  1. Well, who is your team? You don't say. As far as the War Eagles, the Grizzlies played them when they had Brandan Wright on the team, and lost by 1, 44-43, so saying their bench could win is dumb. But the War Eagles and highly recruited teams should beat a local team. The actual Grizzlies team has only felt they were the best of the local, unrecruited teams. That's why the Grizzlies (19-1) have great attitudes, a great coach, great parents, and that the other coaches and fans always compliment the Grizzlies. Team is basically the same as it was 4 years ago, loyal to players, loyal to coaches, good mix. Is your team like that or is it a revolving door with new kids always showing up? I know teams that in 4 years have gone through about 40 kids....so what's the point? We would like to set up a small tourney in Jackson with the Tigers, War Eagles, Big YMOC, and us. Good tune up for those teams going to nationals. The only time the current Grizzlies lost their cool was in a game where they lead by about 8 late in the third, then didn't get another call the rest of the game, and wound up losing. Noboby felt good about it, including the other coach. Grizzlies messed up that time, but it never happened before or again.
  2. One more thing, that's also why when those type of teams do lose, they usually figure they need to go out and find some bigger, faster, better pressure players, because apparently their guys aren't quite big and fast enough, as opposed to trying to improve on what they have. Funny how these coaches want to find bigger, better guys so the outcome is never in question, but if you put the kids in a gym with no adults, they would even up the teams and have great games.
  3. Don't get too caught up in the speed and pressure thing. Great size is hard to overcome, but good teams don't get too bothered by speed and pressure after 11 or 12 years old. The Grizzlies are never faster than their opponents, but they win. The Grizzlies always face pressure, and win. Consider, are the highschool championships and college championships simply won by the faster, best pressuring team? No. When two teams play which go as fast as they can all the time, the faster team usually wins. Those teams only know how to control tempo by speeding up. San Antonio and Detroit don't press and don't run all the time, and they're the best in the world. Maturity. A smart, strong, confident team that is well coached enjoys playing teams which are coached by guys yelling "go, go" "get him, get him"!
