1. i closed it and i think somene deleted it all they was doing was bashing coaches and their picks and if it continues it will be closed again please talk about the team and the player but lets not get into bashing

Thanks RiverdaleMan. It's no wonder that the coaches do not want to post the roster or deal with any of the discontentment. This program is for the players, the coaches do not get paid, the coaches work with players that they do not know, and put time and effort into this. There have been several bashings, on the slections made, and it would not surprise me if the whole program was stopped due to the malcontents. Limbaugh responded last year with a rebuttle to this very topic, and in region 3/4 the evidence was clear that "daddyball" or "politics" did not play into the selection process. I will go a little farther by stating that of the 23 upperclassman selected, in 2007, from regions 3/4, 7 signed DI, 4 signed NAIA, 4 signed JUCO, 2 decided to play football, and 1 was tragically killed in an automobile accident. So, the process must have been sound because these players didn't become excellent players at the TBCA, they already were excellent. Steve Garland, from Soddy Daisey coached the 2007 region 3/4 team and is an outstanding human being. One players parents had to miss the entire game set at Vanderbuilt due to an out of state family illness, and Coach Garland made certain that the player knew how to get home, checked on his status, called to make certain that the player was OK, and made certain that the player was "looked after" while the parents were out of town. By the way, Coach Garland did not know this kid. If that is "daddyball", I wish that there were more Coach Garlands in this world.

  2. Don't know who Diamond Devil is, but he or she is wrong to imply politics had anything to do with Lebanon's disappointing season. Coach Messer was not treated fairly at LHS and that can be blamed on a few families, long since gone, and a lazy principal who'd rather succumb to parents than work with a young coach to let them know that what's usual and customary at one school may not be acceptable at another. That situation could have been handled much better for Coach Messer and LHS...but I suspect Coach Messer is much happier.

Bavarian: your words are so true. Lebanon Seniors: good job. You did what was asked of you, played hurt and sick, and the whole lot of you represented the team and community well, all three of you. There is not a doubt that you would be in the "parking lot or asphalt world series" if there were such a thing. Finishing with a winning record, on psuedo grass, is an accomplishment. I will Forrest Gump out of here by saying "Thats all I have to say about that."

  3. The Lebanon game featured a no hitter by Cody Ferrell and the invoking of a stupid rule giving him only 2 warmup pitches before an inning because the Lebanon catcher made the 3rd out and the backup catcher was in the bullpen. The ump said there's a 90 second limit. If true, this rule needs examining, because these are kids' arms we're talking about. That inning, 2 walks and 2 wild pitches allowed the White County run. This decision may have cost Cody a perfect game.

Reportedly, this is the same ump who called a Cookeville player out last year for stepping out of the batter's box between innings. IMHO, two stupid rules that do nothing to improve the game or add to its safety.

We all know what happened, and that is all that counts. Let's continue to keep the way it has been this year, and let the others speculate.

  4. QUOTE(mcdog33 @ May 9 2007 - 11:40 PM) 826456149what a great game tonight, very close. Could have gone eihter way, # 7 what is his deal pointing out the coookville players. he waited outside the gate looking at Cookeville bus. what did he think he could do standing there alone

And down goes Frazier! And down goes Frazier! Keep it going Cavs!!!!!!!!!!

  5. QUOTE(single7 @ May 2 2007 - 07:33 AM) 826449736I'm right their with you man,I'm thinking about hanging it up too, lets see what these coaches and so called fan umpires are going to do when they have no one to call the games or it gets to where they only have one ump calling they keep forgetting they can't play a legal game without us,but you know the bad thing about it is TSSAA doesn't back us either as far as having schools start on time and making sure we get paid when we do a job .I'm still calling and emailing 3 schools trying to get money from games I called 2 to 3 weeks ago, about that dumb coach I bet he has made some bad baseball decious this year that hurt his team ,but I forgot we has umpires are supposed to be perfect[duh] I would like to thank you for 15 years of busting your butt to call 3 sports and what it means to our profession to be able to stick around and have to listen to the crap we have too, good luck!!!!!

I echo this response, and say thanks to the umps that have stayed through the grind of a middle shcool baseball game, and hung in there when our pitchers were off, and the defense couldn't catch a cold during a four inning, 2 hour game. I noticed something during a recent game and I respected it after I figured out what was going on. I was calling pitches, from the bucket, during a middle school game, and I noticed the plate ump was checking my signals every time I gave one. I believe it was RiverdaleMan. I wondered why he was doing this, but it wasn't a big deal. I think that he was watching to see if the 12 year could throw the pitch called decently, and this was happening on both sides, so that the young men could learn, and pick up some confidence. I appreciated that.

  6. QUOTE(Stonewall @ May 2 2007 - 10:01 PM) 826450497My curiosity in beginning this thread was really more for the lack of local bragging than anything else. If D-B ever loses in football or in hoops, look out! CoachT will light up like a Christmas tree. I just found it odd that the Indians could be punctuating a rare year of total area dominance and no one is talking about it. As for the State thing, I think you have to be pretty close-minded to knock last year's squad. Sometimes the breaks just screw you and last year the Indians were really unfortunate. Otherwise it's reasonable to assume THEY would have been state champs rather than Farragut. Think about it; D-B won the District and the Region.....and their reward was for Farragut to sleepwalk against Karns and get upset. Science Hill's reward for getting their tail's kicked was to play Karns rather than Farragut....go figure! Unlike '04 and '05, D-B still almost got it done against a superb pitcher. That was the State Championship game right there. Runner's on 2nd and 3rd, two out, bottom of the seventh, and Farragut made one more play than we did. I tip my cap to them as I did then. But.....it was difficult enough for them to use that effort to catapult to a State Title. The Indians may not win it this year, but rest assured that they are the hateful fox around the hen house and you had better be pretty good to beat them.

The state championship, in 5A, most times in any sport, has to run straight through the MIDDLE. Lincoln County, Riverdale, Oakland, Gallatain, etc.

  7. QUOTE(walkoff_11 @ May 1 2007 - 10:30 AM) 826449040I would be proud of that Roane State signing since they are so good....... I saw where they finished 4-26 in conference WOWWWWWWW!!! They are a powerhouse on the rise with a GREAT coaching staff I reckon. Good luck to these young men as I am sure tey will get plaenty of baseball knowledge.

Let's see, .254 batting average, from the great MTCS, and career highlight against Watertown? You are bad to the bone if that is you.

  8. QUOTE(GoldGloveInLF @ Apr 4 2007 - 03:17 PM) 826429994And once again because apparently more than one person thinks the 8-2 lead squeeze was ridiculous. Lebanon came back against Hendersonville last week with 6 runs in the last inning. Now, lets do some math....When Riverdale squeezed 8-2 they were up by (8) - (2) = 6 Now last week against Lebanon came back from a 6 run defecit

    Squeeze 8-2=6

    Run defecit = 6

Call me crazy but those two are the SAME

All Riverdale was trying to do was make sure that the comeback did not happen to them. If they wanted to run up the score then believe me, they COULD have.

Your math was good and your thought process logical until the last sentence. No, your big boys did no damage late in the game. 6 K's in the last 4 innings. After the grand slam, a run on a passed ball, misplayed fly balls, and a bunt down the first base line to score one.

  9. QUOTE(tkeballer @ Apr 4 2007 - 10:12 AM) 826429661I totally agree. Good coaches willing to work with their kids sohould be allowed to do so in the summer. the elite scout teams play in the fall. If your son gets the opportunity to be apart of a truly elite summer team such as some East Cobb teams, Midland, us national then no coach is going to deprive a kid of that opportunity. but every little tema that pops up is not better than team structured development from a good high school coach.

As for my situation, BBC, I coach at a PUBLIC school of 450 students. My son is only 18months old so he is not ready to contribute just yet. 85% free and reduced lunch and all of my kids are my kids zoned for my school. I am in a place where people say you cannot win in baseball. My school had not won more than 2 games in 10years before I arrived. We are now a true contender in our classification, with a very good record and we start 5 sophs and 4 juniors. I have two juniors who will play NAIA, JC Baseball and all 5 sophs will play at the next level 2 have a chance of getting drafted. The ONLY differnce in my program is that I have gotten a tremendous effort from already great athletes in the summer and fall. My team resembles what most people in tennessee would say is a basketball or track team but they have accepted coaching and because EVERYONE down here plays high school summer ball they play against great competition. Yes the night Pat McMahon (HEAD COACH University of florida) sat and watch us plyed two draftable kids were on the mound, but that is the point I make Coach McMahon saw my whole team play not just one player. In your system all of my middle of the players would be on travel teams palying other middle of the road travel teams(so they can get seen). My young men played 11 innings in front of a man who was the head coach of the national runner up at the time what travel team can sya that.

I also agree true scout teams in the fall are a must in tennessee. right now tennessee kids are losing exposure every day.

BBC like i said not an attack on you. I just think tennessee needs radical change in the summer and i think people have to become more open to that. Being in Florida for 3 years now I can tell you tennessee coaches are working harder than there couterparts in fla and because of that alone tennessee is producing a better brand of baseball.

    That you Spurlock?

  10. QUOTE(riverdaleman @ Apr 4 2007 - 12:02 AM) 826429463This year he shook hands i think he might have been refferring to last year kinda like you was on that Riverdale fan who was upset because of our coach being WRONGFULLY ejected...but that is another story gone...

You are right you would think that 5 errors and it would be a close game or a loss and that is WAY out of the ordinary for us we have been playing REALLY good defense this year in fact i think this is one of the best OVERALL defenses we have had in a long time so to see 5 errors was like WOW...kinda proved my point earlier though how quick you can get 6 runs...

As far as the kid at second base...i did not see a tag but i saw the ball beat him by a mile and i saw an umpire right there looking at it in perfect postion and i saw our player apply the tag if he somehow got around it then that was a great play by that kid but it still doesnt excuse what he did...he very easly could have been ejected for that...but whe you are down by 6 why are you running anyway?

Lebanon is a good ball club and we have to play good to beat them and we will have to play better tomorrow night to beat them again your pitchers did a good job tonight the shortstop that came in to pitch did a real good job so things are looking up for yall good luck to you

    GO WARRIORS

These comments seem to come up every year after the Riverdale/Lebanon game. The Blue did come back and beat a good Hendersonville team the other night, same M/O as last night, same pitching change, and same basic line up that finished against Riverdale. The difference in the two games was that against Hendersonville The Blue fought hard, remained focused, and finished hard, and against Riverdale, The Blue seemed to loose some steam after the grand slam in the third inning. This is not to take anything away from Riverdale.

The 5 errors given to Riverdale may be generous just as the two errors for Lebanon was generous. On Lebanon's side, there was a missed throw down off the top of a glove, a missed third strike, a bobble on the squeeze, and a couple of misplayed fly balls.

A previous post was correct in stating that this is high school baseball and no lead is safe. Lebanon aspires to win, and to win consistently, Lebanon must overcome the mental mistakes, gain confidence and poise, and develop a will to win in a tough manner. Again, the difference between the Hendersonville and Riverdale game was due to these aspects. This will come with age and matruity. Again, not to take anything away from Riverdale, as this poise and confidence allowed them to overcome the 5 errors and more than a few K's at the plate.

Coach Powers controls the game. He works for every call, every strike or ball, every out, and constantly communicates with each player concerning things right and wrong. Each person observing his actions may call this as they see it. It is, just what it is, and it works for him. Not condoning or ridiculing Coach Powers' actions.

Lebanon will get better, and good luck Blue. Looking forward to hard fought game tonight, weather permitting, between Lebanon and Riverdale.

  11. The schools that these students attended did not offer football to these students. The private school saw this as an opportunity to approach these students to play for their football team. The students in question were not in high school at the time, yet some are players on the private school's team in which they are now enrolled.

TSSAA may be aware of the issue.

Is there anyone outside of this private school that knows of the situation?

If you are speaking of the 5th-6th grade football team operated at a private school in Lebanon, then yes, most people are familiar with the situation.

  12. Riverdale will need to get extremely lucky to beat Franklin..if they werent in such an easy district they would not be in state.

Go ahead and schedule a few of us next year and taste it for yourself. I normally don't pull for Riverdale, but go ahead and win it for 7-AAA.

  13. barney showin sum serious skilllz.

540 on squat? can any region 4 school top that?

or the 7 ova 300 on bench?

    speak now.

ohs may b the strongest school in tha region.

Lebanon will be strong again, same as last year and years to come. Last year a Freshman from TXR came in cleaning 275.

  14. One last cry out for help. Can anyone from these schools tell us how they did and WHO they played. Many of the other teams have posted how they did. Just want to know how TN stacked up against other states. If I could get the results and the teams played I could post our state's results vs other states' teams.

Also if anyone knows of any other games played between our boys vs some other states let us know.

I know that Friendship was run ruled by West End High School Alabama, but I'm not certain about the other games. They only list having played one game and that is not the game listed.

  15. is this thread serious? east couldnt hit sycamores #3 pitcher so how in the world are they going to hit minor? u guys r playing good ball right now but minor is an all american. im calling a no hitter.

Forrest is a very good team, but Minor and/or Skelley do not, by themselves, equal a sure win. The proof of that is Lebanon 9 Forrest 2 in the WC tourn. Fanchier, Sophomore pitched for Lebanon against Skelley from Forrest.

Good luck to all of you guys. Play hard, all of you deserve to be where you are!!

  16. Lebanon Blue Devils

    Ben Spurlock C

    David Layne 1B

    Kyle Blalock 2B

    Shayne Martin SS

    Daniel Conrad P

    Brent Clark P

These seniors got Lebanon baseball going back in the right direction. 19 wins and 2 in the torney is something Lebanon has not done in a while, and these players all heavily contributed. These players have the foundation laid for the underclassmen to achieve even greater things. All of the players are very classy and set a pretty good example for the younger ones. Congrats on a very solid season and high school careers.

A class group of young men that will go very far in life. Each one of these young men exhibit honesty, loyalty, dedication, toughness, and integrity both on and off the field. Lebanon can be very proud to have been represented by these young men during the basball season, and look forward to their accomplishments within the community in the future.

  17. Who do you think has the best power and ability to hit?

I can't say about the rest of the state but; the two best hitters in district 7-AAA are #10, Blackman's third baseman, and the Burnett guy from Oakland.

  18. Lebanon has a pair of sophs that are both legit. Garrett Fanchier, a righty and Cody Ferrell, a lefty. They should both be on display Tuesday at Blackman.

    I agree. Ferrell & Fanchier-the F-Troop.

    Go Blue Devils!

  19. Lebanon will be pitching a transfer foreign exchange student that plans to go to Cumberland after Lebanon High School. He's a lights out lefty and hits bombs. Just got all the paper work done today. So today will be his debut in the States. Go Blue Devils!

This was straight from the bluecaptain! Ha! Ha!

Good luck to both teams tonight!

    Slingblade;

I let the cat out of the bag yesterday. I've been resisting the temptation all day today, but since you have mentioned our tonight's starter already...... He will be an added addition to the staff after having completed a tour in Iraq; fed homeless children in Mogaishu; and led an expedition in search of D.B. Cooper. I'm not sure that Cumberland can land him though; word is he is leaning towards an offer to become the front man for Bachman Turner Overdrive revival.

Go BLUE!!!!!!!!!! Earn it tonight guys. Best of luck to both teams.
