  1. You mean the Richland team that would never drive the ball into the paint and settle for 3's??? Ok....
  2. I do not need to be lectured on my opinion of what I think a "hot" team is. I will give credit where credit is due, and yes LC does deserve it for those wins. Everyone has their own opinion for what they think a "hot" team is. I take into consideration the scores and W/L's...not just the W/L's @Tiger...I am a proud Humboldt alum, and nowhere close to being a Golden Tornado
  3. How are they a hot team?? Barely winning today and going into OT in the first round??...i have seen Humboldt and lake Co play twice this year and was not impressed by lake Co at all. Go ahead and try playing you're box and 1 on desonta again tomorrow. Once again it will not work
  4. whoop whoop!! vikings are moving on! 65-47 final
  5. Might as well go ahead and get this thing started According to Coacht rankings, this is the #1 and #5 teams in the state playing each other. What style of play is Mt. Pleasant bringing to the game Thursday night? I have seen Humboldt play a few times this year and it is the same style of play as we have always played.
  6. I am originally from West TN (Humboldt) and I am in my last year at MTSU, but tonight was the first night that I actually got to make it to one of the high school games up here. This was a great game! I really thought that Oakland was going to run away with this game in the first half since they had the momentum at HOME, but Blackman's defense did a great job of getting pressure on the QB in the 2nd half. Whoever #4 is for Blackman is a great player! After seeing Oakland's QB scramble for great yardage in the first half, I was surprised that I didn't see him more in the 2nd half. Congrats to Blackman on the win, and thanks for the entertainment tonight (especially with the rock band). For Oakland, the only thing that was lost during this game was the undefeated season. A lot should be taken from this game and evaluated to where you can close out the season strong and make a deep run in the playoffs.
  7. So, you are telling me this backfield is better than the one of Keith Wardlow and Adrian Donald? (both of them had speed and strength) I know it can't be better than the backfield from the 04-05 season with Justin Thompson (Puppy #25), Octavious Lawrence (Ta-Bo #4), Adrian Donald (#20), with Keith Wardlow (#30) coming off of the bench; the players' sizes that year were outrageous, but we were upset early in the playoffs. I might agree with you on the quickness part, because the team of 06-07 had some large boys and were able to shove people around pretty easily. Humboldt's defense that year was great too, especially with Josh Hawks as a lock-down corner, and we finished with 4 All-State players. I'm glad to see that Humboldt is back to winning some games, although the last time a Humboldt team was this hyped up, they went 5-5 (07-08 season). Good luck Vikings!
  8. I haven't been able to see Humboldt play this year, but from everything that I am hearing sound very good. I have been told that this year's team is going to be just as good as the 2006-2007 Vikings team.
  9. Sorry, it's been a while since I have been on here. I've been taking summer classes in the Boro, so I really haven't had much time to get on. I am not really sure on what Humboldt has coming back (besides, Campbell, Brookes, and Bryson), but I have heard that we have some good athletes coming up from the Junior High. Unless one of them is a big man, I don't see any of them starting over Quan and Antonio. Like I said, I have been in the Boro since January, so I have not had any time to go home and get some info. I'm sure someone will get on here and indulge us on some Viking Basketball!
  10. From a Memphis Tigers fan, I will be in the Murphy Center tonight supporting Joe Jackson! I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Pastner makes an appearance tonight, that way he can go ahead and sway Adonis Thomas a little be closer to joining Memphis in 2011
  11. Coaching. Coaching. Coaching. It comes down to the same thing every year. Scheduling can be a factor of it, but this year's Christmas Tournament had Dyer County and Bolivar in it. Obviously Humboldt got ran out of the gym against Dyer County, but they played a close game against White Station in Sub-State, so it's not like they were a pushover or anything. The refs let both teams play today, but IMO they let Westwood get away with more than they should have. I'm not blaming the game on the refs though. Humboldt got out hustled and out played. The 2-3 zone was working in the first half, but we came out in the 2nd half with a full court man. This allowed Westwood to get down the floor and score off of the 3 on 2 breaks. Yes, I know that #24 for Westwood got hot from behind the arc, but that wasn't until midway through the 3rd quarter. Also, Humboldt was very lazy getting up and down the court. There are more things that I could put on here about the coaching, but I do not want to bash him on the internet. This might be the first time that I was this disappointed in a Humboldt team at a State Tournament. Now that it is over.....Great season Vikings! You proved me and everyone else wrong that you could make it back to the State Tournament after so many seniors graduated. Congratulations on getting this far! Hopefully we'll be able to get back there next season with the returning players and the talent coming up from Jr. High. Also, congratulations to Westwood on the win. You out-played us and out-worked us every second of the 2nd half. Go bring back that gold ball to West TN!
  12. Joe Jackson and Andre Hollins (White Station) Chris Jones and Adonis Thomas (Melrose)
  13. Humboldt has great fans who travel across West TN to follow their Vikings. Each time we've been to state, Humboldt has filled up 1/3 to 1/2 of Murphy Center.
  14. Well, I figured I would get on here and throw in my two cents if it's worth anything lol. I have only seen Humboldt play once this year (college) and that was against Dyer Co. at the Christmas Tournament. I came away from that game thinking that Humboldt had no chance of getting back Sub-State/State. They have obviously proven me wrong (on the Sub-State part). I'm not going to go out and make a prediction, because like I said earlier, I have only been to one game. Hopefully I can find someone at home that is going to the game to keep me updated, or someone on here can listen to the radio and keep me updated that way. Humboldt vs. UC games have never failed to be great games, so hopefully it will still be a good one! Good luck to both teams...Go get'em Vikes!
  15. When has Humboldt ever done good in scrimmages and jamborees? lol...I remember my sophomore year (2005 season), we played South Side in a scrimmage at South Side and got beat 8-1. The next week, we had 10 hour practices of just tackling drills and hitting! It was the funnest week I ever had, and we got back on track and went on to an 8-2 season, but got put out in the first round of the playoffs. My senior we also didn't do well in the scrimmages, but came out and went 8-2 in the season, and finished 10-3 in the playoffs against Milan in OT. It's hard to determine things off of scrimmages. The '07-'08 Vikings played very well in the scrimmages and jamorbee, but went 4-6......You never know!
  16. nice try genius but i was standing right outside the murphy center and watched what happened
  17. We didn't even say anything to them when they came through talking! It's just not smart in their part period
  18. Really??? Does that call for you to run your mouth to a bunch of Humboldt fans while walking to the concession stand??? Seriously?! I was smart enough to not walk through a large crowd of an opponent's fanbase. It's just disrespectful.
  19. Agreed, if the Manassas players would not have came through running their mouths then nothing would've happened. To be honest, I'm surprised nothing started when they walked through the first time.
  20. Coaches first of all should be able to control their players also. Wasn't very smart on their part to come back out to the track where something crazy like this could happen. I've been all around that gym plenty of times and there are 5 exits down where the locker rooms are, and one of them leads directly out to the road where their bus was.
  21. I congratulated Manassas for winning. The game is over with now, what do you want to talk about from the game? It was a GREAT game. Couldn't ask for a better one. This is a big topic though simply because Buckner may not be playing Friday if he got arrested.
  22. Let me just go ahead and say congratulations to manassas on the win! Humboldt shot themselves in the foot with all of the missed free-throws, which I was hoping that wouldn't happen in this game. We took Buckner out of the game by playing a 2-3 and pressing. What a way to finish the game though! Good luck to yall in the rest of the tournament. Now for the incident that occurred after the game.... I AM a witness for everything that happened. First off, the Manassas players (not sure who it was, but the kids with the writing in their hair and buckner were the main ones) walked through the Humboldt crowd around the track clapping their hands and saying "We won, we're the best"..."Quit crying"..."We whooped yall's ***es." Totally uncalled for. They kept walking and went to one of the concession stands. The moms and friends of the Humboldt players followed the Manassas players and confronted them about it. That's the part I saw. The rest of this is from what I heard from many witnesses of the incident. The moms and friends walked over and told the manassas players that what they did was uncalled for. The Manassas players didn't pay any attention to what they were saying and one of the girls from Humboldt got too close to Buckner and confronted him about the incident. Buckner told her to shutup and walk off, which the girl didn't and kept getting closer and closer to him until buckner hit her in the face. I was outside of the building walking to class and saw Buckner and a bunch of the Manassas players being pushed outside by their fans and coaches. They were yelling and carrying on about what had just happened, and Buckner kept pounding his fist into his hand and running his mouth. The coach decided that it was best to go to the bus and all of the players and coaches took off. Policemen chased them down to the bus and that's all I saw. I don't have any updates on this incident, but that was very...very...very...uncalled for.
