in an act of shooting, points have to be scored.

I agree with you on the ruling.

  9. Taylor and Crayton are both better that Avery

Both are fast and Taylor is very intimidating

Both can jump higher than Avery

    Both are taller than Avery

Both can handle the ball and run point

Both can take anyone one on one to the basket and make a play at will

Both can lead a team or carry a team to a victory

    Avery disappeared agianst Humboldt

Avery is taller than Tevin, but not Charles.

  10. Lake County's only chance to win will be playing zone

I dont think Avery can stay with Taylor or Crayton

For the first time all year I saw Taylor really take a game into hands last night against a mediocre GC team

Plus if they put Avery on one of them he will definately get gassed

Both of them move around alot

Avery looked a little awkward on the perimeter offensively also

And that other big guy is too clumsy to play with Humboldt's talent

Humboldt wins a close one 97-83, just too many quality legs on the bench

I don't even think zone will work...

  11. I am friends with EJ and talk to him through texting and whenever he comes home. He red-shirted because of injuries and he was not going to get much playing time this past season because he was 3rd string TE. EJ is a great friend, person, and competitor. Now, back to basketball, this topic is for UC and Humboldt. The next time we'll meet up will be in District. Talk about that.

  12. Probably going to be too hard for anyone to beat out Buckner for Mr.Basketball..As for the district..Crayton could be voted the MVP because Humboldt is undefeated but that could change if Lake Co wins the next game against Humboldt..Another thing is Charles Taylor has Tevin Crayton..Tevin Crayton has Charles Taylor..Crayton and Taylor or even Dunbar can double team or help each other out down low..Avery doesn't have that luxury..Russel Avery is the BEST player in District 14A

I disagree. Avery is the best player @ Lake Co, not the District.

  13. Tevin and Charles are simply stating that it is their goal to win state this year. If Humboldt doesn't win state, then this year is a failure. Everyone is just reading too much into it. These 2 players are the leaders of this team and plan on leading them to a State Championship. No one wants to hear their leader say that they "hope they win." I'd rather hear my captain tell me that we are going to go and win the State Championship and nothing less is acceptable. I'm sure that the rest of the state has the exact same goals, but they have not been quoted in a newspaper saying that or posted on a chat board.

"Attitude reflects leadership, captain." -Julius Campbell (Remember the Titans)

  14. I don't mean any harm but uc is not down just wait you will see many faces in a fraud when uc play their best basketball don't u remember uc losing 9 games in 2006 and still won state uc making a challenge of themselves you see that they played humboldt down to the wire but just couldnt quite get the over the back calls because the game was played in the boldt but wait till they meet in district when they play on a neutral floor it will be much different and lc also has an loss coming their way only one freethrow away from winning the game in the 4th quarter dont matter if russell was in foul trouble or not thats part of the game when you foul you eventually foul to much and foul out.....

Will you please come down from that cloud you are smoking on and join us. The 2006 UC team had Weddle, X, and MJ Brown. I'm glad that you are a great UC fan, but you have to be realistic about some things. Bringing up the past does not help your case at all, because of the fact that those 3 players above were legit. I understand that UC has played LC close twice, and lost to Humboldt by 13 this past game, but don't get so overhyped about a team that is young and mediocre. UC has many great years to come, but for right now, this is not the year. I will agree with you on that UC can upset one of us, but us or LC would have to have a bad night. This is a Humboldt vs. Lake Co. thread though, so bring this up under the District 14A topic.

  15. Your post makes more sense than redgold's and red's..that Humboldt wasn't going to press..I believe Humboldt is going to keep playing like they have ..and like you said..if the press is getting beat..try to hurry and get back..Thing is..Lake co should have Avery on the back of the press instead of Hockett and Avery will be able to get someone at the back in foul trouble..I don't believe Avery will get 30 against Humboldt..Because like you said..If he gets by 1 tall player..will have another player coming over to help..I look for Avery to shoot a lot more outside this game..!

I hope Avery does get to play outside some because I want to see what he is like with the ball. It is hard for Whitby to allow him to do that against Humboldt though because he's basically the only one that can rebound against Humboldt's bigs.

  16. Bigster, here it is:

-Humboldt's starters will be Quan, Rashad, Charles, Tevin, Dunbar. Bench players will be Guards: Joseph Gordon, Antonio Brooks, and Quentin Jennings. Post Players: Deandre Perry and Jarvis Porter.

-Humboldt WILL press. I'm sure Coach B and the team went back and watched the film from the last game, and we realize now how fast your guards are. You will NOT get those easy 3 on 1 buckets as many times as you did last game. If you happen to break the press easily, then we will probably drop back to 1/2 court trap.

-If you really think that Avery will score 30 points against us, think again. If you try to pick and roll with him, there will be another big man to step in front of him.

-Humboldt will probably run the pick and roll again with Tevin and Charles, which worked tremendously against UC. Yes, Avery or a double team will be waiting in the lane, but that will lead to a kick out for 3 or they will try to draw contact. I'm sure Avery will get a few blocks in this game, and it won't surprise me either because I think defense is the best part of his game.

-Oh, and yea......I pick Humboldt to win 78-63
