For summer running, dont do a lot of speedwork. Get a good base of mileage. Start with somewhere b 10-20 miles a week and increase it by 10 or 15% a week, with cutbacks once every 5 weeks or so. This is what i did this summer and my times improved from 17:25(3rd in the region JV) to 16:11(2nd in the region Varsity)
